  1. I played my 2nd game of HH the other night vs TS. Polux, MoS, 2 squads of terminators (5 indomitus w/ VSS/TH in a phobos and 5 cataphractii deepstriking) 6 combi melta vets in a rhino, 2 squads of 10 tacticals in rhinos w/MM. Sicaran, lascannon sponsons, leviathan (storm cannon, siege claw), 10 heavy support lascannon. Fun game, my opponent is a friend and he could easily crush me I'm sure but that's not really the point of our little 30k group. He had Amon and some other wizard, 2 squads of the wizard terminators, 2 squads of tartaros lightning claws, some magic snipers, leviathan, contemptor, arcus. Things I learned ... dice are fickle. Polux and the cataphractii DS in and smashed Amon and those pesky magic snipers but he ended up taking some wounds on overwatch and dying to the HBolter of the arcus after it's turret exploded. Killed his leviathan with my combi vets. Yah. He exploded in my face. Boo. VSS can only protect you from so much ... I don't think those guys earned their points back ... maybe next time. Also what even is the point of having indomitus as an option? Need to paint up my tartaros from BoP. My leviathan had great rolls. Great overwatch rolls, and just smashed whatever he got into combat with. Lastly ... this game has a lot of remember ... I'll get it eventually (hopefully) I'm hosting a mega battle at my place (10 players if everyone who said yes shows up). I'm using basically the same list but adding a falchion, dropping the hammer terminators, and increasing my vets to a full 10 man with 2 meltagun (I felt like they had nothing to do after they shot their combi meltas). Thanks for the advice on Dorn ... I'll definitely work on getting him painted up ... been trying to figure out what recipe/scheme I should go with. How has everyone else been doing? I'd like to make a Stone Gauntlet list eventually and also a list with Sigismund and Templar
  2. I guess I was more wondering what kind of list to put around him. This is what I have so far completed (close to complete) Polux Master of Signal 5 cataphractii. 2 chainfist, 1 assault. Magnetized 6 combi-melta vets 20 tactical marines 5 support plasma 10 heavy support lascannon Sicaran with lascannon sponson Leviathan. Stormcannon. Drill. 3 rhino. Pintle mounted MM LR Phobos. Works out to about 2500. I have a Falchion I’m working on to make it 3k. But I also have Dorn unbuilt because I just didn’t see how I’d use him best. I’m not into being super competitive WAAC. I don’t think it’s in the spirit of the game. But I also don’t think it’s a good game if I’m LAAC because my list is junk and my opponent just rolls right over me (now if he rolls over me because my tactics are junk that’s a different story lol)
  3. I think those Tamiya paints are mainly for airbrushing. If you're looking for GW alternatives I'd check out Vallejo ... huge range of colors and you get like 50% more volume for less money. Oh, also they come in nice dropper bottles which I like.
  4. I'm new to DW ... question ... If I have 10 man veteran squad ... 5 vets, 4 bikes, 1 Vanguard ... and I combat squad them as suggested elsewhere in this forum ... do the 4 bikes and 1 Vanguard remain as troops?
  5. I've had the WORST time working on the FW zone mortalis boards. Soaked, cleaned, scrubbed ... prime ... paint peels right off. Strip, soak, clean, scrub, degreaser ... prime ... paint peels right off. Repeated again but this time used some automotive bonding primer .. finally sticks ... but even then it still peels/scratches very easily after a gloss coat (tried future floor polish through an airbrush, clear matte varnish rattle can). These boards are going to be used in a store so I'm planning on multiple thick layers of future floor polish topped off with dullcote once they are completely painted ... wish me luck
  6. You can also dip them in cool water or even just blow on them to cool them down and have them get solid enough to retain the straightened shape
  7. Legio Ignatum and Metalica were at the Third War of Armageddon As was Legio Invigilata, as featured in Helsreach
  8. It's so worth it to get an airbrush. For perspective ... I'm a slow modeler and painter ... the fastest part of my Imperial Fists is the yellow. Literally gets done in one session and I've actually adjusted my yellow technique because I'm trying to rush out my 30k Fists and I personally think its coming out great and takes hardly any "artistry". Prime black, spray burnt umber from below, spray white primer from above (be liberal, this is the part that takes a small bit of an artistic eye, because you will adjust how much area you want white). Then spray the whole thing sun yellow. What kind of airbrush? Which paints? What are you thinning them with? How thin? How much PSI are you spraying at? How well did you clean it? Ever let paint dry in it?
  9. That plasma cannon is so weak. It should be more like 2d3 shots and 2 damage base going to 3 damage for supercharge.
  10. My zeal is in the past ... 10k years in the past actually. “New year, new army” has me focused on my 30k Imperial Fists. I slapped that chaplain dread together because it was just one model and worth 11 points to the cause but building a bunch of troops or other stuff right now for the Templars just doesn’t seem feasible for me. Especially since I mainly paint in sub assemblies.
  11. I think the cape looks perfect for a "standing on top of the battlements" pose. Also yes he has a chainsword because its fluffy ... Storm's Teeth "This colossal chainblade, too weighty for any but a Primarch to wield, is said to have been crafted by the weaponsmiths of Inwit before the coming of the Emperor. Its razored teeth can shred metal, stone, and flesh with ease and while the Primarch of the Imperial Fists Legion has many arms at his disposal, some relics of far greater power, it is this blade which has served him faithfully for so long he favours most."
  12. On a table with some decent height terrain I think there is an argument for grapnel and carbine. Come in from an edge ... jump up to a building ignoring vertical distance and just harass away.
