  1. Besides the much afore mentioned Primaris. I've got a simple retcon: Razorbacks have been around since the heresy. Why? Cause they're cool! I also think from a modeling perspective the Deimos Rhino with weapons from a tarantula sentry turret would look pretty cool.
  2. I've been thinking about this thread for a while, and in the end I kinda figured it's not so much that GW has priced me out, but that they kinda stopped selling to me. Most of my army is in legends, more going with every edition change, what firstborn kits there are left I've already bought for my needs. It is also a little hard to reconcile that a tac squad costs as much as a land raider used to. I will admit, I usually say I'm out, and that I've made my last purchase for my army/backlog but then something new comes out and I find a way to justify it. Except for now my backlog has grown pretty extensive, and the new monopose way models are being made doesn't really appeal to me, so I'm effectively out.
  3. The problem is that's not what this issue is about, it's about saying you can't compete directly with GW by making models that fit their (and other) game system.
  4. I mean, I could be playing one page rules, so why does GW get to decide what my dwarf guild looks like?
  5. By that token, does that mean anyone who makes a gothic terrain should also not be allowed just because GW made their own gothic terrain? I mean you can argue that ghamak designs mimic elements of GW products, but they aren't the GW design. They have a different aesthetic at their core. That's the sniff test. not some nebulous, can someone buy it instead of a GW products. By that logic Pepsi Co. could never exist because Coca-Cola was already on the market.
  6. Oppositely, I wish there weren't grooves on the 30K Rhino for the headlights. One of the things I did when I built my resin ones was not add the lights because I didn't like the placement, but the new plastic kits have that indent on the armor. An indent for the dozer blade or tow hooks isn't too bad, but I figure that has more to do with sprue design than anything.
  7. I'm a dreadhead, but it's an agreement on the redemptor scale dreads, the Boxnaught is the iconic ideal of a dreadnought, the new primaris stuff just doesn't have the same appeal. Aesthetically I guess it fits with primaris, but it, like the rest of primaris, looks like the it's from a GI Joe product line, un-ironically tacticool.
  8. So the subject of this first blog post is gonna be rather innocuous, I've had kitbash fellblade with custom bits from blood and Skulls industry for a few years now. I had used the original sponson with a set of twin linked lascannons from Blood and Skulls more or less jammed in to count as the Quad linked lascannons. But not so long ago (or at least it felt that way, it's been a year at least!) I decided to retrofit the sponson with something that looked a bit more space marine. I like the way they look, but the back of them is rather plain as I had plans on kitbashing in some lascannon batteries from a storm talon. While I did find the bits, I also found out that they wouldn't work due to size and shape concerns. That's why today I decided it was time to 3d model some up. It started with a drawing, most people would use a proper CAD program of some kind, I've got access to plotter software. So step one is a 2d layout. A couple steps on conversion later, I turned it into an SVG, then imported into Blender. and from blender finally into Photon Workshop So you might see there's a minor aspect difference between the two 3d files, it's because I didn't actually measure the space for the ammo mount at first (I know, I know, measure twice cut once) but as this was a kinda slipshod afternoon faff about, I'm not too worried because it turned out that with a tiny bit of Y axis crunching I can now fit two plates per ammo mount, which kinda makes sense for a quad lascannon. It'll still be a bit before I can get around to printing, painting and glueing them up, since my print room is off limits right now due to kitten shenanigans, but hey, at least I got my next blog post planned out!

    Project Fellblade

A custom fellblade made with parts from Blood and Skulls Industry.
  10. I mean, he's also working with 10,000 year old tech & knowledge degradation. Just because Cawl pulled some nuMarines out of a hat doesn't mean he's got the solution to every technological shortcoming the Imperium is gonna have crop up over the millennia. Maybe that same fight in 30K would have gone different.
  11. The old first release of the Eagle was bad, but the Fireraptor wasn't too bad because you could square it from the bottom up; and they were only really hard to build because FW couldn't send a straight piece of resin to save a life if they tried. The Fellblade was pretty painful too (in the boiling water and molding things straight while ignoring the slowly forming 1st degree burns kind of way) the only kits I can say we're easy were the Leviathan and the Sicaran, and maybe the Deredeo if you're ammo feed wasn't too wonky and missile launcher didn't have any major tweaks. Otherwise the Heresy has always been home of the advanced modeling challenge. I'm just glad that the drop pods (and the deathstorm pods) live to see another day. I think pods look good both opened on the table, and closed on a shelf.
  12. If I know my star trek, it's something to drink ;)
  13. HDII feels like it spikes in popularity whenever there's some big change or event (e.g. the Squids, the attack on Super Earth) I'd say it's sorta the same with SM2, but I strictly play that Co-op with a buddy of mine, so I can't speak for it's wider play. I will say they did get me on the DLC trap by sticking the beakie behind a paywall, and if I wanted to make "my" assault marines I'd need it, and you know, once you've taken that first hit... SM2 has become a standard part of my gaming rotation, sometimes it's play a game or two once a week, or more recently with the release of horde mode, playing on a nearly daily basis. That said, another game in the same cycle is Darktide, as it matures we find new reason to go back and play some more, it does seem like it's got a healthy player base as well, with regular new players, a good amount of veterans and a few whales. It's monetization is much more predatory by nature, real money to a premium currency that never quite zeroes out or gives you the right amount you need to buy that one outfit or skin. That said, it has good game play loops, and really encapsulates the feel of 40K. I can't say how much it's license brings in, but I could see it being not insignificant. Honestly though, I'm waiting for a proper Guard game to scratch that strange itch that exists between Darktide and Space Marine 2, or a dreadnought game, or a tank game, .. . ..... ....
  14. The only other alternative I can think of are dry transfer decals, but if you're looking for something custom you're pretty much back to square one. They're usually for pinewood derby cars, but I've seen them used on military and gundam models, so you might get lucky sourcing stuff from that stock.
  15. This is why I won't watch Luetin09, I remember a video on the Imperial Aquila that he did, and had it flipped the whole time, and came up with some nonsense justification why the eye was on the other side. If you can't take 5 minutes to make sure that the logo of the faction you're talking about is right way around, what other nonsense are you gonna get wrong?
