  1. @librisrouge Agree that Deathwatch and Custodes (especially Custodes) shouldn't be armies anymore than =][=. Could you not do the army you described in 10th using Militarum Tempestus as the main formation/army/whatever and then ally-in the inquisition stuff, the operatives, and the priest w/ penitent engine? BTW what you described is pretty much exactly what I am building/running for my 3rd ed. campaign with my sons. A Lord Inquisitor with his personal army of storm troopers (4 squads total with a Valkyrie and some Taurox Primes 3rd editionified with the vehicle design rules of that edition). The Inquisitor's old friend from the Adeptus Ministorum who brought a mob of Redemptionists, some arcoflagellants and a couple penitent engines to the party. Sprinkle in a killteam of Deathwatch when needed, a couple regular Inquisitors and their retinues who are subservient to the Lord Inquisitor (one Ordo Hereticus, the other Ordo Xenos) and that's my army. I'm only missing the Rogue Trader and breachers from what you described. Great idea! I won't steal it though because the last thing I need is more grey plastic in my pile of shame plus also my Lord Inquisitor is (fluff-wise) powerful enough that he has his own ships. Eh ... maybe some =][= themed breachers would be cool and figure out some house rules for them.
  2. Not really sure what GW's beef with Inquisition is. Back in late 3rd they were giving full support and gave them Daemon Hunters and Witch Hunters codexes. I always assumed that it was because of poor sales, but then Ashes of Faith sold out in seconds and it seems =][= stuff generally does well from an outsider's perspective (unless they're just doing small runs). That said, I don't know that =][= was ever meant to be fully stand-alone insofar as their troops were only ever Storm Troopers (available via IG/Militarum Tempestus), Grey Knights, Sisters of Battle, or Deathwatch. All of which can still be done. Harkening back to 3rd edition, pure =][= were always just HQ and Elite choices. So from a certain perspective =][= isn't exactly being abused or mistreated. Maybe they just don't fit clearly into whatever they're doing with 10th (which I don't know I'm just staying in my own 3rd edition world which to me was the golden age of =][=).
  3. After a lengthy family vacation out of the country I’m back and doing some more painting. Couple days ago did this old school sister hospitaller, always one of my favourite models from that Codex: Witch Hunters range.
  4. Reading this stuff is further confirming me that me and my boys made the right choice to just do Oldhammer (3rd edition) at home and stay out of the larger 40K scene. I think 8th edition was the last new edition I played so don't even really know what's going on. Not thinking I am missing much from what I've seen -- for my style of play and fluff.
  5. I'm so out of the loop these days, but just out of curiosity, is an "index" basically a supplement or a "mini codex" that cannot be used on its own but can be used as allies for a main faction? Seems to me that the release of Kill Team: Ashes of Faith bodes well for the Agents Index and also a bit of a return to the old school ways where Inquisitorial Storm Troopers are a thing. Also, hopefully the fact that it sold out in seconds will send the message to GW that inquisition is popular and fun and they should support it.
  6. Thanks for the encouragement @Bjorn Firewalker After a month on vacation overseas with the family, I’m back home and completed this Sister Hospitaller the other day:
  7. A few WIP shots today … Lord Inquisitor Soulis’ Throne of Redemption is coming along nicely, if slowly: The Dark Blades scouts are also coming along nicely. Camo cloaks and some details on weaponry are needed but these two give you the basic colour scheme:
  8. I posted a few new models for this strike force today in the Phœladar blog:
  9. A couple completions for the Ordo Hereticus strike force today: First up we’ve got Inquisitor Ambro of the Ordo Xenos who Lord Inquisitor Soulis is bringing in to assist with his investigation of the Orks. He is accompanied by his Imperial Navy liaison (counts as a sage). Then we have another three arco-flagellants bringing the total up to six. I can’t wait to use these guys their rules were awesome in 3rd edition. So deadly (T5 with D6 attacks of STR4 power weapons) and fluffy (burning out from too much combat stimms if you roll 6 for their fleet move or attacks).
  10. Greetings, xenos scum! ... erm ... I mean ... 'Ello gits, dis 'ere is a post about a new Deathskulls klan dat's out to krump a bunch of really stoopid 'oomies. Deez 'oomies is so dumb they named deir planet "Poo Ladder"! I'm doing a campaign with my two sons called The Phœladar Apostasy, and my 12 year old son is building an Ork army. In the WIP thread I liked to, we just posted his old skool looted Leman Russ. He doesn't really use the internet much yet, so I decided to start this thread so I could do some posts on his behalf, mostly to ask fluff questions since I don't know much about Ork fluff myself aside from what's in the 3rd edition codex which I acquired for this campaign. As fortune would have it, he likes blue and painted a Kill Team he started with in blue colors and for his army wants to go with a Lootas and Looted vehicle theme ... so it worked out perfectly to discover that the Bloodskulls like blue and looting! The storyline for our campaign will revolve around the hugely powerful psychic powers being manifested by the Ork Warboss who's been pillaging Phœladar, to the point that he's even turning humans to join his WAAAGH! (got the idea from the Codex: Witch Hunters "Narratives"). The Witch Hunters must put a stop to this abomination before more of the Emperor's servants are turned! How would humans "going Ork" manifest itself? I'm thinking of doing a houserule based on the "Armageddon Ork Hunters" list from White Dwarf where allied Imperial Guard troops have the "Mob Rule" and "Power of the Waagh" special rules. What do you think? In the meantime, here is his first batch of Boyz:
  11. Agree 3rd edition was best, and I cannot get onboard with a lot of the new miniatures (with the exception of all the new Adepta Sororitas/Ecclesiarchy stuff which is top notch). Getting back to old minis of yore that speak to us, I should have added this guy: This is the model that the original Lord Inquisitor Soulis was based off (this is not him or my model though) albeit with weapon swaps. This model always brings back memories, although my favourite models are generally 3rd edition. I won't post them here though since most of my favourite 3rd ed. models will be appearing in my and @Marcus de Scapulis's thread The Phoeladar Apostasy WIP.
  12. These are some fantastic conversions, I really commend you for such effort and attention to detail. Also nice to see the old school IG models. Nice painjob!
  13. Good day, fellow inquisitors. It's been over three years, but I am finally returning. As mentioned in the first post, I was already suffering hobby burnout in January of 2020 and for a variety of reasons this got worse and I confess I ended up ghosting the forum. Many thanks to @Dusktiger for picking up the slack and stepping in. My interest in 40K has finally been reinvigorated by my two sons, especially my younger 12 y.o., pushing for some oldhammer. So we're doing up small-ish 3rd edition armies and a story-driven campaign. I'm not sure that I'll be posting =][= specific updates in this thread anymore, but I will be following our progress in this PLOG (which will be updated in my signature regularly - also NB that the first post of the thread features some base paint on Lord Inquisitor Soulis' Throne of Redemption):
  14. Greetings, brothers. I intend two threads to cover the 3rd edition campaign I am doing with my two sons -- this thread, to cover the hobby/WIP/painting aspect, and then I will do a separate thread for battle reports and related "fluff" (i.e. storyline for the batreps). Battle reports most likely won't begin until at least the summer as we have to build up our forces. I expect my oldest son to create an account here at B&C soon so that he can contribute as well. The forces that will be involved in the campaign are: Inquisition (Codex: Witch Hunters, 2003) - run my myself Dark Blades - DA successor chapter (Codex: Dark Angels, 1999 and Codex: Spacemarines 1998) - oldest son, "Primus" (16 yrs old) Deathskulls Orks (Codex: Orks, 1999) - youngest son, "Secundus" (12 yrs old) "The Fallen" (Chaos marine rules from the main rule book) - NPC faction to be used according to special mission house rule, communally painted Chaos cultists ("Adversaries of the Witch Hunter" list from Codex: Witch Hunters) - NPC faction, communally painted Phœladar PDF (Codex: Imperial Guard, 1999) - run by Secundus, but using my DKoK models When we're ready to start posting battle reports, I will share with you the storyline that we have come up with for this campaign. Today, I will begin sharing some of the initial WIP and completions. The Witch Hunter force is led by none other than Lord Inquisitor Soulis, well-known from my blog about his force. I've started the base colours for his Throne of Redemption: While I'm working on this centrepiece for my army, Secundus is preparing a looted Leman Russ Battle Tank using the bottom half of a Russ I found in my bitz box (don's ask why we only had the lower half because I don't know) and various bitz and plasticard: Primus is starting off with a squad of sniper scouts, and a squad of bolter/shotgun/BP&CCW scouts for the Dark Blades: And finally, some cultists/traitors that were recently completed (Secundus did the base coat and wash, I did quick highlights to finish them up): There won't be a full Fallen force, just a few cultists and marines running around in certain missions/maps.
