Update! Been really busy with life recently. But I'm planning on finishing up my first terminator this weekend. Going to get all five of my first box built before making the big purchase on an air brush. After I get the air brush I will need to practice priming with it. I have a few models I can test on before going hog wild on my precious Grey Knights. :D Reset assured brothers. This project will be completed. Though, maybe not in time for LVO 2023. Turns out my vacation to the Philippines will be happening then. So, maybe 2024. But I'll start making my rounds around the gaming stores in the Las Vegas area for sure in a few months. I'll get a picture up this weekend, unpainted so not too entertaining but still progress!

Yeah I am still looking into the exact method I want to use. If you look at the cover of the 9th codex, you see what I'm going for. The Grey Knight on the right in the front. Really dark and the shine will show the armor being silver. Also, there is a specific method I'll be using for the base armor. Richard Gray's method of stippling the paint on. Using grays and blues instead of metals is an amazing idea! I was wondering how the metal would look after the oil washes. One benefit of the oil washes though is you can reactivate them and move it around to make sure the blend is smooth and you don't get that strange look. But my goal is to copy and modify his tutorial for my silver boys. Also, my hands shake and my vision is horrible. I completely understand the rubbish at painting comment as I have a rough time of it as well. Nice! Be sure you share you're progress when you can! I like the 8th Brotherhood's rules but I like that they are an all-rounder brotherhood in the lore the most. :D One of the main reasons I settled on Grey Knights was due to stormbolters. Stormbolers are my favorite weapon in the game and the 8th Brotherhood's rules seem to give those weapons the best buffs. Temporal Accuracy is amazing and lets me enact cool scenes in games where my boys will be in melee and unloading stormbolters into the enemies' faces!

﴾Silver Blades﴿ 8th Brotherhood -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- ***WORK IN PROGRESS*** Painting Details I will be painting my army in the Grimdark fashion. I am still looking at guides and will be buying my air brush and paints on the 6th of June. Once they arrive I will start painting and share pictures of my progress. I am still looking at difference of Grimdark painting silver, but I know I want my blades super bright like the swords in the picture. Models I am starting out by building my force for LVO 2023. Once that is finished I will continue to expand on building other units for the 8th brotherhood. I will be starting with a Brotherhood Terminator Squad. First model I'll be getting built soon is a terminator with nemesis warding stave. Planning I am planning on a Terminator themed army for the LVO 2023. So Every until will be in Terminator armor or a transport for Terminator armor. So no Dreadknights, Purifiers, etc. I am thinking about running two max sized paladin squads, three 5man terminator squads, two apothecaries to go with the paladins, a chaplain, a librarian, grandmaster. Still a little wishy washy on the list. I have a few months to pull everything together so there is no rush.

Armor of Contempt effects for Iron Hands
Aothaine replied to Iron Father Ferrum's topic in + IRON HANDS +
I’m a weirdo. I like the rule but damn it feels so powerful. It also ruins my second favorite weapon, the heavy bolter. But since scouts are no longer a troops choice it isn’t too big of a hit. Others have covered the primary important bits. I wonder how this will affect iron hands alpha strike lists. Drop the infiltrate units mid field with those manned walkers and just stall the opponent. Then run like two squads of scouts in LSS to capture and contest back field objectives.. I get my book in a few weeks and I will then have a better idea of how this will affect us and how to use it. -

Thank you both! I definitely like oil washes. From what I have seen so far you put broad highlights and paint your base coats down, add some damage marks then oil wash. After the wash you matte varnish and then highlight and touch ups. Richard Gray did a easy gray blend on the gun before the wash and it turns out amazing! The gun was so simple! Pretty sure I will be using his black Templar video as a guide as well. If anyone else has any ideas please share. Just getting into oil based washes and grimdark. This is going to be fun!

Been jumping all over trying to decide what to do. I'm working on a new scheme. My old scout army idea will no longer work as scouts are now elites. But it is okay. Switching over to Primaris was the original idea anyway. Also heard Primaris will possibly be getting their own Terminator variants soon. Anyway. I'll have some updates within the next month. Going see if I have all the tool and materials needed to convert Lieutenant Amulius to Iron Hands this weekend. :D

Hey family! I need some help. I'm finally at a job where I make enough money to actually build an army and start attending events. I know I want to go with Iron Hands and I will be using the Primaris line. So, here are my questions. I have been watching a bunch of different Grimdark painting guides on Youtube and I am starting to get the hang of what is required for the look. It looks like Grimdark paint jobs end up using some oil washes to really bring out the model. Example: Now I know this is blue for Ultramarines but Richard Gray used Burnt Sienna and Burnt Umber and mixed them for the oil wash on this model and I absolutely love how it turned out. Will this combination work on the black of Iron Hands? Does anyone have any good youtube video recommendations on learning out to Grimdark with Black and Metal? I just found Grimdark Compendium and plan on watching as many of their videos as possible so I'm ready to go when I start painting in a few weeks. I really appreciate all the help anyone can give. Really looking forward to finally getting a force on the table and to hopefully meeting some of you folks if you end up going to LVO2023.

Really looking forward to this. I'll continue to work on my beta test mini when I have some time and post updates when I can. Until then, be safe and have fun everyone!- 31 replies

Hello everyone! Gonna test this out as soon as I get my airbrush in April for my birthday. I've been watching a bunch of air brush tutorials and one I found I really enjoyed was this: 1) Prime in Dark Silver 2) Create light source in Light Silver 3) Apply Hoeth Blue over armor focusing more coats over the spots hit by the light source but not completely covering the silver. I'm going to try and get the metallic look in the image below. These questions are about blue Vallejo Air paints My question is I much prefer the paint droppers that Vallejo puts their paint in. But I'm having difficulties finding the right paint to match Hoeth Blue. I think it is USAF Light Blue or IDF Blue but it could be Faded P.R.U. Blue. What do you guys think? What about UK Azure Blue? Also, what color should I use for the shade areas? I was thinking Dark Blue RLM24 could work. I will be working a lot with painter's tape and thin plastic to do as much work as possible with the air brush. I want to only have to do edge highlighting with my brush. I plan on getting the 3 sculpts for the runes and the chapter badges as well as unique helms. Thank you in advance everyone!

White Scars Renegades Project: Oblivion Hunters
Aothaine replied to Aothaine's topic in + HERETIC ASTARTES +
I looks white right? It was Wraith Bone primer. I'm painting Grey seer over it and it is significantly more grey than white. I'm wondering if I should have just painted the white right over the Wraith Bone. But then what color would I use for edge highlighting.. So I'm not entirely sure what to do here to reach the white. Perhaps I should not have primed in Wraith Bone? My eyes are old. But the Grey Seer looks significantly darker. Before I keep working on the model I think I'm going to prime a sprue with Wraith Bone tomorrow and do some edge highlighting with White scar and see how it looks. I don't have a Wraith Bone pot so it is going to be difficult to undo what I've already done without re-priming. Really wish I had that air brush right now. The coats look so much nicer than what I've ever achieved with cans. But we have to work with what we're given. Something else I've learned is that I almost like painting in glazes. I live in Las Vegas so it is super dry out here and the paint dries so fast. Perhaps I should look into a good wet pallet and learn how to use it. But I'm trying to get that smooth look that you see on professional models. I don't mind it if takes 4-5 thin coats. Just want to get a good process down so when I have more models to paint I can start chain-painting them to get them on the board faster. Looked into this a bunch and jumped around from Grey Seer primer and Corax White primer. Settled on Corax White. Primer: Corax White / White Scar (Air) Contrast: Apothecary White + Lajmian Medium Dry Brush: Praxeti White In about 3 months I'll be able to afford my air brush kit. So I'm going to hold off on the can primer as I've never liked using White can primer. It always comes out with stuff in it, little moth balls or something. I'll get this dude painted up using my brushes for testing. Going to Scar White him with a few thin coats then drop Apothecary White on him and dry brush with White scar. Should have a similar look. I'll take some photos with updates. Should be finishing the White re-primer tomorrow night after work.- 31 replies

Ahh maybe I had it wrong then. I suppose I'll start with a regular airbrush setup then. See if I like it. Maybe I can get a good deal on eBay to test it out before going all in. Thank you everyone!

Curious if anyone here has tried these out. I've not gone into airbrushing for years because I just didn't want to lug around that massive air compressor. Plus I live in apartments and they are fairly loud. But the compressors from these cordless air compressors seem to be pretty quite and portable. I saw a review by a channel called ninjon on Youtube. He showed out his worked and his was YF youfu, but that one seems to be sold out. Looks like imyyds has a similar setup though. Has anyone else worked with these?
