I'm just a guy like you.
Don't play the game or collect & paint minis. Just reading Blacklibrary stuff. That's my thing.

While reading, I'm coming up with ideas for chapters, warbands, etc. Quite a lot, to be honest, and most of them are nothing more than simple concepts. But there are some I have finished in the past (and I'm truly proud of). Just a glimpse:

    - Storm Riders (Hawaiian themed chapter)
    - Imperial Sons (Star Wars Galactic Empire / First Order)
    - Phantom Blades (Raven Guard ish Spartans?)
    - Ashen Blades (Dwarven lore seekers)
    - Dominion of Storms (a realm incl. several chapters, worlds, etc.)

Some ideas, which haven't been completed yet, mostly Primaris:

    - Night Owls (Star Wars Mandalorian)
    - Warbeasts (Warcraft Orcs / Horde)
    - Ebonspears (canon version of my Legion, African, Voodo, Warcraft Zandalari)
    - Cerberan Blades (War Hounds, Spartans)
    - Arcane Blades (Starcraft Dark Templar, stealthy psyker hunters)
    - Star Lords (British Empire, Warcraft Kul Tiras)
    - Windwalkers (Chinese, Warcraft Pandaren)
    - House Toho (Kaiju themed Knight House, Pacific Rim)

Let's see what will be next, eh? ;)

  1. Was able to get a copy for the original prize plus shipping costs. Arrived today and I'm eager to jump at it. The cover looks better than in the preview, imho. I kinda dig the colours. The motif itself could've been a better choice but I won't complain. Happy to finally have something Votann related at all! Rereading their codex, I'm quite hyped to read more about them. Along with Broken Crusade and Valdor (thanks GW for the 12 € voucher haha), I should be more than fine for the coming cold evenings. ;)
  2. I think the codex did a very good job in introducing the Votann and laying the foundations of their culture, society and so on. Currently rereading it and it's on par with the T'au codex, which gave us even more like language, actual sept examples and whatnot. Nonetheless, I agree. More lore would be appreciated. ;)
  3. Hey there, we've been waiting for two years until we finally got a long desired novel about the "recently" introduced "new" faction that is the Leagues of Votann. It was rather quickly sold out (both version) but to my surprise, it hasn't been talked about in here. Is the interest simply non existing or what happened? I, for one, wasn't able to get a copy due to my missing the release but still. Someone should/ might've read or started it by now, right? Very curious about your thoughts about this one. Please, don't turn this into another "Oh god it's Gav" threads. We had our very share of such posts in the past. Imho, his worldbuiling in Luther was superb (and the novel itself) so that's probably what I'm most intrigued of. Cheers, Kel
  4. I'd instantly buy this. A Sabbat World ish book covering the Indomitus Crusade era that is. *edit* What the hell? Did they raise the prizes again? Elemental Council hardback is at 29€. Or is it just a longer story 'cause Broken Crusade, for example, did cost the regular 25?
  5. Is the new Tau novel by Noah Van Nguyen releasing this Saturday, the 23rd or on the 30th?
  6. For real? Do they upload unreleased books on their page now? If so, I wasn't aware. Thought it had already been released and sold out. Well then, seems like a got a appointment, tomorrow. :D Thanks for clarifying!
  7. I'm surprised that we don't have a dedicated thread for the recent Votann novel. Both versions aren't available anymore so someone must had the opportunity to read it or am I too early? Sadly missed the release but I'm very curious about it.
  8. Just ordered it in my local store. Now reading your feedback and I'm very intrigued by what I'm reading. Curious about the focus on the knight aspect of the Templars. Also the timeskip is not an issue for me. I'm happy that they're expanind the timeline and give us another aspect of the new setting. Though I'm curious if there's a decision or a simple handwave/ oversight behind it. Whatever the case, give me more standalone plotlines which aren't art of the main timeframe which is developed by campaign books and whatnot to flesh out the current setting. :)
  9. Well, there it finally is. Gonna check out Consecrated Ground to see if I enjoy Steve's writing and get the book next Saturday. :)
  10. Finally the promised Votann novel! Gav has been pretty good in world building in Lorgar and Luther. Quite optimistic for this one. Definitely the first 40k novel I'll be getting in quite a while. Stylewise, the cover is ok, reminds me of the old ones like the GG series. But the composition and what's been featured is lacking and couldve been better. LE cover is fine for me. Votann do features such bright colours and the symbols are those of the respective League the book's about.
  11. This is a three side long thread about the removal of plastic bags? Are you freaking serious?
  12. When Brother Tyler once contacted me and asked if I'd like to join the ranks of the moderator team, I was flabbergasted at first but of course, I accepted. Being a moderator was a great honor for me and this team was able to bring some new and necessary changes (for example the pronoun adaptations). Change is the only constant thing in life and trying to be stagnant always leads to ruin. A lot would agree with that. Some few don't. It is what it is. Nonetheless, seeing many of those mods I looked up to retiring, was to be honest, a difficult period of time. In the end, reallife catches up on each and everyone of us and throughout the last months, I wasn't able to spend as much time as was needed to fullfill the role of a moderator to the fullest. Hence my decision to retire, as well. I leave with a sad and a happy eye (as the saying goes). Sad to leave a great part of my spent time here behind and happy to leave certain parts of that spent time behind. Some might take a guess as to what I'm talking about @Brother Captain Arkley Thanks, man. If you need anything, you can always pm me, even as a regular Frater. That goes for everyone, of course. @Ace Debonair Thank you, Ace. You were always a constant part of the community! It's members like you that kept me motivated. :D @Doctor Perils <3 To the wider community: thanks for the support and respect you gave me. Always tried to keep the BL section a good place for discussion and exchange. To those mods remaining (you know who you are): <3 Keep it up! Remember to embrace change. Even if you won't like it, the world's keep spinning. To @Chaplain Lucifer and @Brother Lunkhead all the best in the world! You earned your retirement. Cheers, Kel
  13. Seriously though, I'd be very very happy if someone like Dan would take a chance with them. :)
  14. Obsidian Sentinels Black armor, right arm + pauldron in sand/ golden colour Based on Sardaukar and Fremen, House Corrino emblem as chapter symbol Could either go with Ultima Founding and replacing a lost chapter (mayhaps the Obsidian Blades, who were basically extinguished during the Red Waaagh) or with an earlier founding and just treat them as a regular chapter. The emergence and addition of Primaris vanguard forces created a shift in their combat doctrine and culture. While the vanguard focus way more on hit and run tactics and flanking manoeuvres, they're taking inspiration from their homeworlds desert people while the majority of the chapter continues to be the unrelenting warriors of the Emperor. The chapter creation table also gave me: animal companions and don't make use of Devastor marines which would fit the infantry based source material quite well Animal companions could be eagles or lion-esque creatures (no wolfrider equivalents!) Geneseed officially via Ultramarines but I think Iron Warriors would be quite fitting, as well An alternative concept I'd have liked to explore instead of the Knight Household of Toho.
