love the old fashioned goblin green bases. Do you have a pot of the OG or are you using a comparable colour? -

The problem with lost brethren detachment is the assumption you need it to run death company armies, you dont at all, and i think thats its biggest failing, its not unique or good enough. Rerolling ones to wound is given in angelic inheritors and since most DC units want a character nearby there is no over the top tax that AI is often critiqued for. Sure lost brethren gives DC battleline, which gives the option of MSU, but im not sure you need more than three units of each unit anyway. The enhancements are fairly decent, no game breakers though, strats are a little meh imo, final retribution is good and glorious sacrifice can change a game though. This assumption aside, I actually dont think DC armies are terrible, astorath giving his unit dev wounds and permanent final retribution equivalent is cool, plus he has precision for character hunting. Lemartes is fire, auto include imo. DC dreads are decent, under LB they would get rerolls to hit and wound assuming chaplain within 12" and you could run some ballistus dreads to cover for the lack of anti tank (outside of meltas on DC dreads). DC captains not getting the -1CP on strats is a loss, but i understand the point of them being too crazed to think strategically. I think visions of heresy make up for this somewhat and the new changes to DC characters and black rage is fairly decent. I think we run the risk of flying off into DC armies/units rather than just the detachment though. Honestly i think DC armies would fare much better using LAG. Lost bretehren needs a mix up to make people use it imo.

the only issue i see is lack of action monkey units. By that i mean whos scoring objectives and performing actions to win you the game. Scouts are great for this as they can up and down, but even a 5 man unit with JP or a unit of bikes etc can be helpful for this. -

Great start, well done. id also echo a thin wash, you can tailor the wash you use to the color you want to achieve too, Mr Cordova above has mentioned the fleshshade, this gives a nice reddy gold as does using seraphim sepia (my fave), alternatively for a darker more bronzy effect you could use agrax or even nuln oil. once your happy using washes, you can then start building on this by painting highlights. -

As an Ultramarines player for as long as i can remember i opted for a different type of project when i returned to 40k, deciding on a BA successor chapter called the Bat Eaters. The name derives from the group of tournament players i hang with. In terms of back story, these are a successor chapter of the BA who were wiped out during the devastation of Baal and re established with all Primaris marines. So barring some leftover equipment, all models in the army will be Primaris. They come from a hiveworld, that has a species of giant predatory bat that hunts and feeds on large animals/mammals, which occasionally means humans. In order to prove themselves space marine aspirants had to hunt and kill one unarmed or with whatever weapons they could fashion from nature. These giant bats whilst dangerous, were so large they were considered a source of food when harvests were poor (hence the chapters name). Which created a symbiotic relationship between the bats and local population. The general idea i have is that tyranid spores destroyed the eco-system of their world, creating geological instability, lava flows, where the wildlife does grow it grows out of control. And existing predators mutate into something more deadly. Any humans that survived were able to seeks refuge in remaining hive cities, but the bats became an ever increasing threat. Anyway onto the models, i have very slowly started painting. All of the bases represent their homeworld, an established imperial world, ravaged by lava flows C+C welcome, i hope to add more in due course.

Interesting thread. personally i stick with the 'purged and forgotten' idea. i think its fairly likely one of the lost legions had genetic instability and was purged by space wolves. i have my own theory about the forgotten though, and bear with me, its wild. I believe he was the proto star child, who during the scattering by chaos was transported back in time to 7000BC and taken in by some tribespeople/farmers from Anatolia. There is no solid lore on Big E creation, its largely accepted that a bunch of early human psykers banded together in suicide to create a singular soul that could defeat the daemons preying on them post death in the warp. However a soul in the warp doesnt just get born again without help from the mortal side, regardless of their strength, otherwise other fallen Primarches and even chaos gods could do it. Interestingly human psykers didnt really appear again until the end of the 22nd millenium, so this creation story itself could be a cover story, or represent the only human psykers dying out and going extinct, it could be said that the emperor recreated the pysker gene in humanity later on. Its possible via telepathic communion with his 30k counterpart whilst in the incubation tube, he had a rough idea of what he needed to do, had the cheat codes so to speak up until the creation of the primarches, which is when everything started to fall apart (*his cheat code book ended). I believe the psykers death-coalescence in 7000BC kick started the birth of the star child and much like the three chaos gods who were young and weaker back then, grew into his power slowly, however this universal creation left a marker on the universe, which acted as a teleport homer of sorts dragging one of the lost primarches back in time as they were scattered. I believe this is similar to the birth of slaanesh and explains why there is an opening to the webway on earth (mini version of the creation of the eye or terror). However im getting ahead of myself a little, you see the 30k pact between big E and the chaos gods, between mortal realm and the chaos realm allowed for the creation of the primarches, his mortal technology and perfect genetic code allowed for their bodies to be formed, but their souls were likely lesser warp gods, and the pact allowed for the two to be combined. What if the star child sneaked his way in? I also believe that's way we consider this primarch the "forgotten", Malcador erased everyone's mind to hide the true identity of big Es child form, as true names of greater beings, give you some power over them, and this would explain why Dorn "understood" the need to wipe their minds. The star child aspect comes in next, Big E isnt the star child himself, hes a proto version like a caterpillar, he has to die and be reunited with the souls of his human offspring, to grow more powerful and become the true anathema to chaos in the warp. I believe this recombination will create a new being as big Es mind has been twisted by being fuel for the astronomicon for too long. This theory also allows for some primarch souls to be reborn, such as sanguinius and ferrus manus. as their god-like souls wouldnt have been consumed by daemons in the warp, they are too powerful. Just need a fabius bile/fulgrim cloning, or erebus/cyrene chaos deal to make this happen. Feel free to tear this apart though. I enjoy these discussions.

I had my first tournament with blood angels yesterday, 3 games at 1k, bit of a strange points value. I went with the following list: Angelic inheritors: Sanguinor Captain with storm shield/sword (with sternguard) Chaplain (with BGV) 2 x 5 assault intercessor 6 bladeguard 3 eradicator 5 scouts 5 sternguard Ballistus dreadnought. Game one vs imperial fists first company detachment (Search and destroy, burden of trust, swift action). Opponent had two units of terminators, one led by captain, other with librarian, 10 sternguard and 5 sternguard, 5 assault intercessors and an allied unit ive not seen before, but man they had a shed load of flame weapons (8 i think). My opponent didnt really know how to handle my ballistus and he took some early wounds, i sent a unit of assault intercessors into each corner to try and take control of each objective, whilst scouts and BGV wrestled with the centre objective. BGV tanked a lot of damage and took out the allied unit and 5 sternguard to control middle objective. His ten sterngaurd wiped out my assault unit on the right and i opted to leave it alone, instead controlling the left flank and centre. His terminators ands captain came down to take on dreadnought, but failed the charge (with rr), the other terminators appeared close to my sternguard. However with so much in reserve, i already had full battlefield control, inc up and down on scouts to take his home objective. A last ditch attempt in T3 to take the centre from the BGV resulted in sanguinor appearing and levelling the terminator squad and blunting his attack. 47-33 win to me. Only played 3 turns before running out of time, 1.5 hours per game was tight as there's still alot of paperwork involved Game two vs dark angels librarian conclave (dawn of war, scorched earth, raise banners). Opponent had a large unit of sternguard with librarian, 6 bladeguard and ezekial? in repulsor, azrael and a large unit of badass looking sword dudes and a unit of scouts. I made my opponent drop first with less units i was able to outdeploy fairly easily (dropped scouts and 2 x 5 assault intercessors down in cover and the decided what to do. I gave up the right flank, leaving azrael and sword chaps out of the game and focussed on the other side. My opponent went first and killed my ballistus in one volley from the sternguard, ouch. But failed a 7 charge on my scouts with BGV who dismounted. i focussed everything on the BGV, charging with my own to wipe them out. In turn two my BGV were reduced to two but i was able to then focus on the sternguard and take full control of the board. My opponent had an early VP lead burning central objective, i went into T3 20pts behind and running out of time. Sanguinor swooped down and burned opponents homefield objective, i scored two others and held the centre of the board to take 22 pts in T3 winning the game 36-34. Azraels unit didnt even get to take part. Game three vs astra militarum (crucible of battle, take and hold, adapt or die). Opponent had a tank formation, leman russ with autocannons, rogal dorn commander, two chimers with kasrkin inside, and two sentinels. Heres the bad part, we had the most open board ive ever seen, i had almost no cover, so deployed as close as i could hoping to take first turn and run into cover in the mid table. Not to be. Opponent took first turn and pretty much destroyed BGV and eradicators, it was downhill from there, pretty much wiped out T3 losing 68-24. Bad dice (oponent rolling hot) and no cover really ruined that game, was a bitter pill on top table at the end of the day, STC terrain would have really helped me, but alas small indy events dont always have that. 2 wins and a loss, not bad considering I've only had one practice game with them. Sternguard are great and 40pts more expensive per ten that basic intercessors is worth it for the dev wounds, and stackability of sustained hits and rerolls makes this even better, im going to take ten myself at 2k with the captain. Im really digging angelic inheritors, i roll alot of ones, and had several noteable combats where a chaplain rolled 3 or 4 ones only to reroll into 100% hits. edit: I also think judiciar is better than chaplain with the BGV, as i was running them on foot and more likely to take a charge, striking first can blunt an attack. plus AI have a 1CP strat for lethal hits and lance if needed.
