Searing Dragons Force Commander - ++WIP++

Recommended Posts

++ UPDATE++ May 23/06

New Shots:

Commander - Shield Side

Commander - Rear

Commander - Front

Commander - Hammer Side

That's it..bash it some more...I dunno if I should keep that Imperial Eagle on the shield, I might fiddle around with the back arms on the rear if possible, I'll see, it'll take some cutting and repainting.

Seems like the Archaon models are peoples favourites for converting!

Looks very nice, like the continuation of the split theme that I saw on the Predator.

Perhaps add some more detail/interest on the eagles on the backpack, seem rather bland poking out the top of the model.

i gotta give you an honest criticism here, i think youhave too much going on on the back and shoulders... you have eagle heads on the backpack, dragon scale on the shoulders, and then a wolf pelt hanging down the back. birds dogs and lizards all over that area... i think it would be a really good idea to replace the eagle heads with chaos weapon nozzles to get a dragon look, then putty over the wolf pelt with more dragon scales to keep the same feeling.

overall it looks pretty cool but i just find that particular area a little all over the place.

good luck!

***i have to agree, its a themed model that seems to have an abundance of themes...i really dont like the wolf pelt-lizard pelt? i think it needs change to look right

i also dont like the backpack, the model is bigger so why wouldnt the backpack? it just looks so tiny right now, and the eagle heads do NOT in my opinion suit the model whatsoever...if they were dragon heads then MAYBE

i liked the rest of your stuff, and the painting is interesting

Starks

One thing to answer...there is NO wolf pelt on it....it's ALL dragon scale. I left the claws on cuz Dragons also have claws  IF you looked at it properly...I can easily agree with the backpack part...you have to remember this is the imperium no matter what chapter the eagle head WILL show up. I'll remove the backpack and change it but some of you have to look closer before jumping the gun on comments.. make sure next time ;)

im not trying to antagonize you or start a flame war, but i looked again, and to me, thats fur texture on his back, not scales at all. obviously a few peeps agreed with as to the nature of the texture.

as to the eagles, thats for codex chapters specifically, its kinda optionals on the marines who sit in back of the class. salamanders? space wolves? given your textured colorscheme and armor style youve already broken a bit with codex markings so i just figured dragonheads on the backpack wouldnt be much of a stretch...

again, it wasnt meant to upset you or put you down, just giving an honest crit on how to improve a good model, you want to put it in a comp so im just rootin for you and trying to help. if you disagree thats ok it was only advice, taken or left as you see fit.

good luck with the mini no matter what!

Actually, I whipped out my GD04 Archaon model to try and end this. There is definatley scales on Sunburner's models back, compared to the (bear?) manlte on Archaon. You need to look very close to see it. It looks to me like in one of the folds of the pelt, it is missing some scales, but that might be eye tricks. I think the way Sunburner highlights combined with the slight-fuzz camera shot makes it seem like its all fur. I can say with confidence though, it is mostly scales. Just look closer.

What threw me off at first (because I thought it was an animal pelt also before closer examination), was the claws on the pelt. The arms usually slim down to where the hands/paws/claws meet on lizards. I think you should really shave the arms down a bit, at least near the wrists, and then scale over them. Might help a bit.
