  1. similar to this, I have 2nd edition and 3rd edition versions - for the models (i think the 2nd edition one I got form 'The Works' many, many years ago for £5 - absolute steal!) I may play them one day,... maybe
  2. I have a bit of a soft spot for the Nobz and the dread but not enough I would buy either. My Ork journey started with Gorkamorka, stalled there for a good while then I went big on green tide after assault on black reach. I still have a sizable amount of this in my pile of shame. The only thinks I should really buy for my orks is base adapters to convert them from 25mm. What I would like to buy would be some plastic deff dreads and a stompa....not going to happen any time soon though Edit - Actually, by contrast, I would seriously consider buying the AoBR Orks if they went on made to order as long as they were not ridiculously priced (I think that would be the real issue on them)
  3. last few days in the hobby - very time limited at the moment day 1 Built and base coated the model of the month Terminator (my son managed to get me one on his travels - first time ever I have had one and it is a DW terminator too! Very chuffed!) and a blade guard lieutenant from imperium magazine Day 2 Base thin layer of wraithbone on both models Day 3 Painted the undersuit/piping - going well, not slips Painted the red details, aquila/DW symbols etc - still good. Painted the halo details above chapter symbols/skull on the sholder pads. it has all gone horribly wrong. Ok, not that bad but my dexterity has clearly taken more of a knock than I thought - arthritis is a pain in the.... hands! (and feet, hips, knees - meds are good though and I am at least fairly functional these days). Contrast paints/organic models are definitely easier than the crisper lines needed on armour/details and I have been greatly enjoying painting Nids and looking forward to more orks at some point so can enjoy a lot of the hobby easily still. It'd be nice to be able to work on my Marines a bit more easily Apparently the next few days will be doing more touching up of base layer than I was hoping but I will block in the other basics first These two are meant to be the test models for my DW assault box - I may dig out more bladeguard from my pile of shame and/or some older terminators for practice at this rate.
  4. I've sold a few things on Facebook - there is more haggling over price and you have to actually deal with timewasters vs ebay where it either sells or doesnt. Facebook also has a habit of relisting things for you, your choice if you think this is good or bad - getting random messages out of the blue asking about things you had forgotten you had listed etc. You may get stung if the buyer chooses to pay you as a business (more protection for them though so I can see why particularly for more expensive items). Facebook is particularly great for local selling though - cuts out the delivery fees for them and often the packaging costs for you. Ebay - the fees are more prominent so factor that in but it is generally a lot smoother. I've generally sold larger value things on ebay as I feel less likely to get ripped off. I cant remember whether it was ebay or facebook now, I've only ever had one actual issue with a sale (lego rather than warhammer) where the courrier had crushed the box of something BNIB . Impressive considering the amount of packaging I used. Despite including item protection they refused compensation as it was 'cosmetic damage'. Buyer returned this, at our cost - i think we did argue to get the postage costs back at least, so we have the item back but it has lost value to collectors. It is only a couple of dents to the box and it is sealed still but probably knocks £5-10 off the price I'd get plus rules out a number of buyers
  5. Random though, and sorry if someone has mentioned it already and I missed it, I wonder if Hachette will update the contents of the new combat patrol magazine to match this or if that may still be a decent source for the previous Combat patrol contents at a discount (I mainly want the deff dread to be fair but would happily have the lot for the Orks side).
  6. Not a big fan of the new combat patrol - I prefer the current one one with the dread/deffkoptas etc. I hope they keep both types but expect that is unlikely. I dont really want the beast snagga style of boys for my goffs/speedfreaks. Generic style boyz are much more diverse and useful Could be time to bite the bullet and buy a copy of this before if disappears. Not that I can at the moment To be fair, what I really need are some base adaptors for my current orks and actually to get on with painting the green tide I have, not adding to it!
  7. For priming my models, I have a collection of scrap pieces of wood and I either use elastic bands, similar to the GW paint stick, or blue tac to hold the models on. I have never had any problems with bluetac even turning the models upside down and (accidentally a few times, stumbling over things in the garage) shaking them around a bit too much.... as long as I have worked the tac a fair bit ahead of using it. I tend to get a good few uses out of it as it is mainly hidden under the bases so doesnt get contaminated with paint. When I get to painting, I have a select of GW handles, corks or old paint pots - again blue tac on the latter of these works perfectly.
  8. @littleplastichommies If you will be in London,.... Darksphere is fairly easy to get to from Central London. In person they will honor the 20% price if you spend over £100 though it can depend on the items sometimes.... You obviously then have 0 delivery cost. (you can also order for collection so you can guarantee what you are going to be able to get vs chancing their stock) ....However, their opening hours may not fit with your trip so check in advance as they dont follow typical retail hours.
  9. I have never been able to get a mini of the month - they are always out of stock by the time I can make it into a store. Admittedly I usually only get in the following Wednesday so it has been a few days but even on the very rare days I am in on release day they seem to already have gone out of stock. I would happily go in for this one on the day but am not prepared to pay travel or parking on the off chance I will get one.
  10. I like the battleforces however I wont be getting them ......To be fair - I still have the one that came with a defiler from the early 2000s nearly all on the sprue. I would be depriving others just to add to my pile of shame with these. Edit: curiosity got the better of me/distracted me from working - the box I have is from 2007 / 4th edition I do like the lord models though and they may make a nice one off painting project at some point
  11. TITH I tripped in the shops when getting a new Chaos Black spray and ended up leaving with the Bheta Decima terrain and a box inner circle companions. That is my yearly hobby budget well and truely gone
  12. I've had it a few times with the nids I am painting at the moment when I see some quite impressive other schemes... then I think - I am actually painting models again semi regularly so stick with what I am doing. I might concede and tweak the weapons a bit from black carapace to red at some point though. Scheme paralysis has hit me for other things though - I've not even started my Imperial knights because of it and, after probably 2 decades in the loft/storage, I am considering selling my 30ish metal daemonettes/ 5 seekers as I could never get the skin tone right.
  13. Not enough likes/the right options to to flag on this! As a parent to neurodiverse children - this resonates.
  14. to add my 2 pence..... +1 for an older hobbiest. I've been "warhammering" for 30ish years. Not as long as some, longer than some others. These days I have arthritis, thankfully managed, that can affect my hobby time. During this I have had breaks either enforced (Uni/moving house and no space etc) or just my interest has waned for a while. At the moment I am back into it and enjoying painting again. Contrast paints have made a big difference for my horde models and I've tried to become more forgiving of myself / my painting to let me finishing things. I enjoy painting a lot more now. But,... whilst I enjoy it i will have procrastinated over even starting building the 5 Knights/4 armigers army I purchased the models for as I cannot decide how to make them (magents, I know) and what scheme to go with. Similar with some other higher value or centerpiece models. Also, I bet I still have models from when I first started still on their sprues if I go digging through the mountain of shame. The scale of this is a bit intimidating. Not to mention, if I ever succeeed, where the Gork am I going to put eveything. Add to that the 'new/Shiney' stuff that comes out that I want to add..... Finally, the good old fashioned - I have a limited amount of time and have more hobbies.... Just started Final Fantasy Rebirth so my slow painting output it now dented even more.
  15. If it is an option to go to a 3rd party store you might be able to get the ultimate starer edition for around £100 ( 20% discount - e.g. darksphere. May need to check stock ahead of the visit or order online and go in togther to collect if that is an option) 2 full combat patrols, plus terrain, core rules, dice etc.
