  1. I truly doubt that the question and answer is why the comments are currently under review, but rather as you say well here it's where the conversation quickly started centering around. As a former Mod I can perhaps shed some light on this. If the report function is used by members actively viewing the topic the reaction time can be swift. Otherwise, it's up to someone happening across the topic and comments in question. Timezones and life get in the way of efficiency there. There is also always conversation on the reports between members of the Mod team and action is rarely taken without consensus. This can also add some time to it, though since reports are shown as their own notifications I'd say it's nominal. As for leftover comments, there were times in the past where I would be pruning a topic and while I am doing my work further comments are made. Like how right now I'm typing away and when I hit post there may be unread messages around mine depending on the timing of everyone's involvement. Sometimes these can slip under the radar for a while, or even indefinitely in some cases I'm sure, but more often a member of the team will come in and continue to edit comments. In any instance, there's always direct messages for specific inquiries if someone feels spurned by the actions of the Mods. On the topic of book reviews, I just finished the Vaults of Terra trilogy. Truly a fun series of books! I enjoyed the character arcs and overall "whodunnit" vibe, though I'll have to take a moment to correspond with my notes on what the overall implications are as I've read much of the Indomitus era out of order. The ending was a little...confusing is what I'll go with. I'm not sure if the revelations are just for the reader or for the wider universe just yet. Still good though! I'm also re-reading Devastation of Baal as a break from new information and am reminded of how uniquely written the Tyranid perspective was. I don't think I've ever read another interpretation like this, though I haven't read many novels featuring Nids. The person reading the audiobook and the quality of the audio edits has me looking at my bookshelf, but I can listen to far more than I can read in a day.
  2. You're quite correct. From the forum rules: No off-topic discussions We're here to discuss the hobby, not politics, nationalism, religion, social/sociopolitical issues, sexuality or moral/ethical debates (or cars, or sports, or the latest movie, etc.).
  3. I too love my Flyer models. I had two Stormravens before the unit type even existed, and though I sold one I still have two Doom Scythes. My Vendetta is long gone to another owner but perhaps it still exists as I converted it despite being Legends at best by now. I even used to play and still own the rules of GW's minigame Stormcloud Attack, though I admit the Flyer rules that basically added a 2nd 6x4 table to the game at the end of 7th were wildly clunky. The supplement was called Death From the Skies I think. I also agree that 10th edition is quite fun to play. Specifically, the lack of restrictions in army building is quite liberating and allows for both competitive and total fluff armies equally. For Flyers I think that being hit on 5+ would be an interesting middle ground for the rules that I've experienced. Access to Skyfire would be the way to mitigate the restriction instead of to-hit modifiers in my mind.
  4. It took me a while, but I think I've narrowed down my pettiest peeve about 10th edition to two things. Terrain silhouettes and prescribed table layouts. I only played one game of 9th before dubbing it "the lawyers edition" and switching to painting/reading hobby involvement. This reminds me of that. I don't begrudge people for playing this way at all but I avoid it when I can. Flyers being about as useful as paper airplanes being thrown over the table. Snapshots + skyfire in 7th was a bit too tough, and -1 to hit in 8th was sort of meh, but now they truly seem useless. I'd love to see a change to their durability and perhaps movement mechanics for the next edition.
  5. I had a lot of fun playing 7th edition, and while I don't have an overall insight into the mechanics anymore I do remember some acute pains I faced. Formations handing out must-have rules but being super specific on the units you need. For my Necrons I remember it was a token Tomb Blade for better Reanimation rolls across the army, or a Spyder to be able to take Wraiths. Formations also came to each faction slowly, with some simply unable to compete until the end of the edition. Psychic powers being off the chain and hard to counter. I specifically recall Kaldor Draigo and the 2++ with rerolls. It took an extravagant number of attacks to bring that bastard down. Skyfire being an afterthought added into armies to deal with Flyers. I liked how Flyers worked, but -having- to take a flakk missile squad in addition to my Stormraven was weak. On that note, the Heldrake specifically ignored firing arcs and cooked Marines like Trogdor burninates the countryside. I habitually faced two at a time in lists and it was honestly easier going up against two Daemon Primarchs in one game in 8th. There's a lot of good stuff I like from the edition, and I'd play it again if there were people around me interested. I'd probably have an easier time finding people to play 8th though since I find a lot of people I've met over the last few years entered or returned to the hobby around that point.
  6. There's two entries on the Black Library site that list the Ghoul Stars as the setting. Severed, a Necron book by Nate Crowley, and Helbrecht: The Crusader, a Black Templar short story by Guy Haley. Perhaps they're worth looking into?
  7. I had a pretty cool (to me, anyway) lore moment the other day. It made me appreciate the depth of story that has developed over the last few decades. I've kept up with the lore for many years at this point, but recently focused in on the post-8th setting. I got through the Dawn of Fire series, which bounced around a lot but was overall enjoyable, and decided to take a break with some older Necron lore. While getting through Nightbringer (2002) I noticed a name drop from Gate of Bones (2021), one of the characters was going off on a tirade about "Imperium bad" and I caught Cardinal Bucharis in a list of tyrants. Hoping that there are no coincidences in 40k like that (there are, but not this time!) I set off to Google to find information. Turns out the not-so-good Cardinal's story began in the 2nd edition Sisters of Battle Codex (1997). Reading that excerpt from the old Codex felt like a rare moment of reading unredacted 40k lore. It detailed the parts of the Plague of Unbelief that were ancient forgotten knowledge in Gate of Bones as if it was recent history. Glorious. I liked the book a fair bit to begin with but this gave me a whole new appreciation of Andy Clark's work here. 40k is such a sprawling setting it felt great finding this sort of connection. I recommend Gate if Bones, and if you've already read it I recommend looking up a PDF of the old SoB 'dex to read the Plague of Unbelief short story inside. I also really enjoyed Nightbringer, even though it's Ultramarines. It was a really interesting piece older lore. It did make me appreciate the depth of character that Necrons have been given over the years, but as a long time Nightbringer fan I definitely enjoyed that it wasn't a Shard but the real deal.
  8. If it is BA, and the final few Firstborn kits get updated, it would be cool to see the BA helmet colours in the cover art and paint jobs. Red Tactical/Intercessors, blue Devastators, gold Vanguard Veterans (or yellow on veteran Assault, GW does as it wants). Chaplain with jump pack comes along for the ride with the Vanguard.
  9. I think I'll likely end up playing Questoris Companions most often, but I am also curious about how Spearhead at Arms will play out. I think I like the stratagems and enhancements more in QC, but buffing all my Armigers at once is also quite salient an option. I think I'll end up playing Crusader, Errant, Paladin/Gallant most often for my three Knights. Feel free to post up with how your games turn out, it would be good to hear how things are going with the book in hand.
  10. I forget that console players have to pay an additional cost for online play. If you can get some online play, go for it. PvE is this entire game for me. I'll likely grind out the PvP achievements eventually, but Operations, Siege Mode, and Stratagems are where I've spent a couple hundred hours of my gaming time.
  11. I suppose I should say that I've always kept up to date in the lore through novels and campaign books, but recently have kicked it up and really gotten into the Era Indomitus novels. To speak on a spot of lore dear to my heart, I'd love to see GW do something with a loose and independent C'Tan shard. Specifically, on a quest collecting shards of itself and subjugating Tomb Worlds to build an army along the way. No need to get rid of any of the other lore that exists, and recreates a key aspect of the OldCron lore. I've come to like the idea of Shards more over the years, but recently reading Nightbringer (2002) was the tipping point. I quite liked the book, but the depiction of a Shard at the end of one of the Fabius Bile books got my imagination spinning more.
  12. I'd be happy if they made the new heroic weapons into skins as well as the weapons, like all the other weapons are. They're cool but it would be a lot cooler if I could use the xenophase blade as a skin for my typical fencing selection.
  13. I used to think that I didn't like the new lore, that it wasn't grimdark anymore. Then I spent the last couple months listening to a slew of books from the events of Fall of Cadia through to the Lion's awakening and my opinion changed. If anything I now have a plethora of descriptions of human life and the state of the Imperium much more grim than before. I took a break and listened to some older books, early 2000s stuff, and it wasn't any more grim or dark than the new stuff. I think the thing I would appreciate most is improved continuity in the book releases. For example, the Dawn of Fire series. Book 1, Indomitus, and book 9 tether a plot together where books 2-8 bounce around. I'm now listening to the 3-book series starting with The Carrion Throne and was pleased when the same characters showed up in the subsequent book, The Hollow Mountain.
  14. I appreciate the insight, Focslain! I really hadn't considered the ability change on the Paladin, in truth I was very focused on battle cannons since they seemed like the best all around weapon. I guess it comes down to my main anti armour, the thing that can one-shot average vehicles consistently, being a Gallant, Lancer, Castellan, or Defender. The three Warglaives aren't insignificant either. Perhaps I just need to accept I'm buying five big bots? Ha! I do face a fair bit of armour, but it's concentrated in Guard tank lists. Most people use a good spread of vehicle to infantry. As much as I would lean into anti armour shooting, I'm really not against running up and punching some tanks. As it stands with how my magnetizing efforts over the weekend went, I'll have a Knight that's a Paladin/Gallant (built) and another that could be a Crusader/Paladin/Warden (next up). I guess I've really just got to decide between getting a Defender/Errant/Preceptor or a Castellan to round out my 2k list. I'll definitely be bouncing around the two assassins, the Callidus jumping around to objectives and the Vindicare sniping characters are both valuable assets.
  15. Greetings and salutations fellow Nobles. I've yet to play my Knights, but I've got almost my whole collection bought and just over half of it built. I've still got one Knight left to buy and I'm wondering if I can lean on some more veteran experience here to find out how some units are doing in game. Currently, I'm looking at using three Questoris and six Armigers. A Crusader, Paladin, and Gallant backed up by three each Helverins and Warglaives. There's room for the pennant of silvered fury on my Gallant in a Questoris Companions detachment. Weapons will be magnetized, and I've got the battleforce box Knight and the new Defender box so far with intent to get the Preceptor box last to round out weapon options. I also have Vindicare and Callidus assassin models, and could drop an Armiger to free up points to swap Knight classes and/or take more enhancements. What I'm wondering is if it's worth dropping one of the Questoris for either a Dominus (magnets, but likely most often a Castellan), or a Cerastus Lancer. The Castellan would add some always agreeable anti-tank, but I'm not entirely sure the Lancer would be better than the Gallant. It would look a heck of a lot cooler though, and both options mean one less set of static Questoris legs Has anyone used either of these Knight options, and how has it been going?
