  1. hmm, yeah, i did consider it, but this is my...3rd? 4th? yeah 4th, marine army, and i wanted to build towards a different detachment than the others so it doesn't feel like i'm just playing the same thing painted differently. My other armies don't really fit into Firestorm, but this one will with minimal effort, so to keep the play-styles different it made more sense for me to do it this way. Being able to advance and shoot thanks to army-wide [Assault] on all their guns will also help with mobility on all those terminators since im not fielding transports at 2000pts.
  2. =][= Let's not skew this thread off topic with cyclical arguments over how GW does or doesn't run their business model. Or by starting to take jabs at each other to try and get some zinger in at the end of a point being made that has nothing to do with the opening post of this thread. =][=
  3. So here's my thoughts on a list trying to combine both DW and RW together. I think the new terminators look cool, and there's the nostalgia and all that. But i feel like with how scoring works in 10th, they need something fast mixed in to help with objectives. And hey, look at that, we got Ravenwing. The detachments outlined in the DW Assault box's S.E. Supplement seem nice, but don't overly strike me as being good for a mixed force of the two companies. So i looked through the main astartes ones and decided on Firestorm Assault Force. Not familiar? it makes all your ranged weapons gain the [Assault] rule, so you can Advance and Shoot. It also makes any shooting within 12" gain +1 S. This one seems to benefit both types of units the most, since it'll help the DW be more mobile, definitely boosts the bikers for grabbing objectives early. Plus having +1S on all your guns once you get to that optimum 12" range where rapid fire is also gonna kick in is a nice boost do alot of your attacks. Here's the list so far, which is just using models i already own: I'm thinking of what to use the last 210pts on. so far i'm leaning to more bikers. possibly another Command Squad and 3 knights; or do 6 more knights, and keep myself open to either splitting them or sticking together; depending on the scenario's requirements. that'd be 200pts or 180pts respectively. or, as i'm typing this it occurs to me, i drop the outriders, take 2 more squads of 3 black knights, and a second Command Squad. That'd change my Mounted lists to the following: and that would bring the list up to an even 2000pts. this also would make better use of the chaplain's Catechism of Fire ability, since he could attach to one of the units and give the plasma talons [Devastating Wounds] vs a visible target within 12".
  4. your points are still wrong for what's in the box; Cannoness (1 model) - 60pts Battle Sister Squad (10 models) - 110pts Repentia squad (5 models) - 75pts Arco-flagellants (3 models) - 45pts Seraphim squad (5 models) - 70pts Penitent Engine (1 model) - 60pts Sororitas Rhino (1 model) - 80pts that comes out to exactly 500pts using the point values from the MUNITORUM FIELD MANUAL - VERSION 1.2 pdf on the official site at the time of writing this. addendum - all of the Combat Patrol boxes come out to exactly 500pts with the new point values for 10th edition. this was done purposely when they were making the point values and reboxing the starter box sets for all the factions.
  5. yes, looks like the announcement of what the 3 game sizes, 1000, 2000, and 3000pts, the table size recommendations are now 60x44 for games up to 2000pts, and 90x44 for games 3000pts.
  6. As has been pointed out, i'm leaning to believing they'll stick to the current 60x44 size, because of the reason for why GW reduced the sizing. Since it makes it easier to play on smaller kitchen tables, and gets the more 'codex adherent' players to begrudgingly agree to play on that smaller board size because they see the numbers in the BRB and go with it. And there's nothing wrong with that mindset either; people see an actual specified number in the book, and stick to that for the sake of consistency and avoiding people accusing foul play by making the table an odd shape to get some sort of advantage for their specific faction; whether the advantage is real or just perceived due to being out-played by your opponent that game. I also imagine they have a substantial stock of paper, hardboard, and neoprene mats in the new size they'd like to unload at MRSP first before they consider another board size change again. When those taper off, that'd be the more telling indication of a change happening again; as that was sort of hinted at when the Realm of Battle sets became harder to find as well. In my case, i had built a table for the 6x4 Realm of Battle tiles, with a shallow trim around the entire table that kept the tiles from sliding around back in 7th. And while i've thought of possibly redoing the entire thing and making it 60x44, having that extra 12 inches off to one side to stage reinforcements, your kill pool, dice/dice towers, your rule books, etc, is so convenient that it's kept me from actually going through with the idea. My own table now imitates the ones at my LGS, where those were all made back in 5th to be 8x4 for apocalypse games. those are all played down to 60x44 and the excess is kept for placing all your gaming accessories somewhere off the playing area. And the gaming group that funds and maintains the terrain and tables have 6 FATMATs or whatever the current name is for that brand, with masking tape marking off the new playing dimensions in case they ever want to upsize to 6x4 again.
  7. funny coming across this, i was just binging the special edition trilogy last night. i think your initial scheme will make some people confused, as it looks too similar to Trans-hyperian alliance. anyone who has trouble with color recognition/color blindness might mistake it for THA. plus i dunno if you'd be one of the few with the patience to sit and paint that much yellow; it's something that discourages alot of would-be imperial fist players afterall. now that said, if we explore the colors you found for their jumpsuits, you could go this way: option 1 being the top row, where the cloth changes based on their roles, matching the colors you found. Option 2, bottom row, is based roughly on what i recall being used in the comics years ago when they wore their space suits. but the ones im recalling used a....i think it was an orangey color for the plate because it was a rescue/recovery team. but the cloth and stripes are done otherwise the same. and their helmets had a matching thick stripe down the middle. my personal taste would be the bottom row guys.
  8. Wanted to thank you guys again for the help, and show the resulting test mini so far now that the 3 main colors are done.
  9. Oh okay, I was reading the article on goonhammer from 2020 and it said he was a forced include for CoB. Did that get changed then? Or did they mess that up
  10. Hmm, okay. One point though; if I understand it right, if you take CoB, aren't you required to take bile and make him the warlord? Or is it IF he's in the list, he's auto warlord?
  11. thanks for the advice guys. i'm thinking i'm gonna go with a word bearers kinda scheme. since i've got the paints for that one already, it's gonna be the easiest at this time.
  12. What do creations of bile look like btw? I haven't seen any pics when I try to Google them, mostly just find pics of Fabius.
  13. Hey guys, So i subscribed to the Warhammer Imperium magazine, and my first "premium gift" showed this month, which was the chaos marines set. it comes with a sorcerer, 2 greater possessed, and 10 legionnares with an autocannon, plasma gun, champion with chainaxe and plasma pistol, 3 with bolters, and 4 with chainswords. now, the gift box comes with a full paint guide for black legion, but im not sure if i wanna go with them, or pick another legion from the core codex. my question, is which would be a good fit for what comes in the box? i'm not sure if ill add to the set, apart from maybe a box of possessed to bump it up to 500pts. it'll mainly be something for small combat patrol scale games at home. my choices so far from a rules stance, and color choices, would be either Black Legion, Night Lords, Red Corsairs, or Word Bearers.
  14. true, but with their rules including relentless, you have the option of them being geared like vanguard or sternguard veterans. and being able to move and shoot when youre carrying a gun with Heavy 1, Sniper, Pinning is nice to have in the event you gotta reposition the unit and dont wanna waste your shots.
  15. I might play with the numbers a bit to try to fit that many. I did fiddle with it and made them have 2, but I forget where I got the pts from. Been trying to catch up on my backlog of warhammer imperium models to teach my niece with, so I havent spent much time on this. But I do plan to circle back to this soon as I can.
