  1. Finally finished and got a video that passes thew lowest grade. Brutalis Dreadnought Brother Bors is almost ready for rampaging. Bit of imagination in extra arm moment to get the clench fist cause I'm angry pose. Also, just sharing as I was chuffed to get 10 meters on 2mm x 3mm chain with postage for less than a £5, get in! :)
  2. The Crusade continues.. Brutalis time. Had almost painted the one above but burnt out and it's packed away now for house move... not that I have any confirmed dates yet. So for now .. while I clam myself from painting tiny nid gants... :(
  3. Aye, that's the plan. The Tau Light Ochre will be the transition point on the skin from the chitin to the lighter colours. It will also the be the line with spots. Sepia is working well for shade on the skin. So the orange and brown will be more or less confined to the chitin. :) Testing has finished, the painting has begun... on these guys anyways. With some home made painting grips, glue, cork and nails, what more do you need? Probably paint the contents of Leviathan before I paint the Giga-Tyrant, just to make sure I've got it down.
  4. Thank you BadgersinHills, Thought I'd throw up some paint testing progress. Decided to not try and paint old models over and over again till I get it right, so I did that thing with spoons. Had been to the local GW to pick up some paint that would work better then what I had. Testing it by brush didn't go so well, as I expected it to be. This is the tester model, by brush, not bad but to splotchy for the tones I'm going for. Have I actually posted a pic yet? here it is if I haven't. Air brush to the rescue. First lot, from left to right: Primer Grey seer > skeleton horde > Gryph-hound orange > gore-grunta fur Primer Wraithbone > same steps Primer Zandri dust > same steps Left to right Grey seer > T'au light Ochre > Gryph-hound orange > gore-grunta fur Wraithbone > same steps. Altogether. Personally I'm a fan of the Wraithbone> T'au light Ochre, as it's closer to the crab underbelly transition. Then hit it with highlights of screaming skull on what would be the underside of the creature. Spots along the dark to transition to light shade lines between the chitin and that areas that would have skin, with a brown(think coconut crab scheme but way less and just on the lighter areas. Sparse freckles of screaming skull on the darker zones, applied by tooth brush flecks, possibly ripped sponge. Probably a wash of skeleton horde and or Agrax on the end for the recesses. Sounds easier than it will likely be. I hate painting by the way, So so much, but it sounds good in principle. Got to be said though, love contrast through the airbrush.
  5. I've been trying not to build anything until I've got my Tyranid paint scheme down, which isn't going great. But I caved and built the 20 Gants in the box. Have broken out the airbrush and got it set up, so testing with that will commence this weekend.
  6. I'm sure whatever you come up with it be great. Checked your project thread, guessing you haven't got to the DP yet. Which Daemon prince are you going to be using or is a kitbash/sculpt job? either way I'll keep an eye out.
  7. Not seen anything like that in a while, or before. Love it! With the details you put into these models I'm looking forward to seeing this last one completed.
  8. Thank you YannTheMad, and I turned it into one of those Tyranid capillaries things. It towards the front right on the base.
  9. Aye pretty much, Ultra Marines. Only cause I like Blood Angels better :) and thank you. Managed to reduce the paints for the overall main colour scheme to GW contrast that should work just fine through my airbrush. Spray Primer or through the air brush:Wraithbone base Air brush Contrast:Skeleton horde Contrast:Gryph-hound orange Contrast:Blood angels red, maybe glazed with Agrax Earthshade Layer paint, Screaming skull, for highlights, speckles and probably those lines folks like to paint on the chitin. Claws, hoofs those parts. Contrast: Black Templar Still thinking of a good base for those parts, mid tone brown?, and likely a bone colour for those highlights and scratches etc.. If all goes well, then prime paint repeat. Oh should say, basing colours on a Crab, if you google the Hives name, Cancridae, you understand what I'm going for, :)
  10. Them some dam fine NL's, captured their theme without going over, very dark. Perfect balance. I'm more of a WE's person so I appreciate the skulls, lol. Looking forward to seeing more.
  11. Indeed, more then me. I bought the box sets that the blade guard came in years ago..... they are still on the sprue. I get very easily distracted. Saying that though, I stuck to my guns so far today, started to apply a run of test paints for my Tyranids rather than start anything new. Looking forward to seeing more.
  12. Thank you all, just about to nip out to the local GW for some paints. See if I can reduce the amount of paints that I need, to exact or close to colours. But for now, time for some colour testing, paints for the Tyranid Dorchaon on the left and the base on the right. Can you guess the chapter of the dead spacemarine Terminator ?
  13. Definitely need to invest in some editing software and a camcorder if videos are going to continue. I won't go into the trails I went through to bring you this low budget quality video, for folks that make vidoes, when you have stuff that can do the job but none of the options work... even as far as going into the coding and researching code to try and correct it.... yeah.. if you have capable software already, it should cussing work. Anyways.. Tried to get that shot to show what I was on about when building the inside of the head area. So rather than empty space or filled right up to the neck I wanted to create, well what I have. To give it that neck and shoulder to separate head from body? And size shot, a primaris, a Calgar, Carnifex, and a slightly beefy LR. (is the only one not packed away currently) Now to figure out which paints I need that come closest to the colour scheme I have in mind. Also if it wasn't for that dremel this would of been a very difficult project. Removing all the skulls, the hair from various places, digging out areas to attach other parts, smoothing areas a standard hobby file can't get etc. While I have the Balrog wings, overall I think two wings was enough.
  14. ohh, such blasphemy! I hope not, but we shall see. It is finished, but going to make a low tech basic video on one of those turntable things I bought just for it, that and future projects. Thought I'd start actually doing something on youtube, just short videos, basic stuff. Had a few runs today on the camera I have, it's not a dedicated camcorder but can take videos. Was alright but by the time I was on "take three" the battery died and had to charge it, by which time the natural light was to dim. Might do a little commentary, but I'll likely chicken out of that. lol. Not even sure what to call this thing, probably some combination of the Dorghar and some other Tyranidy sounding names.
  15. Had a busy night and day of hobbying, zen. Concept positions for the base. Tyranid capillaries sprout. Think these will do for pinning, nails. Test fit and the thin is solid. And,, Nom Nom Nom , because I'm a grown up. The tail and main body sections are glued. Tonights work shall be a little addition on its back where the hair goes but planned something else(as hair doesn't really work for tyranids). The base other than being painted is pretty much done, might add in some spent bolter shells and that tyranid capillary, probably just to the upper right of the "Iron halo" of the ruined statue head.
