Hellebras's Achievements

  1. In this case, just a few thin coats of Yriel Yellow, a recess shade of Reikland Fleshshade, and an edge highlight of Screaming Skull.
  2. I haven't really been motivated to paint over the past few months, and most of my energy has been devoted to other, non-40k, projects. But I did use some rather certain, even arrogant language when making my vow, so I had no choice but to push through the block in a couple of long sessions.
  3. I, Hellebras, vow on the name of Rogal Dorn and the honor of the Imperial Fists to complete one Redemptor Dreadnought for the glory of the Adeptus Astartes on or by the 15th of August, 2020. Failure will not be tolerated.
  4. Intercessors are pretty solid for us, and I personally really like the basic bolt rifle.
  5. A unit with a breacher option is about how I'd design a foot Tacticus Close Support unit. Really, it would be a choice between a chainsword and a big shield (the durability option, maybe re-rolling saves and getting an invul?) or a big two-handed chainsword (with options for both a "sweep" attack that provides multiple chainsword attacks per attack on the profile and a "cleave" attack that has better strength, AP, and damage) for a more fragile heavy-hitter. I really don't expect to see a jump pack+chainsword unit anytime soon, as people have said that overlaps with Assault Squads too much for me to think GW would go there yet. It does make for a pretty light CC hitting unit, which pairs well with the added mobility advantage if we look at the philosophy that seems to have been taken with Primaris so far, but I think they'd go for something more novel first.
  6. It doesn't bother me; I already ran dedicated anti-tank guns and built lists that benefit from cycling doctrines, so at worst I won't be able to stay in Devastator doctrine for another turn if I want to.
  7. Glad I built for fluff rather than power. I already changed to Tactical doctrine at some point in most games because of all the bolt rifles in my list.
  8. A dedicated "Elite wave" could actually make sense after all those bases you mentioned are covered. This would be veterans and command elements, as I see it. Units like Primaris company veterans, finishing filling out the command characters (I'd expect company champions in here), and something flashy like Primaris terminators or terminator-equivalents.
  9. I'll have to give Wraithbone a try then. The old Averland Sunset spray has been a decent undercoat for me, but if the new undercoats really do go on smoother then that would be a big help. Maybe I'll get one of the smaller pots to test it out for the cleanup phase first.
  10. Yeah, I hadn't painted a vehicle in a while, so that caught me by surprise. My normal method still worked, it just took more coats than usual. Could be smoother, but it works at tabletop distance and I'll be ready to get a more perfect execution next time I do a vehicle. So I'm reasonably satisfied.
  11. While I think I wouldn't use a Chaplain Dreadnought as a primary threat kind of unit, I do think it synergizes pretty well with a few units that work well for us. Along with the Banner of Staganda, it makes Aggressors or Veteran Intercessors into pretty interesting counter-assault units, which can dissuade chargers or be used to clear out an objective. S10 Aggressors with a Heroically Intervening Dreadnought is something I really want to try as an anchor unit that can do without a Captain bubble. So it has a lot of utility if you aren't doing a complete static gunline, and I actually think a list made to cycle through the doctrines should perform pretty well for Fists. Not really what you're looking for, but I think it can fill an interesting niche for us. I'd consider Mortis Contemptors with a bunch of heavy bolters or autocannons for the role you're going for. They don't have nearly the firepower of the Leviathan, but both loadouts are a lot cheaper.
  12. While it's not strictly related to the thread, and I agree with the main points (that is that the points spent on fortifications generally won't be worth it), this gave me an idea for how to make a fortification that's worthwhile. Some sort of command bunker, or an improved comms relay available to a few different fortifications. Which would boost the aura ranges of any embarked characters and maybe do something with command points if the Warlord is embarked (maybe something like the rule on the Damocles Command Rhino where an embarked Warlord makes a Leadership test at the end of the player's turn to gain a command point). The general uselessness of fortifications has bothered me all edition.
