  1. "In the name of the Emperor and Lord Commander , I Commander Mordian Glory of the Mordian 50th Rifles, shall raise a Lord Commissar by 28th February." Just a small pledge from me, I have a whole Bolt Action army I am working on already! xD

  3. I didn't realize there was a hobby event at the moment, I will certainly vow something for it! Its classic metal Mordians for a while now, already got the next batch in the dettol bath whilst I finish off this platoon :) Thanks Jud! I was catching up on your thread last night and I love how your Krieger's are progressing :D
  4. Hope everyone had a great New Year and Christmas! Mine was very busy, but despite all the festivities I was able to get a decent amount of painting done. I am happy to report that all of the riflemen for the platoon are now finished :) Now to move on to the Sgts, Special Weapons and Heavy Weapons... the long painting war continues...
  5. Quick update, I have started work on the 3rd Platoon of the 2nd company. When this platoon is finished I will have 6 full platoons across 2 companies 100% completed :) Just 1 more company to go! So far I have finished 10 riflemen and I have another 9 well on the way. As always pics below:
  6. New bodyguard rule is like super Look Out Sir. You cannot target an enemy character (with 9 wounds or less) with ranged attacks whilst they are within range of a body guard unit. Even if there is only 1 model left in the bodyguard unit. Even if the character is in front of the bodyguard unit. Even if the character is out in the open but the bodyguard is totally out of line of sight. Its an absolutely horrible rule that gets abused a lot. There is a whole Dark Angels list built around 2-3 un-targetable Talon masters that stand out in the open firing away and you cant do anything about it because of the bodyguards. However, its out now and several factions have it and abuse, so Guard should also get access to it.
  7. Indeed! I really like that style of game where it feels you manage to pull it back despite the odds, it just seems very Guard-like :)
  8. Thank you! I used the new Cadian rules from the Octarius Supplement, and I found them to be really good. I used the Load-Fire-Reload strat every turn and the extra exploding sixes made a big difference. I also was allowed to use the new update from the Balance Patch, and I can say with great confidence that 2+ save Leman Russ Tanks are fantastic. Every single game I was making saves that pre balance patch I would have failed. The ol' Russ feels much tougher now. Over the 2 events I faced Thousand Sons, Nid Hive Guard Spam (twice) Death Guard, Dark Eldar, Grey Knights, Sisters and Iron Warriors. Both events I would describe as "shark tanks". Really high skilled, sometime famous, players who had very strong lists. Out of the 80+ players over both events, I was probably 1 of 4-5 people running a low tier army, at least via conventional internet wisdom. My list was very slightly different between the events, but I have included the version I took to the second one. It incorporates some lessons learned from the first tournament and overall I feel it performed better :) The list played in a very classic Guard style, it held the line for the first couple of turns and absorbed the charges. Then when the enemy was committed the big guns blew them to pieces and I would then start pushing out turns 3 onwards. Nearly every game, I would take significant causalities turns 1 and 2 and would be behind on points, but then in the later rounds I would effect a come back and catch up and overtake my opponents points. The firepower of the list was incredible, way higher then I expected. In every game I played I easily did more damage then my opponents. Often once the dust had settle I would still have 600-800+ points of my army left and my enemy would have a single squad or a few scraps hiding in terrain. In one game, I went first against the new Hive Guard spam and killed so much my opponent conceded turn 1, I didn't take a single casualty. However, A big weakness of the list was the lack of early turn aggression. If I took too long to clear the enemy in the early turns, I would struggle to pick up the points late game. Every game I lost was because it took until T4 to start the come back and opponent was able to keep me pinned back for too long. Sorry for the wall of text, hope that all makes sense!
  9. Another month in service of our glorious Emperor has passed! Painting progress has been good, I have completed 2 Manticores and a metal Lord Creed. The Manticores are a new addition to force but the Creed model has been in my collection for 17 years! The old man has been leading my Mordians for almost 2 decades and it feels so good to have him back in command of the 50th Rifles I know Creed is a Cadian officer, so I normally run him as Colonel Meed, Creeds Mordian Cousin! He fits in really well with the rest of my army thanks to the big greatcoat and the grumpy face. I have also been hard at work on the frontlines, fighting the enemies of the Emperor. I attended 2 tournaments this month, a 2 dayer and a 1 dayer. Despite every battle being against top meta armies and players, the 50th did the Emperor proud and they prevailed in 5 out 8 games That is all for this week, pictures below as always! 10. Greetings Commanders, There has been a little progress made on the restoration project, 2 new officers and a infantry squad have joined the ranks. Its not as much as I would have liked, but I have been playing lots of games with my Guard so hopefully the Emperor will forgive me! With these models completed, I have actually finished the 2nd platoon of the 2nd company (5th platoon overall) of the regiment. This means I am just 1 platoon away from having another full company for the regiment I have the next platoon already stripped, repaired and base coated as well, so it shouldn't be too long until the second company is complete As always, pictures below:
  11. Just had my second game with the new Black Tide, really trying to get a sense of power from the new Primaris blobs. 1 combo which I have used a couple of times times now is this: 20 man blob with all Chainswords. Helbrect aura of strength and chapter master rerolls Crusader helm for assault doctrine Grimaldus does +1 attack litany and vow that does auto wounds on 6s On the charge you get roughly 100x str5 ap - 2 attacks with full rerolls to hit and some auto wounds. And it absolutely blends! Massacred my way through both Dark Eldar and Craftworlds now. Best bit, doesn't even require CP, its just buffs from characters and relics.
  12. I had a 2k practice game with the new Templars vs Dark Eldar. My opponent had a decent wych cult list with 3 big units jetbikes, characters including drazhar and a core of wyches in raiders. I took 5 big blobs of primaris crusaders (4x 20 and 1x15) all with just swords and pistols, Helbrect and Grimaldus. I wanted to really stress test the new crusaders and see how well it paired with 5++ vow. The end result, the Templars absolutely massacred the Drukari. All the dark lances, blasters and heat lances basically bounced. They got the drop on me T2 and killed about 40 crusaders with an all in army charge. In my counter attack I basically wiped them out apart from scattered survivors. What stood out was just how durable the blobs were. Mini transhuman, 5++ and a 6+++ from Grimaldus was great. And in combat they were lethal, I was able to put 3 almost intact blobs in assault doctrine turn 2 thanks to the Helm, the strat from the main codex and the litany that puts you in an extra vow. This meant each blob was putting out about 60 str5 ap-2 attacks with full rerolls to hit (either litany of hate or chapter master rerolls) Genuinely think primaris black tide is lethal.
  13. I have been using LL Scions as my go to competitive guard army for last 6 months and I have managed to get a solid 60-66%% win rate with them. At the last GT event I went to I went 3-1-1, beating Admech, drawing against Drukari. The key is to have the Dakka Taurox's do the anti horde and the Scion Squads kill the big stuff. I can confidently say that they are one of the top 3 competitive guard builds at the moment.
  14. *blows dust of thread* Wow where did the last 6 months go! Ever since the UK lockdown has ended I have been going to lots of tournaments and events. Whilst its been great fun, it has sucked away time from painting my Mordians But I haven't stopped painting entirely, in fact I actually got a full Scion task force painted and have been using it as my go to competitive army. But recently I have been getting the strong itch to start up the Great Restoration Project again and so I present to my fellow commanders the models I have managed to complete over the last few weeks . Hopefully, I can return to regular updates of this thread (although with Black Templars on the horizon it might be hard!) As is tradition, please see pics below in the spoiler: Heavy Bolter Squad 1 Priest: Heavy Bolter Squad 2:
  15. I also have a quick question! Can I use the oaths of honour strat on a unit of scout bikes because they have the Scout keyword or do I need to do it on an actual Scout unit?
