  1. Now for my latest update: the Ironclad Dreadnought. This one is a fairly straightforward kitbash of various dreadnought kits. I always thought the standard Ironclad Dreadnought is a bit too static, so I've tried to make this one a bit different. The Seismic Hammer is made from the left arm from the Furioso/Librarian dreadnought kit, fitted with a Daemon Hammer from the GK Dreadknight kit. I've added some additional bits to the hammer to make it a bit more ornate. I also added a Heavy Flamer to the body of the dreadnought (as seen on older mk's, like the ones from Forgeworld), instead of the arm. And ofcourse, all the arm are magnetized to allow for different weapon options. I hope you fellows like it! http://i776.photobucket.com/albums/yy45/AzzY_NL/2013-08-031136.jpg http://i776.photobucket.com/albums/yy45/AzzY_NL/2013-08-0311361.jpg http://i776.photobucket.com/albums/yy45/AzzY_NL/2013-08-031137.jpg
  2. Due to the recent data base crash, my last updates were removed. So, for the sake of completion of this thread, I'm posting my recent Sternguard once again. Here they are: http://i776.photobucket.com/albums/yy45/AzzY_NL/2013-07-141028.jpg http://i776.photobucket.com/albums/yy45/AzzY_NL/2013-07-141029.jpg http://i776.photobucket.com/albums/yy45/AzzY_NL/2013-07-141030.jpg http://i776.photobucket.com/albums/yy45/AzzY_NL/2013-07-141051.jpg http://i776.photobucket.com/albums/yy45/AzzY_NL/2013-07-141052.jpg http://i776.photobucket.com/albums/yy45/AzzY_NL/2013-07-141054.jpg
  3. On Biomancy: I wouldn't discount the powers other than Endurance and Enfeeble so easily. Last two battles I played, I rolled Life Leech and Hemorrhage. Life Leech greatly helped my Librarian to survive on the frontline by recovering lost wounds. Hemorrhage however, was truly outstanding. I was fighting Eldar, which are mostly toughness 3 troops, so they fail their toughness test on a 4+. I killed about 6 Swooping hawks and put a wound on his Autarch in a single cast. Granted, my opponent had some bad luck with his dice, but still it is a power which works great against low toughness targets. So always keep your opponent in mind when rolling your psychic powers.
  4. I think I've got around 2500 pts worth of models for my chapter. My main (ie. competitive) army list is all complete, so now I can create some units which I think will be fun to use on the battlefield. I've recently build a gaming table at home. Of course this requires quite some terrain as well, so I've been painting up some fortifications (Aegis Defense Line, Bastion), buildings and craters. Most of it is done now, so I can focus back on my chapter. Right now I am putting together additional Sternguard veterans, which I plan to deploy in a Drop Pod. An Ironclad Dreadnought (+ Drop Pod) is also on the list. Then there are still some terminators which I will have to paint up some time... so, still more than enough to do! Other than that, I am planning on adding a Death Korps of Krieg artillery detachment to use as allies. However, that's neither power armour nor something I'd be able to complete in the near future, so don't hold your breath for that. B)
  5. Another addition to my army: a Stormtalon Gunship. I am quite surprised I don't see more of these in the Hall of Honor, as it is a fun model to assemble and paint. There is a lot of hate on the model, but when I see it in real life, I'm actually getting fond of the model. Call me crazy, stupid of blind (or just simply Dutch... which I am... no offense taken!) but I like the flying Rhino on a stick. I hope I can convince some of you to give this model a chance as well! On with the pictures: http://i776.photobucket.com/albums/yy45/AzzY_NL/2012-10-152120.jpg http://i776.photobucket.com/albums/yy45/AzzY_NL/2012-10-152119.jpg http://i776.photobucket.com/albums/yy45/AzzY_NL/2012-10-152121.jpg http://i776.photobucket.com/albums/yy45/AzzY_NL/2012-10-152122.jpg I have magnetized all weapons, so I can use it any way I want. As for now, I am mostly running it with the TML. http://i776.photobucket.com/albums/yy45/AzzY_NL/2012-10-152125.jpg http://i776.photobucket.com/albums/yy45/AzzY_NL/2012-10-152124.jpg http://i776.photobucket.com/albums/yy45/AzzY_NL/2012-10-152123.jpg
  6. No, just multiple thin (ie. very watered down) layers of paint, applied with the GW Tank brush.
  7. I've recently finished my Command Razorback, in which the Chapter Master and his Honour Guard will ride to battle. Now, I assembled the Razorback before 6th Edition came out... so it's not as much the preferred method of transporting an assault oriented squad. But oh well, I'm sure I can make it work somehow on the battlefield. Short description of the Razorback: It is equipped with an additional comms array on its turret, in order to relay the orbital bombardment orders from the Chapter Master. The turret is custom kitbashed, from parts of the original Razorback turret, vindicator parts and the sponsons from a Predator. The turret is magnetized, so additional weapon systems can be mounted (Lascannons are on the painting table as I speak). The raised top of the vehicle comes from the Imperial Bastion kit. The dozer blade is magnetized as well. The personal transport of Chapter Master Aureas Macto: http://i776.photobucket.com/albums/yy45/AzzY_NL/2012-07-241930.jpg http://i776.photobucket.com/albums/yy45/AzzY_NL/2012-07-2419301.jpg http://i776.photobucket.com/albums/yy45/AzzY_NL/2012-07-2419302.jpg Inscribed on its hull are some of the most notable engagements in which Aureas Macto personally led his Crimson Justicars into battle: The siege of Troyos and the great tank battle of Korsk II: http://i776.photobucket.com/albums/yy45/AzzY_NL/2012-07-241932.jpg The purge of Valgoth and the participation in the Balur Crusade: http://i776.photobucket.com/albums/yy45/AzzY_NL/2012-07-241931.jpg Hope you'll like it!
  8. In my opinion, hover mode is a factor that mitigates the lack of re-rolls, so it is a part of my argument at least... ;) With regards to the chance of a 5+, what I meant was: you can't determine the usefulness of a weapon by its chance to 'one shot' a target. A 5+ on the damage chart isn't exactly a big chance to one shot another unit. I agree with you that the AP2 helps, there is no denying in that, but it doesn't make the lascannon a no-brainer. I'd say that the TL-Lascannons are on par with the TML when it comes to intercepting enemy flyers. The thing is though (and I know that is not a part of your argument, but it is a factor that is always in my head when assessing units), the TML offers you so much more versatility than the lascannons. And on top of that, the TML has better synergy with the Assault Cannons when picking other (ie. infantry) targets to engage.
  9. Going to play devil's advocate here: Twin-linked -> The TML has 2 shots, the Skyhammer has 3. The Lascannon only has 1 shot. Volume of shots make up for the lack of a twin-linked weapon system. Also, in hover mode you can fire at BS 5, in which twin-linked will hardly be necessary. Str 9 -> Str 8 weapons still have good odds against AV12. Also, the already mandatory twin-linked (!) Assault Cannons are able to rend AV12 (ie. when you glance, you'll penetrate AV12 due to rending). The Skyhammer may struggle, I'll agree. AP2 -> 5+ is hardly a reliable chance. What I'm trying to say is, you can't rely on a 5+ to destroy the enemy flyer. I still think volume of fire (notice a trend here? :P) is the way to go for the Stormtalon.
  10. Why not go for both? In my opinion, the TML still delivers on both fields. The krak missiles as 'interceptor' and the frag missiles as 'ground strike'. Str 8 should get you a long way in glancing/penetrating other fliers. That being said, I'm coming around on the Skyhammer. I like the volume of fire (particularly to snap off hull points by glancing), but I am in doubt if the 3 shots make up for the fact that it has only Str 7 instead of 2 shots of Str 8 with the TML. On top of that, the Assault Cannons already bring you a great volume of fire to glance a vehicle to a wreck. Luckily both TML and Skyhammer use the same pod on the model, so I'll just magnetize both missile options. I'm pretty sure I won't be using the HB/LC options very soon.
  11. Thanks everyone for the kind words. Nice to see that my DIY chapter is B&C approved! :cuss It's quite funny you should say that, because that was exactly the way I envisioned him while assembling/painting him! That is the reason why his head is slightly tilted upwards, while I originally planned him to look just straight forward. It's amazing how the most subtle poses/details can give a model a more characterful look. @ Porridgemeister: That's actually a very good name.... 'Aureas Macto'. I like it! Hell, I might even use it from now on. Thanks!
  12. Finished another addition to my ever expanding army: Honour Guard. They're not very special, basicly some models from the mk1 and mk2 veteran boxes, all equipped with power weapons. I chose the model with the two handed power axe and the laurels on the helmet to be my chapter champion. Somehow the model just fits that role. I'm pretty pleased with how my chapter banner turned out. It's the first time I ever tried to freehand on such a 'big' banner. I wanted to make it look like a believable chapter banner, I hope I succeeded. Hope you'll like them! http://i776.photobucket.com/albums/yy45/AzzY_NL/2012-06-162027.jpg The chapter banner of the Crimson Justicars: http://i776.photobucket.com/albums/yy45/AzzY_NL/2012-06-162021.jpg Chapter Champion: http://i776.photobucket.com/albums/yy45/AzzY_NL/2012-06-162023.jpg Group shot with the Chapter Master: http://i776.photobucket.com/albums/yy45/AzzY_NL/2012-06-162022.jpg
  13. I never said that the Stormtalon can arrive via Deepstrike. The rules specifically prohibit the Stormtalon escorting a unit that arrives by Deepstrike. But yeah, to make things more complete I'll edit the first post.
  14. So, the new Stormtalon Gunship. The general consensus appears to be that the new flyer is too ugly to look at. But, aside from the looks, how do you think the Storm Talon serves best in a C:SM army? What is its purpose in 6th? Some stats: - Fast Attack slot on the FOC; - Fast Skimmer; - AV 11 all around; - BS 4; - Ceramite Plating. Weapon options: Standard load-out: Twin-Linked Assault Cannon, Twin-Linked Heavy Bolter The Twin-linked Heavy Bolter can be replaced by: - Twin-linked lascannon; - Typhoon Missile Launcher; - Sky Hammer Missile Launcher (60" range, S7, AP4, Heavy 3). Special rules: - Escort Craft: Can be attached to a unit entering from reserves, and will appear within 6" of the unit. It cannot escort a unit arriving by Deepstrike. One Stormtalon per unit. Cannot escort another Stormtalon. - Hover Strike: Can convert to a skimmer but may not move (it can pivot on the spot) in order to receive a +1 to BS against artillery, beasts, bikes, cavalry, infantry, MCs and vehicles that are not skimmers. Also all shots have the Pinning special rule. - Aerial Assault Can move 12" and fire all weapons - Supersonic: May move flat out up to 36" I think the Typhoon Missile Launcher will be the best option, especially given the Aerial Assault special rule. Combined with the TL Assault Cannons, this could lead up to some nice rear/side armour shots, and also not withstanding it's potential against infantry. The Sky Hammer Missile Launcher feels like a similar weapon system, with stats that are the average of both fire modes of the Typhoon. The extra range and the extra shot make it a viable method of heavy support. But do you really want the long range? Sure, it is only an AV 11 vehicle. So you'll want to keep it out of range and in cover. But let's not forget the 24" range of the assault cannons. You'll have to get up close and personal to put these to good use. And with the pinning special rule when in hover mode, this can prove to be a true infantry killer. I am not that enthusiastic about the lascannon option. It is the most expensive of the three, and it's not really adding anything spectacular to the gunship. In my opinion, lascannons do not mix well with assault cannons. Their target groups are too different to be put to good use. I am thinking of running a Stormtalon Gunship with Typhoon Missile Launcher along with a squadron of two Landspeeder Typhoons with Heavy Bolters. This will be a fast fire support unit, capable of damaging both light armour and infantry. The weapon systems work well in synergy with each other, and the speed of both units will add to their versatility. What do you guys think? Are you going to use a Stormtalon, and if so, in what manner?
  15. So, I actually finished my Chapter Master yesterday. He is unnamed as of yet, so any suggestions are welcome ofcourse! I've always been a fan of the Masters of the Chapter boxed set. I wanted a character with a sense of authority, and (game wise) a storm shield and a weapon that could pass for a relic blade. So, what better model to choose than the Master of the Watch? I hereby present the Chapter Master of the Crimson Justicars: http://i776.photobucket.com/albums/yy45/AzzY_NL/2012-05-152046.jpg http://i776.photobucket.com/albums/yy45/AzzY_NL/2012-05-152048.jpg http://i776.photobucket.com/albums/yy45/AzzY_NL/2012-05-152043.jpg
