Your work looks amazing! should be proud of that personally I'm a little dismayed at the scale difference, but thats nothing to do with your work. Is it actually such a huge difference or is it a combo of the photo angle, the tactical rock etc and it acutally isnt too big a difference?

I mean, I was deploying 186 militia... I was already filling my deployment zone quite well. But yes, other provenances might have suited me better there. Is it worth it for... 3 squad leaders needing a 6+ to fix and my hq needing a 5+? compared to upgrading autoguns to 18 volkite chargers and 2 culverin?

So I have some initial thoughts, as I played them as an ally to my IW in a 3k game against 2 mates using 1.5k of NL and WE. I lost, badly. I was 2 VP behind at the bottom of turn 3, and we called it for time, I would have likely been tabled turn 4 (with luck) or turn 5 (without luck). I ran a rushed together list, so my synergy wasnt good. Okay, prefixes out the way, my lsit was: commander, warrior elite and legacies of the great crusade. I also took marcher lord to counteract fear. command squad 10 man grenadier 10 man grenadier 20 inf squad 20 inf squad 40 levy 40 levy 40 levy gorgon My list was.... lacklustre. I adsorbed the worst of the incoming pain onto the militia (as is their role as walking sandbags), and they dutifully disintegrated. I had a lack of super killy stuff in my IW and the inability to hold the militia there with enforcers meant I was losing huge swaths without being able to hit back in a meaningful way. I'm looking at now using 6 leman russ vanqs, a 20 man grenadier lifeguard squad with volkite and 2x20 man levy units to clog space a bit, and see if that gives me a more hitty element of a list, but overall, not massively impressed with them. I do massively like my ability to take heavy infantry again though which has allowed me to break out my renegade and heretics list from IA13 thats been in storage for years, so I am enjoying that.

I've been making some lists for a game in a week or so's time, and the only thing thats really bugging me is the single HQ slot in the ally detachment means you cant get a force commander (to unlock the options for customisation), and the enforcers to keep the troops in line. I really wish the enforcers had been an elite option like the medicae. -

Wh40k 10th Edition Rules changes

on the sscoring points /numbers thing, it also keeps the game interesting for longer. Like, if you are 3/4 of the way through a game (where scores are 2 or 3 points per score), then a team getting 75 and the other team getting 30.... its over, stop watching, go home early to beat the rush. If that is 3/4 of the way through and scores are 1 point per score, the scores are 4 against 2... well all of a sudden, that team thats 2 down could do something major to score twice in the last 5 mins and its worth sticking around to watch the rest of the game. At least thats how I've always viewed it -

I can 2nd gamemat EU, Matthias from there has been great for me in the past. I've bought my own 4x4 necromunda mat and love it, and he has also provided mats for several necromunda tournies I've run so would love for him to get support as he has certainly supported the necormunda community in UK. for balance, my local group have a few deepcut ones and they are also lovely, but they were bought in person at conventions so could see them before buying.

So if its mottled, that sounds like (sorry if its teaching you how to suck eggs) you've not shaken the can enough, or you are running low (ie the can is almost empty). Sounds like you are picking up more propellant than varnish when spraying. Shaking the can more should help, I tend to spray (with every can I use) from about 9-12" away. That is for gw, armypainter, halfords, B&M and any other brands, and primer, coloured paint, gloss and matt varnish. I've never used the W&N stuff though, so they might be different? With regards to the frosting or texture you somtimes hear about, that is caused by two factors, one is temp. being too cold, which can cause the paint/varnish to dry before hitting the model (only ever in very light dusting sprays), and more commonly (slightly linked to temp), is humidity. This is the water in the air, which the propellant will cool even more, and the paint or varnish mixing with when travelling through the air, causing the misting or textured finish on the model. Temp will play into this as if it is colder then it can be less humid and still cause a problem than that same humidity at a warmer temp. Finally the best results I've found if I really want to protect models (usually gaming pieces like necromunda or bloodbowl where they are placed prone during gameplay), I will hit with a fairly solid coat of gloss to create a decent protective layer, then a light hit with a matt varnish once it is fully dry to take the shine off the model.

No worries bud! As I say, it was likely because I must have not explained the differences properly (just can never tell if you are being trolled online!).

TBF, you didnt say in your initial post that you had requested a refund or replacement, so following your first post, I would also have said their response seems reasonable (I'd assume if that was their comeback then the initial complaint raised was 'this is nothing like the picture, what can you do to rectify it?' or similar). However, with the extra info that you did request the refund or replacement, yeah thats a proper rubbish response, esp if its taken a while to get them to say anything! Also, wow, thats not a slight colour variation is it!

Okay, thats fair. It was the un-intentional misreading of what I was saying then that was frustrating me. I apologise for not making my point clearer. I am not saying I want the game to be balanced and unbalanced at the same time, I am saying that I want a pick up matched play game to be balanced. at the moment it is so bloated with so many layers of rules that this isnt the case. If by some miracle gw can provide a balanced game where the traits/options/org charts are (more or less) equal, and none of them are trap options, sure keep the billions of combinations that are there. BUT personally I dont see that happening, and the unbalanced/combi options that exist with these multitudes of traits are too much for my player group to bother with. So we dont get games in of matched play. as in, it just doesnt happen. I've had a handful of narrative ones but thats it. I want to game. I want to play 40k, therefore I want less options because it makes it easier for gw to balance these for there to be less trap options that make for one sided games. hopefully that makes sense. Also, as an aside, the reason you got the confused response from me was because you are selectively quoting me and mis representing what I said. I could do the same (I was very tempted to instead of just replying above with I disagree), as you want lots of layers of rules, but then dismiss crusade as too much to keep track of and janky. thats because you have a level of complexity you are happy with, and thats fine, but I could easily have cherry picked those parts of your post back to you and you'd have probably given me a confused response too, because its not what you meant either.
-
I can't work out if you are intentionally trolling/strawmaning me, so I'm just going to say I disagree with you and leave it there.
-
thats fair. I'm not attached to any one option, but as a whole I want there to be less, so keeping traits would be fine, or keeping a primary and secondary objective would be fine, I just dont like the everything stacking on each other as its too much.
-
And I'm saying all of that as a 'what I would prefer/like', I dont influence the game design, and me voicing my opinion on what I would like doesnt mean I owe you anything, so me saying I want the game to go back to one original force org chart... is jsut that, what I would want. I don't mind if the more varied charts are completly eradicated and you lose all your options, makes no odds to me. But I was suggesting how it could work with them in narrative as a 'what might give us both a way to play how we would want'
-
erm, no. I didnt say that at all. I'm saying when we do a pick up matched play game, it isnt balanced, so isnt fun (because we expect to be able to pick up a fun balanced (ish) game). When we actually play crusade of a narrative game, we find it fun, and we've gone into it knowing it isnt going to be a perfectly balanced game but thats our expectation, hence, still enjoy it. So I'm saying strip matched play back to a smaller set of more balanced options, and leave the narrative with all the weird and wonderful excessive layers of traits, force orgs, bonuses, etc etc etc as options because narrative isnt needing to be balanced. Some of them can be crazy strong, other weaker, it doesnt matter, but it leaves the matched play options 'more' balanced than it currently is.
