Wow, great article you have a really solid writing style. I particularily liked how you tied them to the inquisition as i've seen others do this but never as well as you've accomplished it. Recruitment is also nifty managing to have them live on a pretty much dead world i was wondering how you'd handle it.

Modeling wise, they are just plain beautiful love the chapter symbol. Good color scheme and conversions that reflect the fluff, sgt Pallas is my favourite. This is a perfect example of how to pull of a good DIY chapter that impacts all areas of the hobby.

I'm in the process of writing my own Hashut renegade chapters fluff, with your scions ties to the inquisition and their crusade against excommunicae chapters i was wondering if you would mind their inclusion?

Sorry but I found this through your sig and had to dig it up.

Firstly wow what a well thought out and amazing IA. I enjoyed the way it was weaved together, it makes sense to me now how you can write such amazing stories for the Aod.

Second I have one question..

Needless to say the Inquisition is dismissive and uncharacteristically unforthcoming on the subject, a fact which only further fuels the mystery.

If I interpret this right, this sentence is saying the Inquisition is characteristically forthcoming with information, however not on this particular subject. Huh?

Since when the the inq tell you anything?

*thinks* Or is this form the Scions point of view?

Anyway great IA.

Hehe, I have been so focussed on the AoD I missed this being returned from the depths. Glad you liked it.

@Yogi - to clarify what that line meant, the Mycenae Inquisition won't reveal any info about the planet when anyome foolish enough to do so asks about it. The Inquisition is the one who asks the questions, usually while holding red hot pokers and the like! :)

On the subject of the Crusade for Antioc AoD, Captain Golgotha of the Legio started out life as a Scion, and there are five (Five!) companies of Scions along to make sure they finally wipe out the Order Encarmine renegades that have taken up residence on the corrupted Forgeworld. The AoD will affect the history of the chapter. :o

Forgive the threadomancy, but I have taken the opportunity to use the flashy new BBCode tools to revamp the article in my original post.

I have been approached by the Codiciers about putting the IA in the Librarium so anything that people can suggest to hone it further before I contact them would be greatly appreciated.

Well, Honoured Valerius dates back to the old codex when twin-linked heavy bolter / Missile launcher was still a valid option. ;) (My lovingly converted lasplas razorback similarly got nerfed when the new codex was released. :teehee: )

Nowadays it depends on the opponent; if they don't mind using the Imperial Armour 2 rules Valerius can keep his heavy bolters, but if they have concerns then they can 'count-as' an assault cannon under the new codex... which is probably scarier anyway.

Ah. I'm probably gonna do that soon too. I'm getting 2 heavy bolters in the mail sometime soon, and I don't like the assault cannon.. It's far too puny for a dread.

Thanks, SCC.

As well as using the new BB codes to add in the sidebars and banner headers, I also included a selection of pictures of Scions miniatures to add colour to the article. My favourite new addition is the picture of Mycenae, the homeworld, that Rogue Trader did for me, and the accompanying text follows the format used in GW IA's and codexes. Thanks, mate.

In honour of the release of the mk. 2 veterans, I managed to finish my veteran squad mainly converted from the mk. 1 miniatures.

Oooh! New Scions!

Lovely work as usual Aurelius, I'm particularly enchanted with the checks on the knees, they're beautifully done, much better than my DA ones B)

Have you changed the white recipe or is it the photos making that nice, cold blue a little more obvious?

Apocalypse has got me working on the heavy support elements of my Scions of Dorn, with three vindicators and the Suppression force heading my way this Christmas, and so in preparation I have been working on a predator to get my eye in. I normally use a green ink wash on the Scions, and while this is actually really quite subtle in real life, it always gives a harsh shine when I try to photograph the beggers. This leads to comments of using testers dullcote, but instead I have tried to take a different tack completely and see if I can get the desired effect without the 'cruch' of an ink wash to cover up my blending shortcomings. I tried something similar with my Call of Chaos contest entry, although that was red... It is time to try it out with my beloved Scions green!

So below is my first try at it: A Predator Destructor tooled up for maximum anti-horde firepower. It is attached to the second company, hence the quartered red and white shield heraldry on the front. The weapon cowlings are white, as they are for the weapons of the Scion battle-brothers.

I hope the experiment has worked. What do you think?

For the last month I have been working away at the Supression Force I got for Christmas, and at last it is ready. My Scions of Dorn have now got some Apocalyptic reinforcements.

Supression Force Berassus, Seventh Company, Scions of Dorn

Supression Force Berassus, led by Veteran Sergeant Berassus, is part of the Seventh Tactical Reserve Company, and is composed of a spotter landspeeder piloted by Berassus himself, which relays precise coordinates for bombardment to the whirlwinds, Reign of Fire and Aegis. Over the last decade the Scions have been heavily committed, with the , the Defence of Cadia, the crusade to reclaim the forgeworld of Antioc, the predations of Hive-Fleet Leviathan, and the Drakken Crusade on Blackwater alongside their Crimson Fist brothers. Whilst this has tempered the chapter, there have also been inevitable casualties. With many squads sent to replace losses in the battle companies, the Seventh Company has been reduced to half-strength, many of which were freshly elevated from the Scout Company.

To address this, and to increase the company's offensive capability, Ossopharys negociated with the Chapter Forges to swap or retro-fit six of his rhinos for whirlwinds for the forseeable future. He also directed his best landspeeder pilots to follow the example of the Storm Raven Supression Forces, to rain down precision munitions upon the enemy from afar. This tactic has proved highly successful, and the Seventh has been able to continue to support its brothers despite its lack of numbers.

Landspeeder Berassus

Leader of the Supression Force, Veteran Sergeant Berassus, is pilot of the spotter landspeeder. I gave him the white helmet of a veteran, and like my recent Predator, have moved away from using green ink so the shiny effect is gone! Gunners who have worked alongside Berassus are expected to be focussed solely on identifying targets and relaying coordinates back to their whirlwinds; the heavy bolter would only attract unwanted attention and distract from the real objective, they are told. On the recent Drakken Crusade against the greenskins, in less than half of Berassus' sorties the heavy bolter remained unfired, yet the overall devastation caused was impressive.

The black and red striped triangle on the back of the 'Speeder is the insignia for the Supression Force as a whole, and is repeated on the whirlwinds. It is made from plasticard and a skull from an Empire shield boss. The sensor array is from the Apocalypse sprue.

Whirlwind 'Reign of Fire'

After seeing the Forgeworld Whirlwind I felt that the GW version was really missing out with not having a turret sensor array of some sort, so I converted some using the vindicator shell winch housing, sprue, plasticard and bits from the Apocalypse command sprue. I also wanted to have a crewman coming out of a hatch, and found that the rear-hinged one looked perfect as it wouldn't get in the way of the sensor. I gave the crewman the look of someone who has just got the coordinates for the bombardment, and is just bringing his finger down on the big red 'fire' button! :P

Whirlwind 'Aegis'

'Aegis' was given a more worn appearance, with plenty of purity seals. The Scions would be very fastidious about keeping their vehicles, equipment and armour spotlessly clean, and the machine spirit tended with a fresh coat of paint, but I added some battle damage and wear to the paintwork in this case. I think that while 'Reign of Fire' has just been reconsecrated and valeted, 'Aegis' is an older machine that has been through the inferno many a time, and has picked up the battle honours to prove it. ;)

Next on the list are a squad of sniper / bolter scouts... but until then, I hope you liked the Supression Force.

A very detailed history of the Chapter, and some brilliant models, I especially like Honoured Valerius, the Dreadnought.

Although I quite agree, it is generally considered bad form to dredge up two year old topics. Unless (maybe) you are the originator.

I think that Commander Skaav was posting this after commenting on my two scout squads that I posted up in PC&A of late, which reminds me - I should either post them here as well as the thread was serving as a Scions gallery, or alternatively put them in the 'Rise of the Tenth Company' dedicated Scouts thread that I have been working on. Because of this the thread was last updated at the end of January '08, so as cases of threadomancy go, it was not too bad.

In any case, nice to see Honoured Valerius getting a nod. :HQ:

I have posted this in its own thread in PCA Hall of Honour, but wanted to add it to the master-IA:Scions of Dorn thread as well for neatness. If only to show that I don't just do Dornian Heresy stuff, and still remember my own DIY chapter. :P

Earlier this summer I was working on a Rhino chassis to transport about one of my Scions of Dorn first company squads, and decided to convert up a couple of Razorback turrets for it... and then went for a predator setup while I was at it. It is supposed to represent the evolution of a Rhino from the first time it was supplied to the First Company, through the decades to when it was fitted with a variety of Razorback turrets to add firepower after the squad it is transporting lost a few members, right through to its rebuilding and reconsecration as a Predator after its near-destruction when it sacrificed itself to save the squad it had sworn to protect.

First up is Dominar in its Rhino form. The detailing on the front tread guards are made from plasticard - the veteran cross and the shield with red and white checks representing its inclusion in the first company... the checks being a simplified form of the first company captain's personal heraldry.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v732/AureliusRex/Scions%20of%20Dorn/Troops/Dominar/DominarRhino2.jpg

Then upgraded to the Stronos, or 'Lasplas' Razorback form. This is a relatively simple conversion from the TLLC kit, with the plasmaguns replacing one of the lascannons. It is inspired by an incredibly impressive Imperial Fist Stronos that graced this board some time in the last year IIRC. Sorry, but I have forgotten the name of the person who posted it. All of my Scions Razorbacks have the same larger gunshield which leaves more room for the winged marine helm insignia:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v732/AureliusRex/Scions%20of%20Dorn/Troops/Dominar/DominarStronosBeta2.jpg

The turret above was a lot easier to convert than the much more complex version I created a few years ago! Here it is bolted onto the same chassis for comparison. Personally I like both styles. :)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v732/AureliusRex/Scions%20of%20Dorn/Troops/Dominar/DominarStronosAlpha.jpg

And a twin linked Assault Cannon turret kitbashed pretty simply from HB razor turret and the assault cannon barrels from the new plastic Baal Predator I hacked up:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v732/AureliusRex/Scions%20of%20Dorn/Troops/Dominar/DominarTLACRazorback.jpg

This is what I used the rest of the new Baal Predator bitz for... the new sponsons are a lot less fragile too!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v732/AureliusRex/Scions%20of%20Dorn/Heavy%20Support/DominarPredator2.jpg

Now that I see the pics, I can spot all manner of little niggles... most of all the lack of weathering and paint chips. That's going to bug me until I fix that now! B)

Hope you like them...

Regards,

Aurelius.
