  1. I’m not informed enough to know that. It might be they are gently pushing out the last old nids and will replace them with new kits. Who knows. Think necrons sold quite a bit :) There are a substantial amount of kits A ‘online order only’ and some that feel out of stock like forever. Might be the repackaging maybe
  2. It’s true that the nid look is still good. It aged well like you said. It might be more a case of recutting certain models / optimising the space on the sprue. (Some kits have extremely annoying moldlines. ) But he cost to do that is probably not worth it. But I’m secretily hoping on a complete new bug mutation after snacking on that juicy new primaris stuff. :)
  3. Yeah the eight thing is somewhat annoying. I tend to run them in groups of 30 for the benefits. I slightly hope/ dream they might address that issue, or in the rules, or by launching an updated genestealer kit.
  4. For the wet palette I agree with what’s been said as well as the zooming in. But I understand the feeling! Red is a very transparent colour. A black undercoat will take a lot longer to build up than fe a grey one. Or you can spraycan it red ( or airbrush if you have it) I’d recommend a pin wash if you want a cleaner look. (Washing it all over will give it a dirtier look and can work great if that’s what you are after :) )
  5. The new battle box that is coming out is a good starting point. Right now Genestealer are in a very good position, with a swarmlord they can cross the distance quite nicely. Or a broodlord can buff them. I think a start collecting box could be a good addition to the Xmas box. Gets you another 8 genestealers , a broodlord and a trygon/ mawloc kit.( Carnifexes aren’t a bad buy either. ) Ofcourse we know there will be a new codex at some point so what’s hot now could change :)
  6. Sure. I still have some wip pictures. I’ll see if I can write smtg up :)
  7. The old calculation thing was before my time. Learned something and yes I do feel that might be better representative of what actually happened on the battlefield. Narratively wise that me what my bugs want to do: kill stuff to eat. So the more the merrier. ^^ At this point I’m probably putting ‘build more carnifexes’ higher on the hobby to do list. Yeah two w marines makes them a bit chunkier but it feels right. They should be. I’d like a bit more umph on our bigger monsters. Fe The idea of the Mawloc is so much fun and I keep shoving it into lists for it to not quite deliver and get slaughtered. Maybe a stratagem so it can charge when it just deepstriked(?).
  8. I’ve been making lists and playing some games recently with the release of 9th edition. And I must say I found it overall a fun experience. Before I genuinely detested making army lists. It felt more like a chore. Taking the detachment system and turning it around feels liberating. I generally go for one overall Hive fleet but I could see this being less useful for people that like playing more mixed armies. The missions feel very ‘non nid’ as well as certain ( secondary)objectives. Not the end of the world but I felt the need to change it a little on the narrative front to fit it better. It’s nice to have more objectives to choose from on one hand, yet I quickly found that playing against nids taking ‘Thin their ranks’ and ‘Bring it down’ are pretty much no-brainers. For context I fielded 2 times 30 x genestealers, 20 x termies with dev, 20x termies with flesh, a mawloc, a broodlord, swarmlord, flyrant , toxicrene, a fex and some ripper swarms. So it’s basically a victory point fest. A comparison: If I applied it to my count I got 20 on my counter for killing 715 points worth of marines (= 2 victory points) , my opponent got 74 for killing 1150 points worth (=7 VP )+ 6 VP for ‘bring it down’. It’s not a complaint but a lesson learned. Although it does leave me with a feeling of having to severely adapt what I’ll field in the future to not give VP away like Oprah. 9th Ed isn’t a major overhaul of 8th. I did splutter a little on the stacking modifier cap of -1. I understand why they put it in, but I feel like a cap of -2 would be more fair. For example a unit of devastators with multi meltas that moved shot at my flyrant with chameleonic mutation. Because they already moved the mutation modifier didn’t stack. It made it feel rather useless. The unit shot it to smithereens basically in one go so that -2 wouldn’t have been overpowered I think. I guess I’d rather have them just FAQ’d the overpowered ‘broken’ rules in other armies than making such a blanket rule for all armies. Surprisingly nids still seem to hold up enough against the new marines in combat to have fun. (We had an epic moment where my broodlord killed a shiny new Primaris captain in one go and in a last attempt (only in death duty ends) killed the broodlord in return. ) Having overwatch being a stratagem does help us a lot. It is clear though that a new codex for our beloved nids is needed but I’m happy to find out there still some fighting power in them with 9 th even without it. :) What do you guys think?
  9. Oddly enough I was under the impression that the Winged Hive Tyrant and the foot-slogging versions were distinct kits. That does change the calculation just a bit. No, same kit :) you get quite some building options.
  10. Another great unclean one finished ( sculpt from creature caster)
  11. I saw the haruspex first and got excited. I could use a tad more genestealers. ( why 8 on a sprue :’( ) the hive guard are ok and another flyrant might be handy. Let down for me are the gargoyles. Rather just had more termies or something. ( really anyone using gargoyles at the moment? ) But I promised myself not to buy more nids until their new codex comes out. ( or if this box is insanely well priced, but I’m afraid it might be higher than last year.)
  12. Yeah the rock hard twisted shape is normal when dry. I also have the habit of leaving it to soak in my kitchen sink for a bit . I use a dropper bottle with a finer squirty point to add water during use so it stays moist too. Generally happy with the palette. Only issue I found is the rubber rim when closing. It makes the moisture go too much to the lid. I’ve started with not closing it completely but leaving it slightly ajar
  13. Oh that Australian box content is amazing :) glad they got the better end of the stick for once !
  14. I did a warcry band ( iron golems) like that and I didn’t varnish it afterwards. I have 0 problems of it coming of. Varnish over metal isn’t the best look anyway. I’ve also played/ moved them quite a bit. ( I used W&N) Edit: I do use contrast snakebite leather over gold and that seems to stay on properly too without varnish. But they do have an inconsistency problem within that line for certain colours
