  1. i have a few friends that like the computer games, ttrpgs and books, but have no desire to wargame or make models. - i also have a friend that hates painting and modelling, but really enjoys the game (he does do both, but to the bare minimum required - he's been a fan and had armies for close to 30 years, similar to myself) - I also have a friend that hates painting, but is actually reasonably good at it and puts in the time anyway because he still wants his models to look good on the tabletop when he plays - I have another friend that has very little interest in the game but find painting models theraputic (but has no interest in converting the models). - and another friend who does the hobby and plays the game because the rest of the friend group does and he enjoys the time with us (he does read the lore extensively and has run ttrpg stuff a few times in the setting!) - and another friend that just obsessively buys all the models, occasionally builds and paints as the mood takes him and mostly just plays with his old stuff lol. - I'm the odd one out due to liking almost every aspect of the hobby. Being old myself, the above are also "old timers" as far as hobby fans go these days lol. They come in all sizes! This is very true
  2. I suspect they won’t, but agree it would be good if they did. a big concern with prepainted I have, is mold lines, and the injection points. That stuff will look awful.
  3. Appreciate you giving a more detailed explanation. I don’t agree with most of it obviously but I do understand the wider sentiment of concern for the changes in a hobby we have grown up with. I like some that I know you don’t, and both views are totally fine. amusing we both enjoy a bit of sarcasm too, as my pointing that out was in and of itself also sarcasm (common ground!). I think a low barrier to entry is a good thing, it supports a variety of players that way. Most of my regular gaming group have neither the time or desire to paint, I’ve gradually pulled them all into it to varied degrees, most wouldn’t do terrain though, a bridge too far, as it were. I don’t think these sets will preclude custom stuff, I could see GW moving toward this being the norm for their scenery, but with Etsy, eBay, other suppliers or just 3d printing there are so so many options for cool terrain anyway that the hobbyists that want to do cool stuff will continue to do so. Just like we have continued to convert and customise our models through the years regardless of how GW push things
  4. The texture does look iffy, but I’m still interested for the time saver on adding some additional variety to my existing scenery collection.
  5. Glad you can see it at least. this is a hugely varied hobby. People enjoy different parts of it, and have time and or resources for different parts of it. theres a huge portion of people that enjoy the hobby for the gaming, not the building and painting or the models - therefore wanting to get things to “tabletop ready” asap and leave it at that. Equally there’s a bunch of other people that have zero interest in the game but love to make loads of cool custom models, then there are people that love making terrain and cool scenic boards. There’s even people that take their enjoyment from customising their models extensively and learn to sculpt with putty or in the modern era, CAD, to do so, wonderful! Then there’s people who like to buy just specific models to paint for competitions and nothing more, hell there’s even people who love the setting and lore but have no interest in the games or building painting. There’s even some that do all of the above. all of those are 100% valid and no less indicators of a love for the hobby. We all could do with remembering that we are not the individual arbitrators of what is acceptable for the hobby, people dip their toes into different elements to different extents and that’s fine. i myself love all of the above except scenery, which I typically find to be a tedious chore to build, let alone paint. I’m a decent sculptor, a decent painter, I’ve customised most models I’ve made over many years in the hobby (some of which can be seen on these very forums), I have made gaming tables for personal use and worked on them for GW when I worked there. I’ve listened to and or read a huge portion of the black library offerings, I’ve watched most shows or films that have been made, I’ve played most computer games, I’ve entered painting comps (and won a few). so I just found the idea of you saying if i don’t want to make scenery, it’s not the hobby for me more than a little galling.
  6. 3d printed scenery is alright, plastic kit scenery sucks, I’m super anal about stuff like mold lines and scenery tends to have a lot AND be worse quality plastic, the result is it’s tedious and unenjoyable to me. I would rather spend my hobby time which is limited with 3 kids ranging from 10 months to 11 years, full time job, hobbies like running and roleplaying on top. hopefully they do come both as painted and unpainted options, but honestly for unpainted stuff I think I’d generally prefer 3d printed stuff these days. regardless, I don’t have issues with people saying they want unpainted, I do take umbrage at people suggesting if you don’t want to paint your own scenery you shouldn’t be in the hobby (which, to be clear, you haven’t said)
  7. honestly the worst take ever. So incredibly gatekeepy that it’s painful. Good to know that in your view I shouldn’t bother with the hobby because I don’t find painting scenery appealing. Even though I’ve sculpted and converted my own models for the best part of 3 decades. as others said, there’s a big difference between working on the models and working on the terrain, this is realistically no different to using the rollout gaming mats with designs on them.
  8. Personally, I’m not opposed to the idea. I’ve never got round to painting much of my terrain and I have quite a bit. Finding time for painting my actual models is challenging enough
  9. My gut says LAG for blood angels will be a 3. But I also think it’ll be interesting as the strats offering to trigger battleshock effectively nerfed every one of the LAG strats. So similarly wonder if it may end up being 2
  10. i wanted to purchase vandoth the fallen :( I had him in my cart, tried to order and the order failed by still charged paypal lol. Something is definitely whacky
  11. Librarius conclave plus the stealth one would give solid blood Raven vibes
  12. both, definitely both. If for no other reason than pose variety
  13. Based on comments on instagram it sounds like the codex ones are 2 pointers, which makes these ones seem... very underwhelming as two of these doesnt come close to the LAG. I think we'll see a total rework and be one of the first to get a new codex in 11th anyway so id expect LAG to go regardless. Which sucks, but im hoping we go back to red thirst as army rule
  14. Tend to agree, I’m not even convinced all three new blood angels ones combined are as good as pure LAG or Angelic Inheritors for blood angels.
  15. thoughts on our new mini detachment? I'm not a fan personally... d3+1 mortal wounds to be able to advance and charge is a pretty awful trade most of the time IMO. watching the full video there is also Legacy of grace - which is for infantry characters and units - gives +1 advance and charge, cant be used with other "grace" detachments - blood boil enhancement for psyker, makes their attacks anti everything that isn't a monster or vehicle 5+. - has a strat to give 5+ invulnerable as a reaction to being shot 1CP Encarmine Speartip - specifically boosts sanguinary guard to allow them to fallback and shoot and charge - has a strat "blurs of vengeance" that gives them stealth as a reaction for 1 CP - shadow of abomination enhancement that gives a jump infantry character +1 damage once per game for the fight phase. Interesting note here, none of the above modifies to wound or strength in any way. I am more and more convinced we'll go back to red thirst being our army rule tbh. https://www.warhammer-community.com/en-gb/articles/xiczsalv/warhammer-40000-faction-focus-space-marines/
