I'm mostly in the hobby to paint, though I want to learn how to do various conversion techniques, such as GS'ing. However, I do like the occasional friendly game, and I really want to organize or partake in a campaign once I have one of my armies finished.

  1. There's meant to be little contrast, but I understand where you're coming from. Part of the problem is that specific model. His details have been so hidden (even before I rescued him from a bitz box at a FLGS), it's not worth it to do much with him other than to test different techniques or color schemes. As I said, it's a (very) rough mock up. On a model with proper detail I'll add highlights, be a little lighter with the wash, and gun casings will probably get painted either red or orange, I haven't decided yet. Edit: Here's the painter version; the chest decorations will also be painted differently, so that will help break up the darkness as well.
  2. Got a rough mock up of my basic color scheme put together:
  3. Today in the hobby I... ... got my basic color scheme for my Sanguine Gargoyles done. (It's a very rough mock up, so please don't judge the crude paint job. Also, I'm sold on Tesseract Glow.)

    Works in Progress

A place to collect pics of my projects as I work on/complete them.
  5. I'm actually looking for methods to paint marble on armor, rather than for basing purposes. I'm going to paint my McFarlane Intercessor in my Chapter's colors, but I'm going to embellish him a bit, because why not? That's not to say, however, that I won't use this in the future. :)
  6. Today in the hobby I picked up a few new paints and some paint medium, as well as some mixing beads for my pots. I was able to salvage a few of my old paints, and I'm hoping with the medium and the the beads I might be able to salvage some more that are right on the edge of just being trashed. Tomorrow in the hobby (I don't know if I'll be online tomorrow) I will be picking up some brushes and knocking out most of my January vow for the 12 Months of Hobby challenge.
  7. Welcome Atlon! I'm a Death Guard fan as well, and love that they're getting some love right now. I'd love to see your armies when you can get photos of them up. :)
  8. No apologies needed, Dwango. :) I too am hoping this challenge will push me to get my army completed. I'm off to the store today to pick up the remaining paints I need (I was able to salvage some from my collection, but I'm low on others that I need), and some new brushes, so that I can get started tomorrow.
  9. I want to do a marble effect on my McFarlane intercessor, and I've seen one video where a woman achieves a close look by blowing bubbles in an ink-like solution onto a cup and then letting them dry. Does anyone else have any pointers or tips for how to achieve such a look?
  10. Even better. I, Fenrykus , embark on the 12 Months of Hobby Challenge, and for the month of January pledge to complete Sternguard Captain Namora and Company Ancient Vindaheim by month's end. Additionally, I pledge to complete Sternguard Veteran Squad Namora by the end of June for a Plodding Along vow. Edit: Thanks for the welcome, Grotsmasha

    Vows

A place to upload pics specifically for my Vows.
  12. So the base point of this challenge is to complete 1 model a month, correct? Awesome. Even with the end of January fast approaching, I think I can do that. I just need to get some paints, and possibly brushes, and I can get something done up. One quick question: Do I need to vow for every month that I want to participate in up front, or can I vow for Jan through March, and then In March continue vowing?
  13. Alright, here are my individual units for my Sanguine Gargoyles army (I'll get the unit shots of my other projects later). Some of the models had blu-tac holding their arms and/or backpacks on from when I played a game with them. I removed all of it that I could find last night, so most of the models will be armless, backpackless, and in some cases headless. I'm an incredibly slow painter, because I find it hard not to try and get a perfect paintjob for every mini. I need to learn to embrace the tabletop quality mindset in order to crank out the larger squads. I have my characters and my McFarlane Intercessor to practice perfection. Tigurius Sternguard Veteran Squad Sanguinary Guard Death Company - w/Bolters - w/CCW's Chaplains Tactical Squad Kitbashed Captain/Tactical Sergeant Sanguinary Priests and Corbulo counts-as Vanguard Veteran Squad Scout Squad I have vowed in the 12 Months of Hobby challenge, with January's pledge being the start to Sternguard Veteran Squad Namora: Sterguard Captain Namora and Company Ancient Vindaheim. Additionally, for my Plodding Along vow, I have pledged to complete Sternguard Veteran Squad Namora.
  14. Excuse my ignorance but...what? Edit: I know the Warrior's Virtues, but not the Angelic Graces... The Angelic Graces are: honour, humility, mercy, restraint and forgiveness. They talk a little bit about them in Dante Ah, thank you.
  15. Gamiel has some good suggestions (he's given me some over on my Index Astartes), as do the rest. Your article is evolving nicely, I look forward to seeing what you add.
