Tell us on what occasion you have been priced out by GW
Uprising replied to Deus_Ex_Machina's topic in + AMICUS AEDES +
I been pondering this topic for a bit, and here is my 2 cents I have less been priced out (even though I had sticker shock with the new Deathwatch kill team, 5 models for $80), and more I have better things to do with my time / I have enough of a collection. When I first started this game, I was completely GW only. After trying a few games (and frankly growing up from my teenage years), I found much more joy in playing other games (Battletech, Blkout, Turnip28, etc) or just painting models I like. I been going to more skirmish base games, then army games (which does help the wallet). With how life is going, I have less time (working multiple jobs, and owning a small business), which does not help having to paint hundreds of models (I love horde armies). At this point, I rather just focus on smaller projects, than multiple massive 10,000 pt armies project for a game I actually do not like or have time to play anymore, nor want to read about (I still like to paint atleast). Final and main point, I think I am just getting old and Jaded (which is bad for my twenties). I rarely get excited anymore (Grand Cathay was a rare exception), and buying more things in my life makes me depress and sick. TLDR: Instead of collecting everything, I been focusing on a few projects that I care for deeply. -
Lord of Silence. One of the few book that changed my life for the better.

I bought a small Dark eldar army back in 2020, but never did anything with it. In 2025 and 2026, I am downsizing all my collection due to multiple reasons. Dark eldar sadly, was picked to be sold, but I have decided to keep the small amount of models that included Haemonculi Covens (3 Talos, 1 Haemonculi, 15 Wracks, and bitz) as they are my favorite part of the range. My question is, how likely would a small band of exile Haemonculi Covens (From the Dark Creed), just living in real space with some Slaanesh Night lords who view them as useful enough to eat them last. How crazy is this?

I will start getting something written up for this, since there is some interest. Suggestion welcome (Will probably post in the WIP when ready).

This topic came out of a conversion with N1SB as we both like to talk about economics and financial documents, and a saying I been hearing for years "You know, if I had bought GW shares instead of their miniatures,". I was wondering if there would be a interest in an event next year where instead of buying the new shiny models (which sits on a shelf for years), we paint what we have, and be responsible with our hobby funding and lives. The rules would be simple: State a monthly budget for the hobby Stick to the budget Post the models you buy (or have on hand already) and by the end of year post the work you completed. Any left over budget money, invest or save (does not have to be GW stock) Just a laid back event where member coach and keep each other accountable not only for our hobby but in personal life (I have seen so many people go into debt / bankruptcy for this hobby). So, is there any interested? Disclaimer: Never take investment advice from strangers on the internet, especially people who like Chaos. Learn how to manage your own money or seek out a professional who can give you personalized financial services. This event is just an idea / hobby event, and if you copy me and lose or gain the money, you have nobody to blame but yourself.

Berserker Surgeon? Real or Fake.

If this actually turn out to be real, I want my 8 dollar bill. -
A bit of a fun topic. Let say your stuck for the rest of your life on an island and can have only 10 Black library novels. Which top ten would you pick?

Why so expensive?
-
I recently decided to downsize my life, so I decided to start selling off my black Library due to falling out of love with 40k lore (Only keeping The lord of Silence and Night lord trilogy). While comparing prices, I discovered, I have several books that are going for $100 to $200, even a few $300 (looking at you Sythes of the empereor). Why are these book so expensive? Is it as simple as supply and demand or something out? I am surpised to say the least as I don't need the money (Honestly was just going to throw the novels away at first).

Tell me the saga of 3rd/3.5 edition
Uprising replied to Uprising's topic in + WARHAMMER 40,000 GAME +
First, I want to say thank you to everyone who replied to this thread. This was great insight and I even started opening a few of my old 3rd ed codexes I have (got them cheap from a friend who left the hobby). I am extremely impressed by the tyranid, Chaos, and eye of terror books. I think it is time to start hobbying on a 3rd ed army. Thank you again to everyone for replying. More replies are welcome. One thing I did not see mention was standard game size and army size back in the day. Thoughts? -

I noticed something weird while looking at the new Traitor Guardsmen Squad (The old blooded killteam), and noticed the miniatures are paint up as iron warriors colors, which is new. Odd, but may be a clue as this is a "new" kit. https://www.warhammer.com/en-US/shop/chaos-space-marines-traitor-guardsmen-squad-2025?queryID=ec0991393a878ce1c0250ae20f37bd88

I started the hobby when 4th ed was rolling over to 5th edition. I been hearing alot lately about many hobbyist, including those in my group thinking of moving back to 3rd/3.5 edition. What is the appeal? What was the drawback of the edition? How big where the armies model wise / point wise on average? I have a few codexes and the rulebook from the era, and it seems simple, yet highly customizable narrative game. Thoughts?
