  1. I think a good question to GW is, have your properly tested this unit or will a FAQ be out soon after release where it gets changed?
  2. From my understanding via Goonhammer, all Plague Marine weapons are now free. That’s a huge plus if true.
  3. So how does Rotwind interact with the new armor of contempt rule? Rotwind effects an enemy unit while armor of contempt says if this unit is under the effect…
  4. Good stuff in there, I like it. I am not sure you can take 2 combi-meltas without first having every other combi type. Have you thought about Revolting Resilient for your DP, most of the time I would assume he won’t be targetable (body guard rule) except spells. Having a 5+++ vs MWs might benefit him more. The combo with the Blightlords and rerolling is nice, wish they had some AP to go with all those shots. You will have to let us know how it does.
  5. After playing against Nids today and them either having a 5+++ or -1 damage and in some cases both, we are definitely not as “durable” as other armies. It seems like every other army gets what was our thing. Then the only way to get real fire power is using FW stuff, we really are not in a good spot. Not to be a Debbie downer, but we need a lot to make us competitive in todays meta and while these suggestions are good, it’s not going to happen.
  6. My most recent game against Necrons I destroyed a unit of 6 destroyers in the shooting phase with a Contemptor w/beamers and missile launcher and a unit of 5 in melee with 5 Deathshroud. The Beamer backed up to be at 48”+ and I was hitting on 2’s re-rolling 1’s w/exploding 6’s. So it was 6 shots and got 2 more, wounding on 2’s with -3AP D4 killing 5 and the 2 missile shots took out the last 1. Charged the other unit with the 5 Deathshroud and the 42 attacks mulched them to nothingness. It’s possible with the right units to remove them, just don’t let them get to your soft targets.

If you were building a competitive list in the current meta, what units or combos or what evers do you think a Death Guard army needs to or should include and why (if you don’t mind sharing your thoughts on it)? I think we need fast durable units like drones and possessed to grab objectives and reliable high damage output units like Contemptors to clear stuff off objectives. I have been trying out conversion beamers on mine (with Tallyman nearby) and they do OK, especially against terminators. PBCs are not as reliable in my games, even when running three of them. I also like Poxwalkers because of their T4 and can bring some back as long as any are left.
  8. If I only run one, I use Miasma and Gift of Plagues. I usually run Inexorable and like getting enemies within Ferric Blight. Then Miasma is always nice to have. If I run a second caster, that one I will run more offensively with Curse and then maybe Plague Wind or Gift of Contagion. Those two are situational and more often then not it’s Curse and Smite being cast. He is decent in combat, but having an invul save would really be nice. One game I had a few extra points so I gave him Acidic Malady and while in Ferric Blight he had 4 S8, -3AP, Dd3 attacks. It was just enough to finish off a unit Necrons thanks to my Blightspawn keeping them from attacking first. It’s no game winning combo and probably a waste of points, it just happened to do something the one time I tried it. These guys are almost always an auto include due to the fact we can’t run multiple lords in a detachment.

  10. Well my gaming group says they will not be buying the new CA and that I can continue to use the old points for my army. Now my list only went up 25 points, which isn’t too bad, but they said they raised points that they shouldn’t have and didn’t lower points where they were needed. And I play with 2 top 10 players from LVO (1 a top 5 player) both who have said they won’t do any more tournaments till they (GW) gets their poop together. The one is still going to LVO cuz he’s already got his ticket (for free) and I understand that. GW is just too slow to make good adjustments and this looks like a money grab to them. So I will continue to enjoy games, but I also won’t be giving them any more money till they figure this all out.
  11. I run a Lord and a Tallyman near my three Contemptors, he’s a cheap HQ that lets them re-roll ones to hit. Between him and my Tallyman I get great value out of them and so him. 32 shots hitting on 3’s and 16 hitting on 2’s, all re-rolling 1’s while 6’s do extra hits is a lot of dakka. Edit: plus the missiles.
  12. I like it, even if there is no discount. It will fill out my PBCs, DS, and PMs, and having 3 MBHs is something I’ve wanted since I sold mine off. Plus I don’t have that champion or bearer, not that I need them, but I think those are the last of the models I didn’t have.
  13. A counter, not a good one, but they only score if you have a psycher alive if I am correct? Is put your psycher up front to take the damage, so if they kill him they score nothing, then you CoF the unit behind him. Leaving them with either kill their 15 points turn one or let you live. So put your DP out there and see what happens, but build around him not being there.
  14. So, are we in a better spot with these new rules or do you think nothing has changed? We got neither buffs nor nerfs, which makes me think “they” think we are balanced. Honestly I struggled most against Sisters and nothing changed on that front. They just had so many MCUs running around it is hard for me to clear them all out. I haven’t played against AdMech, but it looks like we are in a better spot with them. Dark Eldar I never had a problem against nor marines. So thoughts?
  15. I run him with Revolting Stench-vats and Viscous Death, then I either put him in a drill with 10 plague marines or he walks up the board with some Deathshroud. Depending on what other characters I plan on running, I may also put arch-contaminator on him. He gets d6 (re-rollable) shots at S8, -3AP, and 2D. I am usually running the extra AP contagion or Mortarions Anvil for the pile in strat. If it’s MA and he isn’t at risk of getting wounded by psychic spells, I position him in a way that he is the closest target to be charged and I will be able to pile in with my DS. This way I get to overwatch with him, make whatever charged in fight last, and let the DS finish them off. And let’s be honest, no one who knows this will charge him. So you make the DS -1 to be hit and they go wherever you want. You can also use the +6” range strat so he can hit targets at 18”, his weapon is also assault, making his range 23-29”. Very easy to cripple most vehicles and nice when you catch a character out of position or have shot their screen away with something else beforehand. He’s an auto include for me.
