  1. So here is the first model fully done (well almost I need to finish base trim and add some grass tuffs and decal to shoulder. I think I am content with how he turned out. I am going for a speed painted army scheme, mostly just contrast for the red, and quick layer highlight and wash for all other areas. The flesh especially the demonic mutating flesh and flames will take me the longest. I am not completely thrilled with the neon green of the eyes so I may pick up a green wash and see if I like that better. Got to work on the green glow. I was debating on going for green flames are normal orange flames but after the eyes. I may end up with orange flames anyways. My plan for the flesh of the few models with flesh is likely purple flesh, since the Impurity seals on the demon prince will also be purple. I know most go with green optics but I’ve seen a few with orange and blue. Might just go with orange/yellow for eyes instead of the new Tesseract glow. Need something with more pop. Anyways since I have so much back log in my pile of shame and my imperial fists take up way more time painting, this is just a side army and I wanted to just get it painted and battle ready fairly quickly nothing fancy. More models to come soon as I get those decals found and grass tuff picked up later this week.

    Word Bearers

A chaos army slowly worked on
  3. Thanks guys. yeah i could do that removing the power nodes to the sword. Something I will think about. As for it growing, well I currently have the models for 2 five man squads of marines, a 10 man squad of marines, 10 berzerkers converted from the plastic kit and blood warrior helmets, then the Master of Possession, the 2 greater possessed guys, 2 obliterators, and the venom crawler, and i have 5 havocs assembled, and 5 still on sprue (that I may build as an option). I am not currently thrilled with the master of possession's psyker abilities, so might consider getting the new chaos sorcerer when i pick up the forgefiend. I might look at options to field out the 400 points worth of models in place of the chaos knight I have still sitting in a box since they came out. The second havoc squad works well to help with that fill in, so still not sure what else would be good in place of the knight for those fights where i don't want to bring it. All in all i will likely cap out at around 2k worth of chaos marines with a couple of alternative build options which might put me in the 2500 ish range all together. I also have the dark apostle and his two disciples. So yeah i just got to get painting is all. Might as well start with my leader here first. As for chapters, I was leaning towards the Blood Scythe chapter, but honestly it wont matter as I wont likely be using that icon on any models. Fluff Wise I would love to build a unit of possessed they just aren't great models, or super great unit wise either. Demons for summoning wise, I have for tzneetch a lord of change, 10 pink horrors + blues/brims for splitting), 3 flamers, 3 screamers and an exalted flamer while for Khorne i have 20 bloodletters, 5 flesh hounds, 3 skull crushers, and a demon prince, skarbrand, and a couple bloodthirsters. Sadly however the bases don't match really for the demons and my 40k, so i might take the remaining 10 unassembled bloodletters and build them for 40k, and look at some other options. Its either that or simply don't worry about the bases matching when they get summoned in. Guess once I get this guy primed later this week I will try to start painting. Might just use the next few weeks as motivation for painting some word bearers.
  4. So I am slowly trying to work through my pile of shame. Now that I am caught up with my age of sigmar stuff I am trying to work through my 40k back log. I have mostly been painting my imperial fists, and I still need to work on some of my sisters. However this is a start to my chaos warband. So my local store has started doing a crusade this month, and I’ve been using my imperial fists for the crusade. But with a lack of chaos armies, I was finally motivated to work on my chaos warband. I was torn between alpha legion and word bearers. I opted for word bearers in the end because they are the first to fall, and they did it with style. Plus I like the the lore of both, but taking demon engines and possessed machines seems more natural for word bearers than the Alpha legion who just hide and infiltrate. So over the weekend I finally assembled my dark apostle. Most of the warband is already assembled and primed, I still have a knight to build at some point and I need to get my hands on a forgefiend. I should also look at either using my demons from my two chaos AoS armies (khorne and tzneetch) or look at investing in some slaanesh or nurgle to add to the summoning options. I haven’t really painted anything yet really as I started applying some base color on a squad of 10 chaos warriors. Anyways, the main reason I am starting this thread and topic. I finally got around to working on a two year planned conversion, and that is a demon prince. Every warband and army needs a worthy leader. The charismatic or fearful bloodthirsty crazed lunatic that others can either follow, gather around, or get behind, or sometimes be driven to serve. I decided my warband needed a good conversion for just that reason. I decided on a demon prince, but I will be honest, I simple hate the plastic demon prince kit ( I have one for my fantasy khorne army) and I miss aspects of the old metal one from 3rd edition. I wanted to have my demon prince accenting to demon hood, I needed him to still feel attached to the mortal realm, and still feel like a space marine he started out life as. So I decided I needed a solid base, and maybe border in a little heresy. Since sculpting isn’t my strongest skill set (mostly I lack the patient it truly requires, and I don’t do it often enough) I really had to rely on a good base model. So what better base than to borrow from an ultra marine, the nemesis legion of the Word Bearers. I started with Robute Guilliman, the primarch of the ultra smurfs. He is the largest space marine and would allow me a weapon legal starting point as well, and already same size base. I then removed all the imperial icons, and had to decide what I wanted to do with the armor. I gave it some thought and I didn’t want to go full on possessed. I want him transitioning, being granted a larger size to go with his daemon if blessings of strength and stature. I also wanted his armor to be covered more in runes, with a few notable changes. So I added a large blade to one knee, runes to his legs and flat armored, left one flat panel on his left thigh for script and text to be painted on, added a basic chapter symbol to his left lower leg, I added a few spikes coming out of his gauntlet Hand and of course two huge chaos worthy horns out of the helmet. The two shoulder pads were a struggle. One I decided to make a huge army symbol, with the book and flames protruding so I have a large book with a flame in the center sitting on flames that raise it from the shoulder pad. The giant eagle pad was tricky too, so I decided do a take on the demon aspect of the more modern army symbol, going with more flames to cover the eagle wings, then having a demon skull face coming out of that shoulder pad, and it gave me a reason to add more spikes and horns coming out. I forgot to say I gave him the mark of khorne on his chest with runes, because he will not have a jump pack and cause I like the idea of an extra attack with this guy. Now his backpack has been a bit of a tricky one, it just looks so puny. I ended up adding the flamei g censers to it, but I still feel I need to add something else, so may go through my bits and see if I can find something extra to add to the back pack area like adding some extra exhausts. For now I present to you his current look in plastic and green stuff. I only need to name this guy and finish the backpack area so I can get him primed and start painting him. So time for pics.
  5. Got some photo updates. Came home yesterday and went crazy on the painting. Finished the lieutenant, the eradicates, heavy intercessors, and the auto bolt rifle intercessors. Just got to finish my inceptors for my crusade force, then it’s onto other units. Probably work on the hell blasters and two extra intercessors to finish up those previous two squads. Might even do the suppressors, and will finish off the second dreadnought for sure.

  7. Sorry for the late reply been out of town lol week. The bases are urban ruin bases from dragon forge. I ran out of the 40 mm ones for the gravis suits so I did what I could on a few of the new heavy intercessors to make them closer to urban ruins. I wasn’t going for any sort of specific enviroment it’s just a ruined city or urban area. I figured they would be look better with the grey bases having the brighter yellow armor. They do siege towns, cities, and alien worlds so it works. That being said I am now feeling the bases lack something so thinking of adding grass tuffs to the bases, just gotta decide on what color to go with. Debating between a dead dried grass such as a grey or brown color (grey would look like dust covered grass from falling debris and collapsing buildings) or going with the blue alien tuffs to add color and an otherworldly feel to the army. Next time I am at my local store which will be next week for a game I will compare some of the tuff packs and see what looks good.
  8. So here is what I need to finish for my first 50 power level for the crusade I am about to start. I managed to push these guys to this point this week. The inceptors In the back have been at that stage since August, but will probably get worked up some over the coming few weeks. I will be gone on vacation for the next five days, so won’t get to work on any of those. The front four guys are almost finished, just some highlights, gold, and details to apply and bases to finish. The two squads in the middle have the yellow and red dome, just need to be focused further. I was doing some batch painting but decided to focus on four models the last few days to get them as close to finished. Just time for away from me having to prepare for this trip. Anyways hope you guys enjoy, it’s going to be great to get fully painted models on the table when I do get to play some 40k, even if they aren’t all finished those first few games. Also using a somewhat portable paint station to paint at these days since my hobby room is an old piano room in this old house and the floor is getting worse, so can’t really paint in their like I want to, it’s on the projects list, so maybe we can get the floor replaced. One of the joys of living in a house built in 1902, there is always something needing fixing.
  9. So it has been a while guys. I haven't really painted or finished painting anything for the fists since well, August. I did manage to finish painting some other things, ranging from finishing my 2k AoS Tzneetch mortals army, started on some other projects for other games but pretty much nothing for 40k. That being said, I am currently working on knocking off the dust on some fists and getting them ready for a new Crusade. My local store is looking to host an event starting in April. Its basically 4 weeks of trying to get in one or more games in a week. Its just encouraging people to play, but it gets people in at the store. The limits are 50 power level starting crusade, with no max size but battles of 100 power level (50 per side). This means my battles will not go over 50 power level but I will gain some options to play around with over the 4 weeks. We get to schedule the size (but likely stay at 50 power level every game) and day of the game with your own opponent or play at home if you want. Then we take some pics of the game, and encourage you to do a write up of the battle. Nothing special, but its a chance to work on painting more of my fists. They might give out some sort of prize but nothing mentioned of that so likely not. Who cares its a chance to get games in right. So my crusade list will focus on some new units but also using most of what I already have painted which isn't much considering. Here is what I plan to field for my starting crusade list. Primaris Lt. w/ shield, power sword, and neo Volkite sword (using the burning blade relic) [will likely be warlord for the event] Primaris Chaplain, (using the relic crozius most likely) *painted* Redemptor Dreadnought w/ Macro Plasma Cannon, Storm Bolters, Icarus Rocket Pod, Onslaught Gatling Cannon *painted* Bladeguard (x3) *painted* Intercessors (x5), Auto Boltrifles, Grenade Launcher Heavy Intercessors (x5) Executor Bolt Rifles, Executor Heavy Bolter Inceptors (x3), Assault Bolters Eradicators (x3), Meltarifles I feel its a well rounded patrol to start with, and planned expansions will be taking a second heavy intercessors unit with assault variants of rifles, suppressors, a second dreadnought, and some hell blasters. I also have 2 units of intercessors with bolt rifles that are already painted I could add as well as Tor Garadon, however it's only four weeks for the event, so just going to focus on getting the new stuff painted if I can. The second dreadnought is about 60% done painting wise, so that will help too. Might try to see if I can't push some games with people into may as well. Who knows what I will paint after the event. I got to use these events for extra motivation as it helps to slowly but surely clear out the pile of shame. I recently invested in those two heavy intercessors because they really scream Imperial fist to me. Gotta say I am not disappointed with the models, they are wonderful sculpts and looks like my army is heavily invested in the Gravis Armor. I will update with some pics. Most everything else in the list that isn't painted is at least completed on a few stages. They are based with the Iyanden contrast, and the wetbrush of Yriel Yellow, and all have decals applied, and the bases have a basecoat of Shadow gray applied. At this point is it taking the yellow and giving it the final edge highlight, the stippling of bestial brown weathing effect, then building up all the other colors for red/black/and melta areas, then adding the details like campaign badges and final markings and doing purity seals. So time to start pushing them as much as I can before the event starts on April 5th. Sadly I will be out on vacation next week so no painting (but maybe I will work out some sketching and can do something fist related, besides just enjoying the mountain scenery and family time. I will be updating it with some pics of the battles just to share since i know many of us have been having a hard time getting games in with the pandemic restrictions. I will also try to update with some painted pics soon. Also....the store has named the planet the crusade fights will be over. My Fists will be Taking back Kelyra, and cleansing it from the foul xenos threats and taints of Chaos or heretical forces that stand in our way as we reclaim this world for Dorn, and for the Emperor!!!!!
  10. Ok so got a double post because my internet and computer seem to be lagging when I tried to post this.
  11. So I finished these guys back on Saturday. Just been busy haven't gotten to upload them yet. And a few closer images for the details. Enlarged the first one to show Tor's Fist I decided to give him a red fist simply to break up all the yellow. Went red since its 3rd company colors. So i realized a slight error when I was making my crusade list, I didn't notice the power level change to hell blasters from the FAQ, so i had to change up my starting 50 power level for crusade. So i dropped the agressors and hell blasters, picked up a third unit of intercessors, 3 supressors, and the Apothecary (which i already had painted). As i expand my next purchase will then be a Repulsor Exterminator so i can bring in a tank and have another heavy support. I think as I add to the army and it grows I will work towards filling in a battalion, and try to focus more on models for the 3rd Company as opposed to bringing in stuff for another company like elminators that I see more as 10th company scouts really. Also I managed to get a small game in yesterday, my first for the crusade against some eldar. First game of 40k in over 2 years and first game of 9th edition. I ended up winning, but only cause my power fists were really slaying things. For such a small game I spent most of it in melee surprisingly. We played a full 5 turns, and only thing my enemy had left was a lone ranger that was hiding. He brought 5 rangers, 5 wraithguard with axes, a spirit seer and a wave serpent at 25 Power level, while I had Tor, a dreadnought, 5 intercessors and 3 eradicators. So next will be the 3 units of interecessors. I managed to get the first two units with bolt rifles the yellow highlight, and last night i assembled the third unit of Auto Bolt Rifle Intercessors. The goal will be getting the core of the troops done before i start moving on to other units now. But its a busy week so not sure how much progress I will get done before next week. Still got lots to learn and memorize for the army, but really enjoying how these guys are looking on the table.
  12. So with 9th here, and Crusade lists being a thing, I decided to start off with my Imperial fists as a crusade army to work on. I was torn between my Sisters army (which is honestly waiting on models that are on back order to get here), necrons and my fists. Necrons there are just to many in the local group starting those so decided to get some love and paint on my fists due to the sisters not being ready. Most of my local area is looking to do crusade, we got some new players in the mix and so far it seems like a good 10-12 people interested in doing crusade lists to play, learn, and get their models painted. So far there seems to be a few necrons, a dark eldar, death guard, and a few marines taking shape and maybe some others I can't recall. So I put together a 50 power level list to start playing soon. I knew I wanted to bring Tor Garadon to the party, after all no one is better suited for leading the 3rd company to battle even if such a small strike force to start with. My starting list is basically Tor Garadon, a Chaplain (with relic crozius), 2 x 5 man intercessors squads, a 5 man hell blaster squad, 3 Eradicators, 3 agressors, 3 blade guard, and a Redemptor dreadnought. Here is what my army looked like on Wed at lunch time. I have since finished all the yellow up to yriel using contrast over the white, and then a bit of a heavy dry brush of yriel yellow over that contrast layer. I then decided to focus on finishing up the dread, characters, and blade guard. The dread looks battle ready but the decals will fool you. Here is the state of progress on the focused models as of last night. They still are not finished, just some little details to do like purity seals and weapon handle wrappings, Tor's cloak, and optics, and the book on the back of the chaplain and dread still needs his cannon finished and some detail love too. But I am making great progress. The way I am painting the Blade guard, I am counting them as Company Veterans, not first company veterans, but also I see the blade guard as basically a Command squad. They fit the bill perfectly being just 3 models, just add an ancient and will likely use the blade guard LT as a company champion. Since first company tend to use white helms, I opted to give the Company Veterans Black helmets in stead. I am also doing black shoulder trim instead of company color, and adding company marking on knee pads. I Like the look it gives as a heraldry as befitting space marines which are more like futuristic knights. Sorry about the workspace, Its a temporary set up as my hobby room is in an old piano room of the house which apparently the vents don't work in there so the AC isn't working in that room and its a sauna during the summer months. So i created a portable paint station so i could get back into the swing of things during the hotter months in a much colder room.
  13. yeah thanks, sadly with the delays on getting core, I wont be able to do much till end of august on the girls. I am going to focus on getting my Imperial fists 50 power level painted up so i can start playing soon, then will get back to the girls. Got an order on back order now going on 2+ weeks as they haven't gotten their order from GW yet, and apparently the battle sisters wont be in stock till around the 18th of august or later. Since I am playing power level and crusade, points don't really matter as much, so probably going to make the second immolator just heavy bolters since its the retributors ride, turn it into a fire base for anti-horde and soft troops while the retributors will likely end up 3 multi meltas and a simulcrum. The seraphim I will likely just go with the second set as inferno pistols as well, a friend of mine said he likes to stagger them in on 2nd and 3rd turn, and to use the strategem on the turn they land in to make those meltas better. I did get the steel done and most of the bases finished on the models i have right now, I just put them on hold to knock out a bunch of yellow marines. But for now I am not playing matched play games, just more friendly casual games to get back into playing 40k when I can get some games in.
  14. well, Tor garadon is a special character, that means he comes as he is. You don't get to change his warlord trait and can't give him relics. Not that he needs it. He is also more of a siege captain/support captain. He does extra dmg against buildings and vehicles as well as has a better chance to wound them due to the warlord trait he has. They both have the same invunerable save and both come with rites of battle. Tor has the best power fist in the game right now, with it being effectively str 12 and dmg 3. So in melee they both have the same rend, but being a power fist tor will be hitting on 3's. Tor also has effective toughness 5, and 1 extra wound making him harder to kill. He also has the ability to pic a model close buy and make them BS 2 due to his signum array. He supports some shooting for sure but is no slouch in melee. The new blade guard primaris captain is generic, that means he can be from any company you want. He can also be given a relic (not sure if any suit him), and he can pick or roll for a warlord trait and effectively have the same warlord trait as Tor, but wont be quite as effective as him at taking down a vehicle or building. He comes with a pistol, while it is the same range as the gravis cannon tor has, it is no where near as effective being lower str and lower AP. So shooting wise he is sub par. Melee wise he has a master crafted power sword, while he may still hit easier, it isn't as much dmg as the power fist for sure, but both have the same AP value. Still Tor will be wounding easier due to him being str 12, and the blade guard captain only being str 4 in combat. As for survivability, the captain does get a 2+ armor save which is only slightly better but since he does have less toughess and wounds than tor he isn't that much more survivable just might get his save against rend, but at that point you will likely be rolling the invunerable anyways. He does have a chance to ignore mortal wounds which is handy, but it is still a chance and makes him better for taking on those space wizards. So over all, it comes down to a personal choice. If you are fielding 3rd company you might as well take Tor garadon, but if you want to field any other company take the blade guard one or which other captain you want. I myself have like 5 captains but they wont be painted up as 3rd company other than Tor. When i get around to painting the blade guard guy, i might end up making him 8th company, in charge of the Assault Reserves. He is melee focused and i can't see putting him as a first company due to that being Lysanders spot. I already have the Phobos one I am making 10th company, and then I have the Gravis captain to assemble and then I got the GW anniversary one with the power fist and plasma pistol that I may assign to the 6th company. Sorry I can't help you to truly decide between the two, but they do serve different roles really. However, if you are fielding a bunch of melee units, like the assault intercessors, and blade guard and other melee guys, you might be better off taking the blade guard captain and put him in the mix. Other wise, Tor might just be better overall in a general fist mixxed list.
  15. Greetings. First off I will say I don't got pictures yet. I will get these added as I get some models finished. So i am finally going to get around to working on my sisters. After some debate, and trying my hand at 5 bloody rose sisters and frankly not enjoying the way they were turning out (I honestly just get tired of painting full red armies fast....blame it on 4th and 5th edition and blood angels). So i decided to go with my own scheme of sisters, this time based around steel armor. I decided to base coat my girls in lead belcher to give them a darker steel feel than the silver I typically see. I am planning to give them turquoise robes, and some bone accents, and thinking some brass/bronze instead of gold accents. Still working on the scheme this week so its just a matter of getting it out of my head and onto a model. Anyways, i decided to start this thread as a place to post updates to my army. I haven't played a game of 40k in over two years, just was getting frustrated with the meta creep that was happening, but most of those players also moved on it seems as my local store I often visit likes to play friendly fun games more. Anyways, with crusade system i am looking forward to playing again. There are many in my local store who are getting started and also looking forward to crusade games. So i am going to be building my sisters more for crusade power level games than actual competitive play. The past two years I have been really playing Age of sigmar, and its been fun. But with the pandemic and all events being on hold, and gaming a bit more limited right now, its a great opportunity for me to get some 40k stuff painted. I have been lacking motivation as well and trying to keep myself inspired and with the local group all working towards their crusade lists its got me excited. I have my overall initial list of 50 power level ready to go. I just need to figure out a couple of unit builds. So i am looking for some input and suggestions from you guys on that. First off Seraphim. It seems everyone is now going to the inferno pistol build, and I am looking at two 5 strong units of them, i built my first one as inferno pistols. Are the hand flamers any good now? Should i build my second unit as inferno as well, or do one with flamers. Immolators. I got two of them as well right now, and i build my first one with the flamers. I plan to put a small squad of celestians in it with heavy flamers, flamer, and a combi flamer on the superior, just to have a nice classic purge unit. My second one I was thinking either heavy bolters or mutlimeltas. But I don't seem to see any lists that take those options. The bolters points wise are cheaper, but power level it doesn't matter. Would the multi meltas be worth taking. I do have two exoricists, but only one in the initial list. I am also looking at this second one being a ride for my retributors to start and eventually maybe getting a third immolator in the list. But unsure if i want to go with the heavy bolters or the multimelta, as fluff wise its their ride, but game play they may never set foot in it so it may become more of a battle tank role. and Lastly, the retributors. I am definitely going with the two multi meltas in the box, and was thinking of two heavy bolters as well. Just to split fire at two different targets, but would getting a third multi melta (second box of course), and fielding 3 multimeltas and a simulcrum be better for the start. I was thinking of giving the superior a combi plasma, since I am not really concerned about the points. I have to decide however my wargear loadouts because as crusade, I can't change them as i play unless i remove the unit and buy a new unit. So i want them to be effective, I can however add more bodies to the unit, so if i added 5 more bodies i could always pick up a 4th heavy gun. But it is unlikely I will expand them to 10. My overall theme for my crusade list is an armored mission. I decided on starting with a relic and warlord trait for my cannoness, and went for a generic relic due to not sure yet which order I will play them as. Opted for the pistol because its just amazing, at 4 shots, 18 inch range and str 5, ap-2, and 2 dmg, it will put a hurt on most things when they get close. Also i wanted every unit to have a ride or be able to put in a transport to start based on lore for the crusade/campaign. I do have plans to expand the army with a unit of Celestians with flamers, maybe some dominions, a missionary as a second HQ, the second exorcist, and a third unit of battle sisters for sure. I am looking at the following for my initial list. Cannoness, (Bolt pistol "relic pistol", blessed blade, and warlord trait) Imagifier battle sisters x10 strong (1 storm bolter, heavy bolter, Superior w/ unsure loadout yet) battle sisters x5 strong (2 storm bolters, superior with bolter ) Rhino Immolator x2 units, (1 with heavy flamers, not sure on second load out) Retributors (as above, 2 multimeltas,[unsure of last two sister load outs], superior with a combi plasma, and ammo cherubs) Exorcist Seraphim x2 units (one with inferno pistols, and plasma/powersword superior, second squad load out unsure)
