  1. I'm happy you all like the Rhino, and thanks to Firedrake for making me remember it's a cupola! Never was any good at tank anatomy. With that said, I finished up the retro Vindicator. It's a hefty little tank. A fair bit of it is metal, and like the Dreadnought, I'll always be a bit scared of dropping it. It being an older model, it is a bit smaller than the current Rhino kit, but considering I don't have to pretend it fits 10 whole Marines, I'm okay with it. I actually really like the older style of Marine vehicles, they had a certain charm. I almost wish I had more tanks lying around, I'm impressed with how fast I knocked both these out and want to continue with that pace. Probably more Berzerkers to come.
  2. The way you've painted the second sisters blue cloth looks so good. Very painterly, reminds me of canvas work.
  3. I've somehow managed to hit a good stride with my painting and finished the Rhino for Second Claw. Nothing fancy, I've always struggled with painting vehicles so I made sure I actually got this one finished instead of going crazy with the paintjob. Overall this took me about two days, though I could easily spend much longer on it. I am pretty happy with how the red lenses on the canopy came out, it was a good way to add a splash of red to the model, which all my Night Lords have. It does look a little small even next to just 3 Marines, but I suppose scale has always been a little wacky for 40k's vehicles. Either way, I'm happy to have the armies first tank finished. I'm currently working on the retro-Vindicator, and hope to finish that over the weekend.
  4. Honestly, I totally agree. I was pretty happy with the model when I built him but coming back to him almost 10 years later I'm sort of eh. Like, he's fine! He works! He's big and chunky and is easily readable as a Terminator Lord. But the model is much rougher than I'd like, the composition is a bit off, and yeah, that exposed arm just isn't working for me. I could have swapped it, but I would have had to redo that whole section but I didn't want to spend hours working on a model I'd already decided was going to be a subservient character and no longer the Warbands leader. Hopefully the actual Lord of the warband impresses you more than this slave-knight
  5. Slave-Knight Tor'vek Chaos Terminator Lord Iron Hound of Kalixus, Last of the Quintarchy, Curse Bearer. -------- +All the hate and loathing of the Imperium reflected in one of its many damned sons. His oaths and honour keep him obedient, but corruption will make a ruin of such nobility. -------- +Ten thousand wars, an eternity of blood, power beyond mortal comprehension. All wasted, cast aside in a vain attempt to recapture a former glory. Where once a knight stood, now only shame remains.+ -------- Wasn't expecting to knock out another model so soon, but inspiration struck and I ran with it. While I originally had built him as THE Chaos Lord of the warband, the release of the Khorne Lord on Juggernaut and my own fickle whims have since demoted him. Still, for a model I built years ago, possibly a decade, I'm pretty happy with the results. Thanks! I'm really happy with all those details, the bat winged helms especially. A lot of people assume they're 3d printed, which I find amusing. I'll have to keep an eye on your Night Lords, I'd love to see more poeple use the hot pink/magenta look for Plasma weapons. One of these days I'll have to do a tutorial for it! I decided to look that up and it's beautiful! I had no idea, I picked the colour based entirely on my memory of the 200-whatever Space Marine game, where Chaos had something similar. It looked so striking to me that I decided whenever I got around to my Night Lords, I'd use it as inspiration. 10 years later and I'm really happy with that choice.
  6. Thanks for the kind words, I'm really happy to hear that everyone else is as happy with Kaygil as I am, especially the base. It was a bit of work to sculpt but definitely worth the effort. I'll be working on another Eldar lady soon now that Krethusa is going up for pre-order next week. Very excited about her, but for now I have another Night Lord to show off. I painted this hefty lad over the course of the weekend. He's not my best work, the conversion work isn't up to my current standard, but I'm still kinda pleased to have him finished. -Slave-Knight Tor'vek- -Chaos Terminator Lord- -Iron Hound of Kalixus, Last of the Quintarchy, Curse Bearer- -------- Originally I had this model built as The Chaos Lord of the army, but between the time I had him built and actually working on this army. a few ideas of the warband had changed, as well as what I wanted the warbands leader to be and look like. I didn't want to give the model up entirely, so he got demoted. For those curious, he was built using the old Obliterator legs and a Grey Knight Torso with plenty of sculpting and lots of bitz from various kits, like Cataphtactii shoulders and an arm, an AOS Khorne Lord for the other arm, and Cursed City bats for some flair. Here's a size comparison with a regular Legionary and a Terminator, plus a photo showing off Kaygils height, who manages to stand a bit taller than a Marine, mostly thanks to the way she's walking and her massive hair. While I wait for the lovely Raven to be released, I'll be finally working on some armour for the Night Lords. First off is an old school Vindicator, from 2nd or 3rd edition, I think? I inherited it from a friend, and while I was tempted to give it to some loyalists, I figured my Night Lords could use some heavy support. And finally a classic of any Marine army, the humble Rhino. I've always had a soft spot for these, even if I'm awful at painting vehicles. They're so boxy and sturdy looking, its everything I want from a tank. Of course I added some Nostroman flair to it, with some chains and skulls to break up the large flat panels.
  7. Thanks! I've always found it odd that the forces of Chaos still have a disdain for Xenos allies. Like, one on hand I get it, the Imperiums indoctrination runs deep, but on the other I always wondered what some Marines and Warbands would look like if they got over that particular phobia. I'm really excited to share more on that aspect of the warband, but I'm waiting to finish the Chaos Lord before spilling the beans.
  8. Not a massive selection by any means, I sadly didn't hold onto most of the models from when I started in the hobby, but I've managed to grab a few classics recently. Most of these a part of my Chaos Marine Collection, they seemed to have a ton of amazing models.
  9. +The Long War continues. We have waged it for an eternity. It is all we know.+ -------- +This world is dying. It chokes on the ash of its charred corpse as the fire burns out. The defenders had stood little chance, for all their bravery and prayers. They had been annihilated by a nightmare more ancient then they could understand. Those that remain will fuel our eternal war, as currency or labour or sport. Only embers will remain.+ -------- Kaygil Jathea Corsair Queen Lord of the Crimson Tongue, Gladiatrix, Bride of Eternal Night. -------- +She is blood drenched silk. A blade dragged across virgin skin. She revels in the sadistic cruelty of her kind, feeding off of it. A thing of sensual torment. She maims and slaughters a path through any foe as if it were an intimate dance. She longs to feel their last breath upon her skin, hear their final words whispered in her ear, to taste hot arterial blood on her lips.+ -------- +We have courted Eldar pirates to prey on the Imperium, trading our currency of flesh for their embrace. Traitors to our species. Desperation has changed us all, but none can judge us. We know we are damned.+ -------- Lord Kharon Chaos Sorcerer Wytch Blood, Midnight Seer, Ferryman. -------- +We have waged endless wars on countless worlds. We have slain unknown and unnamed Xenos horrors and Legion-kin alike. Bound Daemons to our will, sacrificed our humanity, sold our souls, all to kill a dying empire. We must follow it into oblivion, for our sins are uncounted.+ -------- Second Claw - The Huntsmen, led by Lady Eileen the Crow Chaos Legionaries Brotherhood of a dead world, Orphans of a mad Father. The Warbands truest warriors. -------- +They are a dark reflection of the Imperiums angels. Many have grown cold, bitter. They resent fate. The war we must wage. Our own failings and the failings of our fathers. It is they who bear the weight of the humanities sins. They who have become our forefathers deepest fears. Creatures of the void, descending upon humanity to murder and ravage and enslave.+ -------- Fourth Claw - The Charnal Host, led by Champion Augustus Khorne Berzerkers Eaters of Worlds. Berserkers. Their devotion to the War God is absolute, their butchery and slaughter unrivalled. -------- +Blood. They scream for it, raging like heartbroken children. Thirsting for it, eternally.+ -------- Centurion Chaos Dreadnought A wretched son of the Legion brought to madness, a dying husk driven by hate and failure. -------- +The growl of engines. The heavy tread of the machine and the roar of Astartes weaponry. The stink of oil and the scent of ash on the wind. Mechanized warfare.+ -------- Cult of the Red Angel - led by Champion Varrus Chaos Raptors Drinkers of blood and eaters of flesh, carrion in all but name. Though they remain loyal, the sin of their cannibalism cannot be ignored. -------- +We raid and ravage the world's of the Imperium like the nightmares of Old Night. Enslaving those we do not kill, plundering their resources and riches. We have become everything our species once feared. We are the dead.+ -------- -VENEK'TOR NOX- -LORDS OF THE END TIMES- - Lord on Juggernaut Kaygil Jathea - Corsair Queen Lord Charon - Chaos Sorcerer Slave-Knight Tor'vek - Terminator Lord -SLAVES TO DARKNESS- First Claw, The Ashen Lords - Chaos Terminators Second Claw, The Huntsmen - Chaos Legionaries Third Claw, Vilebloods - Chaos Legionaries Fourth Claw, The Charnal Host - Khorne Berzerkers Centurion - Chaos Dreadnought Cult of the Red Angel - Chaos Raptors -AUXILIARIES- Banshee Queens Forge-born -------- I figured it was about time I start working through the lore of my warband. Despite being a recent-ish project, I've been bouncing ideas around for a Night Lords army for about a decade, ever since seeing Dan the Demons amazing project and reading Soul Hunter. (take a shot every time that inspired a NL army, good god) While the Night Lords are known for being godless atheists, my own party of heretics are falling to the Blood God thanks to the influence of some World Eaters and my own love for the Lord of Skulls. I have a rough layout for the warband, not including special additions like Khârn/Abaddon/Angron, as they're fun side projects but not part of the warbands story. A couple squads will be expanded, both the Raptors and Berzerkers, and I'd like to add some vehicles to the mix, but for the most part, that's pretty much the army. The current star is, of course, Kaygil. She represents a years long desire to give the Night Lords some friends in the form of sadistic murder elves. I always thought they would get along. Plus, it gave me the chance to indulge in my love for both Eldar Pirates and warrior women. She's very singular, standing out nicely among the Night Lords and World Eaters. I doubt I'll be painting more Eldar, but she represents a xenos presence in the warband and fleet and I'm very happy with the finished model. She has an interesting relationship with the Lord of the warband, but more on them when GW releases the Nightmare set and I can finish the model. More to come, though updates will be less frequent than my WIP thread so don't get too excited. Happy hunting, heretics
  10. An old school Chaos Dread for my Night Lords. He weighs a ton and I'm terrified of dropping him, but it's a great model.
  11. -Kaygil Jathea- -Corsair Queen- -Lord of the Crimson Tongue, Gladiatrix, Bride of Eternal Night- -------- For a model I painted up over the course of a day, I'm quite pleased with the result. I tried to go for a visually striking scheme, minimizing the amount of colours and really leaning into the reds. She looks quite nice next to the Night Lords. I'd like to give her a small squad of Eldar friends at some point, but for now I'm happy just to have her finished. Her partner and the Night Lords leader will be built and painted as soon as GW graces us with Kill Team: Nightmare.
  12. So I didn't get anything really done hobby wise lately as Nurgle decided to bless me with something awful, tho thankfully I'm feeling much better so hopefully I can do some priming tomorrow. (weather permitting of course) In the mean time, here's a quick look at the full Retro Berzerker squad. I avoided using any of the skull-faced helms, as I'm not super fond of the look. I really like the other head options, so I was happy to use more of those instead. I'm hoping we see the release of the Night Lords kill team soon, as I'd love to finish up my Chaos Lord and maybe add a squad of kit bashed Chosen to the army.
  13. Glad you like how they've been turning out! It's been a lot of fun going back to the old models that I first collected years ago. On that note, I've been building another Berzerker squad, this time made from the old plastic kit. The rest are WIP, but these three are ready for priming. I've made some small adjustments to the positioning of some arms to open up the poses a bit and a small spacer on the wast, but overall I wanted to keep the original look. Honestly I can't wait to paint them, these are great models. Starting to feel like my Night Lords are being outnumbered by World Eaters, so I'll be painting some more Midnight Clad soon.
  14. Thanks! Honestly I think it's the best thing I've painted, and I'm kinda nervous about recreating it and being happy with the result. -------- Blah blah blah DREADNOUGHT -WIP- I can't stand the Primaris Dreadnought look, so I decided to give a shot at converting the main body to more closely resemble the boxnought. It's still pretty rough, I have to straighten things out and add more detail, etc etc but I'm pretty happy with this foundation, even if it has taken me friggin' weeks to get it to this point. I think I want to use the old Dreadnought arms instead of the honestly quite massive guns of the Ballistus kit. I like big guns but they feel oversized. Using the model of the month in the Sternguard kit meant that I had an extra when building the rest of the squad. I decided to quickly whip up a Lieutenant, mostly as an excuse to use one of the cool rebreather heads. I'll be swapping him to a 40mm base soon, and finishing up the armies bases. I also want to tackle some objective markers, though I'm still brainstorming on those.
