Dark Brotherhood's Achievements

  1. Thanks Brothers! They are coming along. I can almost visualize the whole force completed now. I just don't know whether or not to do Stormtalons in silver or orange... I agree, although I think I would be pounced on by fellow fluff nuts! I imagine that with the newly retconned fluff, the Tiger Claws would have just repainted their armour, and those that hadn't would be those marines who had been kept in reserve companies (perhaps waiting in the Palace), or have been veterans too proud to repaint. Thinking about the whole thing gives me a headache! There is still the tiger camo scheme to address! Games Workshop, why do you hate me? Ha ha, thanks O Great Tyrant, your benevolence knows no bounds. Can I borrow the van? ;) Errrrrrmmmm...... OSL light? I think that is a reflection of my photo light off of the Dullcote. I hadn't finished the meltagun yet! But if it is one of the best ideas in the world, congratulations, it was YOUR idea. :( Consider it stolen, I will paint up a matching effect, if i understand what I think you are asking, and then get you some more shots of it. Ha ha!

  3. Well, hello there! DB here, your glacial painting, multi edition project dragging, Cult of Orange Emmisary. So...this happened! And the gears got turning. I had wanted to figure out a way to bring the army in line with the new IA 9 & 10 background, without breaking out a silver spraycan and painting over my cheetos. After wracking my brain for a while and looking at the new VI edition allies rules, I decided to throw some "counts as" blood angels in the mix to make the force play on the tabletop the way Cityfight and the Badab War books portrayed the (hurmwhatever)Claws. So, logically, I broke out a silver spraycan and painted over the cheetos. Sort of. This is a test batch on some Hammernators, using salt weathering. I brushed water on the dudes, and sprinkled some finely crushed table salt on them. I let that dry, and then hit them with Army Painter Plate Mail Spray in a can. Then using a toothbrush, some water, and the backside of an exacto blade, I carefully flaked off the salt, exposing the paint beneath. This takes some fiddling and getting used to. In some cases, like the sarge, I added a layer of black spray in between the orange and silver, for added effect, and then used a fine sanding stick to wear the edges of the armor and various places on the plates. The sinister heresy of the Tiger Claws was to bolster the ranks of the Astral Claws in secret. During the Seige of the Palace of Thorns, all illusions of decorum were thrown out in the intense close quarters battles. Dude, your, umm...heresy is showing. I finally started highlighting! Hooray! "Gee, DB, that only took you four years. Doghouse could have truescaled the entire Ultramarines Chapter in that time." Pheh, get out of my yard, damn kids. First five guys are almost done with highlights. Seventh Edition, here I come! It doesn't help that I've been blogging this project so long that all of the original subscribers have grown up, quit 40k, come back to 40k later in life, and then grown old and died. The circle of life... Some better pics of the OSL'ed backpacks, as promised. And here is my test camo on the Counts as Chronus Vindicator...Garish, yes, but chock full of Rogue Trader-y goodness and cheezy flavor! So, Sixth Edition is here, and I need some flyers, which seems Tiger Claw-Esque...but I want to modify the Stormtalon kit to make it look like a Rogue Trader era version would look if such a thing had existed? Any suggestions? As always, C&C welcome and appreciated, and thanks for looking. See you soon? Okay, nobody believes that. See you eventually, with some Death Company Astral Claws! -DB
  4. Our club, Knights of the Gaming Table, will be hosting a Midnight Madness VI Edition Release Party. The event will be at 11:59 PM Friday, June 29th at Hobbytown USA in Fort Collins. 6e rulebooks will be on sale at midnight. Late night 6e gaming then starts at 1:00 AM and goes until someone falls over!
  5. Thanks brother! I'm going to try to get better pics up of the tactical arrows and OSL from the backpack lights soon. Thanks for looking, all.
  6. Cheers B&C! I have decided to stop prefacing all of these necros with excuses. So there! You will just have to guess why it takes me years between updates. Or stalk me on other forums. Ewww. Anyhoo, I have decided to mix the new Astral Claws scheme in with my cheetos, and I have a few cool ideas for representing Tiger Claws vehicles that have been repainted silver. Here are some crappy cel phone pics. Finished freehand tactical arrows and red Xs here and there, and you can't tell, but OSL has been added to the backpacks. Took the opportunity to get some finecast bits to more easily convert my Power Armor Huron, and I'll be picking up the Termie version as well. Next up, highlighting! The plan right now is: New "Black Sunburst" style Tiger Claws scheme on the Termies Astral Claws Scheme on the Sternguard. Highlighting and weathering Source lighting.
  7. *waves at thousandsons* For anyone in the Fort Collins area, Knights of the Gaming Table is now running open gaming noon til about midnight...40K, Fantasy, Warmahordes, Infinity, Malifaux, and currently running Deathwatch campaign set in the Badab War! knightsftc.blogspot.com Come and see us
  8. Wow. So the Badab War Imperial Armour books are flat out amazing! But now I'm torn...in the books, while mentioning the Tiger Claws they have retconned the fluff to state that the Astral Claws were never known as the Tiger Claws. Instead they were joined together in a secret attempt to bolster the Astral Claws ranks while saving the doomed orange marines. I have steadfastly refused to give in to the retcon, claiming "Old Grognard" status and clutching my copy of White Dwarf #101 near to my chest. The strange thing is that the Red Corsairs armour definitely gives a nod to the Tiger Claws scheme...so if the Astral Claws were silver...I dunno, I think they just couldn't justify a whole book of Orange Marines. Sissies. But.... Astral Claws are pretty cool. But... I'm not repainting my Cheetos. What do you guys think I should do? If I include some of the new scheme intermixed in my army I think it would look sloppy and hodgepodge. But I definitely want to expand the force with the Tyrant's Legion units and Apocalypse Formations. Then there's this guy: Which I am entertaining the notion of using as my scheme for my sternguard and/or termies. May also make my Vindicators look pretty sharp, too - with a black nose fading to orange. So what do you think? Put my foot down to the retcon, or give in in some degree? And to what degree?
  9. NNNNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEECCCCCCRRRRRRROOOOOOO!!! Hello all! Long time, no see. My absense from these hallowed halls is squarely the blame of Warm///PURGED///ordes , Warh///PURGED///ntasy, and Co///PURGED///ege. But look what I got! I've been waiting patiently for both the financial opportunity and the time to purchase and employ these fantastic books. With no excuses before me, and the urging of my club peers, I'm back at it! I didn't work on my Tiger Claws for a full year while painting some competition pieces, some Space Hulk guys, a Dark Elf Fantasy army etc... Here are the tasks ahead: Finish conversion of power-armored Lufgt Huron counts as Pedro Kantor Paint termies. Finish detailing of 40 Marines (highlighting, emblems, etc.) including Sternguard. Paint 3 Vindicators. Build and paint a Librarian. My tentative goal for all of this is September. We shall see.
  10. Good works, Dazzo and Mr. Sibbering! Absolutely a great and worthy project. I have considered (like a madman) painting up hundreds of marine schemes for a giant convention display. This might get me motivated for such an undertaking. And it's cool and flattering that my scheme for The Dark Brotherhood is now semi-official :D Nice job on the chapter symbol.
  11. Eight more tactical marines join the fray! Now, apart from two heavy weapons awaiting backpacks, my tactical marines are ready for the final few stages of highlights, OSL, and weathering. Whew. Took me long enough! I'm pleased with my progress after three months off, though yesterday my painting hand tried to rebel against me. I smacked it around some. I'm going to do the rest of the work on these fellas assembly line style, so there should be some updates soon. Thanks for looking!
  12. Yeah, That's the effect I got, i just did it orange over black. This guy has the test version. ...which i wasn't too keen on. Those are actually pretty sweet looking! I may do something similar looking, trying to get the effect from the White Dwarf illustrations without being too...umm....lame. Thanks Iron Phoenix!
  13. I tried this on the test marine, painting a greave black, and then striping it. It came out really lame looking, but I am going to try again with a different stripe pattern as I want to use it for squad designation. Thanks! He's still around, though unless a painting contest comes up any time soon, the Tech Banana and Huron will probably be painted last. Gonna prime some backpacks today, and I should get about an hour of work in on the last Tactical squad!
  14. Started work on the Lufgt Huron "Counts as Pedro" model. I am using the Jump Pack Chaplain as a base, because if you look closely, the Tyrant of Badab is wearing a nearly identical suit of armor, easily modifiable. Also, the model is HUGE! So far i've just hacked the head and some random purity seals etc off, but he will get a power axe and a pre-corruption Iron Halo on his backpack like Huron's. Also, here are some random pics from my LHS of another army joining the illustrious "Cult of Orange": The Chapter of the "Purging Flame and Cleansing Tide" We now officially have more Ultras and Cheetos Marines than anywhere else in the state, I reckon.
