  1. thanks BjornFirewalker. i try. if nothing else it keeps me interested, out of trouble and off the streets. last post. sorry readers but i'm done, no more content. no skin off anyone's nose i know.
  2. concur. given i have the greater part of two boxes worth of unbuilt B@C marines and no intention of truscaling anything it's easier to ignore 8th. i don't mind the idea of, "we shall call them... mini-centurions". i am looking forward to someone writing a fauscale tutorial though :) TITH i started work on an epic black templars army... because too many marine armies is still not enough.
  3. sounds like you might already have it covered... :) all subjective... i) betrayal at calth; natural activations, you can choose weapon loadouts, relatively simple rules. possibly an easier intro to 'proper' board gaming than space hulk. that said it's just marines vs marines and requires assemble, painting etc. for a complete novice that's a substantial bit of lead time before rolling any dice. ii) space hulk; more abstract than 'tabletop' so less of an 'intro course to tabletop'. naratively a winner hands down. plus introduces multiple factions (... what? there are other races than those marine guys?!) rules are great, models are assembled,... nothing bad to say about it. iii) if you're open to other companies anvil (yep, the bitz folk) have a tabletop offering which looks like a simpler (not worse, just less convoluted) game. it's a table top rather than a stand-alone box game but it has alternating activations. i've only test played it a few times but i'm looking to start into it seriously. rules available on line. iv) the (relatively) newly released battle for vedros starter box has a simplied rule set if you want a stepping stone into tabletop. i think it's only available in US (definitely not in oz) but there's always the ebay. and finally... TITH i finally finished printing off my space hulk project corridor segments. still a butt-tonne of work to go assembling and finishing and so on but just getting to this stage is ace.
  4. TITH i had a crack at the minigame from white dwarf. aaaaand it was well worth the 3 bucks i paid for the flimsiest pack of cards i've ever encountered from a local cheapy shop. as i was test playing it solo obviously the element of surprise doesn't really apply, so i added the following clause... the character that is the 'attacker' gets to place their 'duel' card second. this means they can react to the first character's action.... a rather large advantage. makes being the 'attacker' a bit more worthwhile or noticeable. however the 'follow-up actions' (especially if you don't know their effects) can add a bit of random to the end result. well worth the effort and shows there's fun to be had all over the place. thanks GW. p.s. the red pack was the sm sergeant and the blue pack was the chaos champion. p.p.s. i played two subsequent games and the chaos champion won both. one by a substantial amount and the other was a turn-around, i.e. was down lives but then the follow-up switched things over. am considering adding some house rules to make different powered characters, i.e. start with lowest 7 cards then add on 2 for dual wield, 2 for power weapon etc. there's no incentive to take plebian users except if you have say 3 characters per side and can only distribute 6 'bonuses' between them. would make for an inquisitor entourage vs chaos cultist boss fight shoot out. but probably i'm over thinking it.
  5. tith i didn't paint. nor did i assemble models. nor did i print or make 3d models. instead i looked at the batch of land raiders i just finished as i was boxing them up and noticed that before edge highlighting they were flat, drab, nondescript yellow bricks. now with a edge highlighting the overall effect somehow lifted the entire shade of the model. sure, the edges were sharper but the colour of the previously dull panels seemed lifted as well. having recently been looking at vids about combining colours to create other colours (green pixels next to red pixel creates yellow etc) it was already on my mind. so today in the hobby i watched all the stuff out the train window studying edges.
  6. hi blackmac79, sorry for the delay. if you're on facebook look up "newcastle legion". it's a closed group. their description... Description We meet once per month at the Gallipoli Legions Club Hamilton Newcastle. This a huge venue that caters for FoW, Infinity, 40k, Warhammer, Epic and many more. We play on the last Sunday of the month from 10am-6pm and it costs $10 for the day. http://www.newcastlelegion.com/
  7. What's the plan? Always a fan of diy.
  8. feels like we just finished the last one, but you are correct, time flies. tith i finished printing a batch of 8 regular land raiders, 1 (supreme) command(er) land raider, 2 fellblades... and a librarian. 6mm of course. the imperial fists are looking forward to their reinforcements arriving. oh yes
  9. http://gwpertinent.blogspot.com.au/2009_11_01_archive.html http://spacehulk.barsoom.cc/mirrors/shc/travelsh.htm damnit... those are cool [valiantly.. resisting.. the urge.. to add this.. to the.. project.. list] they're greatly underrated, especially as narrative systems by 'real players'. i get that they're not ideal for a flgs setting or competition but as a hobbyist as opposed to a competitor they're pretty sweet. re other boxed games: hang onto your plastic as B@C works with your other models. this is pretty much the only reason i'm hanging onto my 28mm stuff now days. have just recently started looking into vassal again. no module for space hulk otherwise i'd suggest a game online.
