Need some color advice...

Recommended Posts

OK, I started working on one of my Immolators last weekend, and tried to paint the iconography as stone slabs mounted on the doors (as the FW doors show cracks like you'll likely only find in stone). However, I'm not that happy with the result, so I would appreciate the advice you guys have to offer.

Here's the Immolator at the moment. The black will stay black, the pink will stay pink. I will add some details but this will be the main color scheme:

As for the iconography, this is what I have at the moment:

Maybe I'll paint the circle with the letters in it in gold, but I'm not sure what to paint the fleur-de-lis in. Maybe a dark green marble. Or an ochre color to tie in with the gold?

Anyway, what do you guys think? I'm prepared to restart the white if something promissing presents itself, so all input is welcome.

P.S.: this is the color scheme of my Sisters, I'm looking for something that ties in with it...

Your marble effect looks really good. I wouldn't paint the letters gold. Maybe do the Fleur in white marble too like it's all carved from one piece. If you don't like how it looks when it's done, then glaze it up to green or pink ;)

I agree with Ahmato's idea about the worn out gold SOMEWHERE on the panel. I think it would go very well with the lettering. However, that depends what color you paint the fleur in.

The pink marble is a nice idea, although i expect there will be ALOT of mixing involved ^_^ However, it would suit very well with the existing color scheme for sure.

Im also still quite envious of your painting abilities, but ill get over that one day ;)

I'm going to echo Q's idea, as it makes the most sense - make the entire icon one color. Keep the white marble throughout. You could pick out the lettering in another color if you really want - but the Fleur itself should be the same as the ring, I think.

The white marble looks good so far - but I'd suggest a couple of needle-thin veins running through it as well.

I like your color scheme - but keep in mind that you shouldn't ever really have more than 3 colors. So with the black, pink, and white... you're done. If you were to add in a fourth - did someone actually say green? - then the model gets too busy. For some reason, our eyes like threes. Three (main) colors, applied in three places...

did someone actually say green?

* takes one step back, starts whistling and looking innocent, tries to blend into the crowd *

I'm going to try an all white icon, without the gold text. If I'm not happy, I'll give it some light pink glazes to reach a light pink marble.

too be perfectly honest, I didnt think you were that far off with the marble technique (looks great to me, then again i couldnt paint marble to save my life). So Id say stick with what you have as it looks great already, however the subtle pink marble would be good as well
