Thanks. That was the look i wanted. The idea is it's a very long serving Fellblade and it's been around since the reconquest of Terra. I've the eagles head and lightning bolt honor to it along with some devotional text. Photos will be arriving soon.

After undercoating and pre-weathering everything got a good coat of gloss varnish, followed by AK Worn Effects. Once you put paint on top of the Worn Effects you need to give it about 30-60 minutes for the paint to get tacky. Then using brushes, water and an old tooth brush you can remove some of the paint - in my case reveal the undercoat in selected area. If anyone wants to try this you must use the gloss varnish underneath, of you don't you'll burn the undercoat off too. Start slowly as you can always do multiple passes. After that I was left with a Fellblade that has definitely seen action.

I've had a lot of success using chipping fluid and will be using it on this project. I've been experimenting with pre-weathering to provide a range of textures that show through once the chips are applied. The whole model was primed with Jenolite Primer Filler. I've used it for some fdm prints and found it reasonable for the cost. Then focusing on the tracks, steps and edges I used a very wet "drybrush" building up Rhinox Hide, Mournfang Brown and Wild Rider Red in progressively smaller areas. The tracks and vents where then masked before applying AK gloss varnish and AK Worn Effects with my airbrush.

I've been exploring a more realistic grimdark style for my more recent projects. To get a nice variation on the large armour panels it's important to have variation in the textures. I've used AK Terrains Muddy Ground and AK Corrosion Texture to create what you see in the images. If anyone is unfamiliar with the products, Muddy Ground is pretty much synthetic mud and Corrosion Texture has a fine sandy texture to simulate the why metal swells and flakes when it rusts. I've tried to concentrate the weathering where it would naturally occur.

Lord Sondar posted a blog entry in Sons of Horus Fellblade
I've been focused on the Horus Heresy since before we had official rules, back in the distant darkness of the Black Books. I set my sights on saving up for a Fellblade to be a nice centre piece model. I almost had one twice but real life got in the way. Fourteen years and two children later, I've finally got my hands on one! I've worked for the same company since 2006 and I was pleasantly surprised to find out there's a long service award after twenty years. I decided a Fellblade would be the perfect keepsake and fill a nice super heavy void for my growing Sons of Horus collection. Servitium Tempus - Long Service. I've done quite a bit of work so far and snapped a few photos. -
John Blanche has passed away
Lord Sondar replied to Petitioner's City's topic in + NEWS, RUMORS, AND BOARD ANNOUNCEMENTS +
I like others have been greatly inspired by John. I learnt about the Zorn palette, limited the number of colours I use to paint my miniatures and more recently have started to explore my own take on a more gritty realistic style. I've also enjoyed watching or reading interviews John has kindly given over the years. Thank you, the bell does indeed toll for the loss of a mighty hero today. -

Well they're on the shopping list now. Some of best models I've seen for a long time, loads of potential for magos conversions. -
Original Greenstuff appears to be gone...

For anyone thinking about stockpiling greenstuff, it doesn't have a very long shelf life. But can last longer if you keep it in the freezer. I'm not a big user and everytime I need some it's set rock hard. -

Thanks for sharing these. I'm currently painting my long planned Sons of Horus, four years in the bits collecting. I've found some of the ideas quite inspiring, especially some of the alternative pouldron colours. -

And this is why a lot of gamers have stopped playing 40k altogether. It's too focused on the competitive game side of things. I suspect this has a lot to do with a way to make money and choke 3d printed miniatures as you can enforce official sculpts only at a tournament. I'm not going to say it's a bad thing persay. I'm not a competitive gamer and am much more modeling and painting first. I just suspect it's going to take more of a rock, paper, scissors format going forwards.

New Edition, or Just Horus Hearsay?
Lord Sondar replied to Marshal Loss's topic in + WARHAMMER: THE HORUS HERESY +
I think someone is very feverishly writing an updated pdf as we speak too. But well never know. I actually felt a physical weight lifted from my shoulders. I've been building my Blood Angels since before the Black Books so I have a few more esoteric models in my collection. -
New Edition, or Just Horus Hearsay?
Lord Sondar replied to Marshal Loss's topic in + WARHAMMER: THE HORUS HERESY +
I think this might sum a lot of it up. Heresy was driven by two factors people who wanted to recreate the characters and units we read about in the Black Library and people would didn't like the way 40k was heading. I'm primarily a builder and painter but like to make lore accurate models. I do game but not as much as I build and paint. I'm going to pick up the new rules but will continue to make whatever fits my head canon. If my consol wants a different weapon set that's okay for me. -

Lord Sondar replied to Marshal Loss's topic in + WARHAMMER: THE HORUS HERESY +
I've alternated between music and miniatures. I think I've spent more on guitars still over the last 25 years. I've probably spent more time painting minis and reading lore though. Are people thinking of getting the Saturnine box? I'm not sold on the dreadnought or gun emplacement. So, I'm going for the books for now and will pick up some minis as required. It's a lot of money to lay out for Libers when you have loyalists, traitors, mechanicum and a planned milita army (minis have been purchased). -

I'd totally forgotten I owe these, whoops. Fortunately, I have managed to play my first two games of 2.0 this month. Just in time to start preparing for 3.0.
