Hobby and Mental Health. How do you cope?

I can understand the lack of motivation, and then coupled with all of the other issues, it becomes a real problem. I've found that by watching/listening to some YouTube tabletop wargamers (Tabletop Minions - Uncle Atom is a favorite of mine), I find my motivation restoring and I can get back to painting/building. Sometimes, I will make myself do a cleaning of my stored stuff and find old projects and get them reorganized for easy working later on. It's one thing done that wasn't done before and I'm a step closer to finishing something.- 52 replies

For me, I have to say Neuromancer, Count Zero, Mona Lisa Overdrive, Virtual Light(all by William Gibson), Crygender, Rock and Rule, Blade Runner, Max Headroom, Mute (netflix original), most of 2000 AD (Judge Dredd, Johnny Alpha, Durham Red, the ABC Warriors, and Rogue Trooper) all fit the bill for the underhive. -

Yes: http://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Black-Templars-Chapter-Upgrade It just takes some searching to find, since it's listed as infantry. Mind you, that is on the US site.- 190 replies

I think the Castellax is on a 50mm base, the same as the Centurions. They should be close to the same size. I would let you run them as Castellax.- 642 replies

In that case, you might also want to check Anvil Industries' "Regiments" line of weapons: http://www.anvilindustry.co.uk/Regiments/Weapons These are scaled for the AM/IG models. Assault Rifles, Combat Shotguns, Firestorm Carbines, Las Rifles and Sniper Rifles. These look far more substantial than the MR stuff.
-
The Anvil Industries weapons are scaled for Space Marines, not Astra Militarum and as such, are noticeably larger than the AM lasguns. The Ion Rifle is the Anvil Industries equivalent of the Plasma Gun. I would go with the Mad Robot's Pulse Rifle or Plasma Rifle.
-
Alternate lasguns are available from Victoria Minatures http://victoriaminiatures.highwire.com/ and Mad Robot Miniatures http://www.madrobotminiatures.com/zencart/. You should also check out both sites for alternate heads, torsos, arms and legs.

Once you have them painted, the bits won't matter. Resin pieces always need a good bath and scrub in lukewarm soapy water with an old toothbrush before assembly and they also need a good drying. If the resin feels sticky or greasy after that, the resin wasn't properly mixed or cured and one of the components is "sweating" through the surface. The only way I have found to take care of that is to let them cure in a warm, dry environment for a couple of weeks and give them a good wash and scrub every couple of days. When the pieces are no longer sticky or greasy to the touch, the resin has cured. Also, superglue is a must have for resin. As mentioned before, the regular plastic cement doesn't work on resin. You don't need very much superglue to stick the pieces together. As a matter of fact, I would get a thicker superglue (the gap-filling formula) so you will have better control for application. It takes a little longer to set, but it's worth it.

Stepping Down ...

Donated. I've started a new diet and exercise regimen, so I won't be buying any junk food at work anyway. I login to the board every day. Thanks, Brother Argos for all of your efforts for us. -
Today I finished painting my first Crimson Fist for my 2014 project. Once the gloss finish dries on the model, I'll start the decal work. This project is going to be different in that rather than painting assembly line style, I'm painting each model as an individual, allowing me more time to work on the details. Basecoat, two layers of highlights and then a wash to pull the blue together, then I go through and do the details like the metal bits, the crimson fist, the holsters and pouches and the helmet lenses. Decal details will be the chapter badge, the squad insignia and number and the army badge.

Today in the hobby, I finished assembling the Assault Marines my daughter bought me for Christmas and started assembling the remaining torsos for use in a dev squad. [EDIT] I also ordered parts to finish building the devs. Not bad for an hour's worth of work.
-
Yesterday I finally finished my Assault Squad for my Minotaurs. Today I'm shooting to complete my Landspeeder Storm and my scout squads (5 snipers and 5 BP/CCW).

How are the anvil industries bits? I hear nothing but good about them. They only look... decent in the pics on their site though. Are they up to GW standard? FW standard? Better? Somewhere in between? Maybe not quite as good but "good enough and a damn sight better than I can do with my limited GS-fu?" Etc. Anvil Industries stuff is easily on par (and in some cases) a notch above Forge World. Faster shipping, cleaner casts, and a whole lot of imaginative upgrade parts. Also about half the cost. I have yet to get a miscast or bent item from Anvil. I can't say the same for Forge World.
