  1. It may well have been sales-based in part, but I refuse to believe that (at the time) the entirety of the MkII line sold less than the Corsair upgrade kit for Eldar Guardians.
  2. Love this, and great job painting the thing too! I didn't realise how beefy it actually was with the big eagle on the chest. Super clean paint job except where it shouldn't be, which is excellent, and I can't help be jealous of those neat, even highlights.
  3. Mate, that is truly impressive! Great looking army as well. Love all the old style tanks you've got in there. How's everyone else doing? We're about to cross the halfway mark of the month, so get cracking if you've still got ground to cover!
  4. That's not a bad shout. I guess there's not much more the Storm Eagle could do late game that can't already be done by something else on the table (should everything survive that long). And I guess it's one less flyer. I'm not trying to bring a WAAC list by any means, I just like the idea of Air Cavalry in a legion force. A bunch of guys screaming down from orbit in various 'aircraft' is cooooool, but if people aren't prepared with AA, then it wouldn't be a particularly fun game. Don't Immortals have 5+ FNP natively as of the February FAQ, which then stacks with the 6+ from the Apothecary? Or does FNP not stack like that? The reason for the Anvillus pods on the boring squads is actually to save points. If I run the Termies in pods, which I don't need to do because I can just teleport them, I need to pay 70 points for standard ones for the boring bois, which obviously eats in to the rest of the list. If I just teleport them though, it frees up precious points for things like Combi-weapons and Chainfists etc.
  5. Sort of coming off the back of the current discussion... I'm currently trying to sort out an Orbital Assault list featuring our beloved Mor, a big mob of Jetbikes and a Kharybdis with 15-20 Immortals in it, all/mostly armed with Volkites. Mor can Deep Strike if he's in a unit of Terminators as per the OA RoW, Jetbikes can Deep Strike because they're jetbikes, and everything else will be in pods. Yes, I'm doing a stupid thing of running no tanks at all in an IH list. Have at me :D However, I love the 30k big tactical squad, which doesn't fit in this list short of a flyer or another Kharybdis, which I don't want. Does a big Tactical squad in a Storm Eagle fit as a late game objective grabber, or am I better off putting that extra ~150 points into something else? Working List at present looks like - Autek Mor & Terminator Command Squad (Chainfists and Combi-meltas to taste) 5 Gorgon Terminators (Couple of Chainfists and a Graviton Gun because IH) 15-20 Volkite Immortals in a Kharybdis with an Apothecary for sweet, sweet 4+ FNP 1 x 20 man Tactical Squad in a Storm Eagle 1 x 10 man Tactical Squad in an Anvillus DP 1 x 5-10 man TSS of some kind in an Anvillus DP 6/7 Jetbikes with heavy weapons to taste Xiphon Fire Raptor(s) - I have two of these, both with IH icons stuck on from a previous army, but don't need to use both. Having actually written this out rather than having it in my head, it looks like this is a little more of an Air-Cav list than a straight OA list. That, and I think I might be bringing too many cool toys and not enough substance, although the above does give me ~50+ dudes at 3.5k. Three pods at what would be about 3.5k is probably a bit jammy too. :D Any thoughts or advice on this? Does it even work at all?
  6. Have donated, and will again if needs be. B&C is, moreso than any Facebook group or other social media, my hobby home. All praise to the Adminnisiah for their glorious works, and to Moderati for helping steer the ship. Long may the B&C endure.
  7. You guys all know they literally put out a 'Help Wanted' for a Lead Writer for the Heresy series a couple of months back, right? We're good. I doubt very much they'd hire a guy just to close it down with the next book. Why bother, when Anuj and Neil could just do that for two salaries rather than three? Possibly, if I lean into my naive-but-gradually-becoming-rewarded optimism around the nu-GW business method, I'd say it might be about to go really well for 30k. Given there's a big shift coming, if GW take the 30k team out from under Tony Cottrell and make it something that stands on its own (without his accursed meddling), then that would be a huge boon. HOWEVER. I think we may see the end of the 250/300+ page Black Book release once the Legions are all done. Other than Terra, there's just not the need for it. You don't need to bundle four legions into a single book if you can release a smaller, softcover book detailing a single conflict or warzone every four to six months, a la something like a Codex. Does that take some of the prestige away from the product? Probably. Does it make the product more accessible to the wider GW community? Certainly. Is GW wanting to capitalise on a bunch of (angry) people who want to play with 'Proper Space Marines' after the Primaris line replaces classic marines? Again, I'd say so. The problem that 30k's had is that it makes a ton of money, but since Alan Bligh's untimely passing, no one has been able to take the reins of it and lead it somewhere. I'm relatively certain that most of the senior FW guys have lost interest with it - Andy Hoare is all about Necromunda, and Tony C only cares about what he considers 'cool models'*. That's totally fine, but if you personally don't consider something to be 'cool', and you're the boss, then it gets de-prioritised, even if there's a relatively large customer base still wanting more of your product. GW, on the other hand, rather enjoy money. The 30k game as a whole makes money, moreso than any of the specialist game ranges. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they made a decision along the lines of 'This is too big for you, and you've kinda fluffed it over the last couple of years, so just give it to us and we'll steer for a bit'. *HH Weekender 2018. I simply don't believe the future's that bleak. And if it is, then I've got ~50 unbuilt MkII marines from the LCTB fiasco (as well as all the other stuff) that I'll cherish forever.
  8. Welcome back to the land of the posting member! Great to have you back zed That's absolutely fine mate. The point of the pledges isn't to be too restrictive, just to give you something to get done within the month. If we bring in a competitive angle, then it'll be a little less flexible, but for now if people need to change stuff I'm not gonna stop them!
  9. Ahoy, dear Frater! A few of us in the Loyalist ETL thread discussed very briefly how it feels a little emptier now that the ETL has finished for another year. I remembered this thing we used to do three or four years ago, where every month a bunch of us would decide to do some specific hobby each month and help to motivate each other to get that thing done. Basically, you pledge or sign up to complete a certain hobby task before the end of the month, be it building, converting, painting, completing or any combination of the above. In the same vein as the ETL, you would post initial or in-progress pics, and then a completed one at the end of the month showing that you've fulfilled your goal. Hopefully there's some motivation to do this in order to keep our momentum going after ETL, especially given our deservedly high results. I'm planning on building up my next army, Iron Hands, over the next several months in order to prep it for next year's ETL. There's also usually Loyalty and Treachery starting sometime in January, so if there's enough interest we can run this alongside those. Once it's been established who and how many are keen to have a crack at this, we can look at things like tracking progress month to month, maybe doing a Loyalists vs. Traitors thing, or even an inter-legion contest depending on how many are participating. In terms of an actual pledge, it doesn't need to be any more complex than this - I, StruManChu, pledge to build and convert 15 Medusan Immortals for my Iron Hands by month's end. Failure to do so will result in gentle mockery from my more successful fellow participants. Anyone else, feel free to sign up if you're keen. Any questions, hit me up!
  10. Too bad if those players also want to use fancy doors on their MkIIB Land Raiders or the afore-mentioned Storm Eagles though. It's within the realms of the possible that FW are moving towards some kind of general (plastic?) upgrade kits for each Legion, thus the removal of torsos, brass etch, icons and a load of vehicle doors, but it's been so long since they started taking stuff away with no replacements in sight that I just don't hold a lot of hope for that any more.
  11. Anyone else feeling like something's lacking since ETL finished? Because I am. Not sure if it was the adrenaline or the camaraderie, or both, or something else altogether, but I'm feeling like all the scratching I've just given my hobby itch has just led to more itching, and I'm wondering if anyone else is feeling similar. We used to have a thing in the AoD forum called the Casual Painting Challenge, or something like that. Basically every month we'd set ourselves goals to paint a squad, or a tester mini, or a vehicle, or somesuch. Many of those who were involved have since moved on, but from memory Lion got stuck in a bit, as did Viridia and some others who might still be around. Would any of you be interested in doing something similar, even if it's just a couple of minis a month? I'd like to keep my hobby at a consistent level going forward, because I've finally reached a point where I feel like I know what I'm doing, and too long a break will only be detrimental to that. Let me know what you think, ideally before we lose this thread! :D
  12. Mate, I don't even think I'm going anywhere near 5k next year, so don't feel bad. No regrets whatsoever, because we got there in the end, but man... With the wee one needing so much attention everything in the evenings gets pushed back, so I only get to sit down and paint from about 10pm onwards. I could do without another three months of 4-5 hours sleep a night because I'm up doing ETL vows.
  13. Completely forgot to post it here, but my story turned into a handful of vignettes for a 30k Narrative Event I played at over the weekend. It's a PDF though, and I've got no idea how to get that uploaded here, so for now - a Dropbox link! https://www.dropbox.com/s/hj9ikvl4cpw5gzf/To%20Wield%20a%20Broken%20Blade%20-%20Ultramarines%20at%20Cortona.pdf?dl=0 Would love any feedback, but in any case, congrats to all! I love the ETL, especially when we win! :D
  14. No impatience implied nor offence meant! Just found myself with giddy schoolgirl levels of excitement this morning :D
