  1. Depends on how you plan to use them. I like 10 man squads because I can run 4 of them vs 2 20 man squads and Infiltrate them onto 4 objectives to start the game. I also tend to run randomly numbered squads a lot when I have a few extra points but not enough to take something worthwhile.
  2. The best tip you will ever receive for that model: MAGNETIZE. HIS. JUMP. PACK. The wings are super fragile and will snap if you look at them funny. But you can assemble his whole jump pack with the wings on it and use a magnet to attach it to his back, while being able to remove them for transport. I've had him in a foam tray in my army case for a year and a half, and his wings haven't broken yet.
  3. I haven't sold my 40k RG off, but at this point I don't trust GW to not sodomize them with a hot poker in the new edition. So I'm in "wait and see" mode. If they screw my Ravens over again I'll probably just pick another faction entirely to play in 10th edition, because I really don't want to play any other Marines. Shrike's rules look cool though. Can't even be *targeted* by a shooting attack if more than 12" away, along with the unit he joins.
  4. The pic is pants, but here's a WIP of my 7 man Nemesis bolter/power sword Veteran squad. Probably going to stick them in a drop pod.
  5. I plan on getting a Cerberus too. But I think it's going to the Iron Hands. I'm planning on doing enough Iron Hands to run one Legion as a primary detachment and the other as allies, with the ability to flip who is where. I'm also giving my Shadowsword to the Iron Hands for 3500+ point games. Because a superheavy with 12 hull points that can't be one shot killed and has an Iron Father fixing it every turn as well as a 5+ IWND just sounds mean. Especially when you consider that the volcano cannon basically automatically penetrates every armor value I've seen yet. (S14, rolls 3d6 and discards the lowest for armor pen. The lowest possible result is 16. Even a flare shield is no help against it)

  7. Cataphractii Praetor. My plan is for him to be Shade-captain Syban Nethkal, the last captain of the Deliverers, as mentioned in the Siege of Cthonia book.
  8. Kratos tank that will be doing double duty as both RG and IH.
  9. It has value though when you consider all the buffs to units characters give.
  10. From someone with significant experience with Heresy 2.0: You want to have enough Cataphractii to run at least 10 Deliverers, preferably up to 15 if you can swing it. They are SO good it's scary. Consensus among my play group is they are the best terminator unit in the game. Battle hardened means they can't be Instant Deathed by S8 or S9 (they can take a wound from a lascannon and be fine), and they get a pair of Raven's Talons for 10 points, with which they can kill dreadnoughts in exchange for losing maybe 2 guys. Rending (5+) with Shred is really good when you have 50+ attacks at WS5. Oh, and they have Deep Strike built into their rules, so you don't need to spend the points on a Spartan to transport them. Did I mention they can take multimeltas? Trust Claws and build Deliverers. You'll be glad you did.
  11. This right here is why I switched to Horus Heresy. That and it's just a much better balanced game overall. It has it's flaws, but I've enjoyed losing games of Heresy more than winning games of 9th. That and my Raven Guard actually play like the lore suggests they should in Heresy. I'll give 10th a shot. I still have my 40k Raven Guard and my Deathwatch. But since I like Heresy so much, I'm not going to feel like I HAVE to play 10th if I don't like it. Oh, and @duz_. One of those Rhinos I got from you has a new life as a Scorpius, and it does some WORK for me. Single-handedly won one of my games last weekend and was a significant threat in every game.
  12. It's about 50/50 actually. Veterans and some other units are often depicted with white shoulder pads and the rest of the armor in black. The number of black transfers is to facilitate that.
  13. I used Recon Company exclusively throughout the event. Had never used it before and wanted to give it a thorough test. Day 1 was an attrition event. 1500-1250-1000 points. I had a Recon squad with Nemesis bolters, a Scout squad with Nemesis bolters, a Mor Deythan squad with Nemesis bolters (sensing a pattern?), a Delagatus with (you guessed it!) a Nemesis bolter, a Contemptor with a Kheres and a fist, a pair of lascannon/multimelta Javelins, and a Scorpius. First game was against Alpha Legion. They needed to destroy 3 objectives to win. I killed the heavy weapons they needed to do that before they could. Games 2 and 3 both started with Night Fighting in play, which worked out great for me. Emperors Children in game 2, Word Bearers in game 3. Ended up tabling them both with bullets out of the darkness. Day 2 was different. I played 2 doubles games with my wife as my partner and we actually coordinated our lists to work well together. Decisive 23-4 victory for game 1. Game 2 was closer, 7-6. The last game was the only game I lost and a lot of it was because I got a bad draw. I had to defend 4 buildings against the Iron Warriors with Perturabo. My list was not designed to defend static locations that could be destroyed. I lost that one badly on points, even though I didn't lose many models. Games 1 and 2 I was paired with my wife's Blood Angels vs Iron Warriors and World Eaters and vs Thousand Sons of Horus.
  14. So I played in the Heresy event at this year's Bugeater GT in Omaha, NE. Went 5-1 overall, and 3-0 on day 1.
  15. I'm looking into adding some Iron Hands allies using the Company of Bitter Iron RoW to gain some hard to shift objective holders in the Medusan Immortals. And also because it will effectively give me a second HS slot if my primary detachment is Decapitation Strike. Anyone tried that yet, and what were the results? I'm trying to build a narrative army around some Istvaan V survivors that were mostly Raven Guard but also included Salamanders and Iron Hands.
