  1. So finished this the other day and I must say this was better than expected. I understood why Gav and Guy wanted to tell this story, though like many others here have said already, it does not drive the main plot forward enough and thus could of benefitted being part of some other series. I loved all the story and world building elements set on Fenris, I feel Gav really gets the space wolves tonally. Logans apprehension and distrust was justifiably played out, though for me his end decision came about abit too abruptly and was not entirely believable. Gaius was great as was Gytha there journey was the highlight for me, though I do love Fenris anytime an author goes back there and does it justice. The plot with Mudire And Vychellon was nothing more than a side story with teases of what's to come though interesting, felt a little lacking. Overall I enjoyed it and would recommend it to any space wolf fan as well as, for those wishing for a little tease on the forward plot for the Dawn of Fire series.
  2. Well that's more like it, an updated coming soon by BL. What a bizarre coincidence! I'm very happy about Day of Ascension, was surprised it didn't show up on BL live with it being a brand new established author. The bookkeepers skull sounds very interesting and it's warhammer horror 40k which has me doubly intrigued. Without sound too pessimistic, heres to hoping they keep the coming soon updated regularly for 2022.
  3. Agreed the anthology Divination really added alot of needed character development for each of Covenants retinue. This for me really helped my read of his second covenant novel Incarnation. Speaking of which Incarnation was a much better book in both story and setting, the fact it is set on one world really worked and all the clues he lays out throughout in regards to the Emperor trying to manifest in some form, was both fascinating and intriguing. I've since read it a second time and I enjoyed it even more, as other details I had not picked up on, during my first read through came to light and added even more nuance. John french really found his stride with this one, I highly recommend anyone who was put out off by the first one, to give it a go.
  4. I'm on the fence with this one, I shall wait for your final thoughts once you've finished it.
  5. Not a bad preview as previews go, missing some big name writers (Wraight, ADB) but at least we have some interesting material coming from some of the less known authors. Kingmaker by Robert rath sounds great, that cover however, I can't un see the Brettonian helmet their climbing over. Huron black heart by Mike brooks is a hell yeah! again not liking either of these covers. Sigismund was a surprise, I am interested to see what more can be added here. XENOS limited edition looks fabulous will definitely buy that if possible. Very happy for Ravenor Rogue limited edition as I have the other editions. I for one liked the Ahriman trilogy so Ahriman eternal is a definite, however will wait for a regular edition as the big fancy edition does not appeal to me this time. The cover for ADB's siege novel looks spectacular!!!
  6. Top three for me were 1.Penitant by Dan Abnett well worth the wait, phenomenal! 2.Alpharius by Mike brooks easily one of the top Primarchs novels to come. 3.Warhawk by Chris Wraight fantastic depiction of the current state of the siege of Terra with a fresh take on Mortarion that really worked for me.
  7. Thank you DukeLeto, I am aware of ADB's status it was not him I was refering to but BL (sorry if that did not come across). Why do they (BL) not just announce them? why are we hearing about them via forums and twitter accounts? I'm not after dates i'm more interested in actual facts from the publisher. Same as all the other authors really i'm aware via here and other forums the rumours and whispers about what they are working on, just no official reveal. I simply cant understand why. In regards to Darkchaplain I could not agree with you more, the shortages because of print delays simply does not fly at all. Like yourself I read from many other publsihers and many other I.P's and they have not had any trouble so why BL publishing? Its this lack of communication from BL that is frustrating me. The coming soon section needs a serious looking into. I use to love coming here on Bolter and chainsword and speculating about upcoming books and now well...... there is not much to speculate about at all. Its a shame really.
  8. This is becoming very sad now by BL. This has to be the bleakest December run up to Christmas i've seen at BL in years. Where are the books? Where are the authors? The back log in publishing that some has alluded to seems not to affected any other publisher (at least none of the ones I read). WHAT IS GOING ON! I'm still waiting for the Ravenor Rogue limited edition, I have the first two but no word on the final one? Where is ADB these days? he has two series (Black Legion and Emperors spears) plus his Siege of Terra novel and not a single peep from BL when? Fair enough Chris has had a recent release but what about his Custode's series and his inquisitor series? Is he working on something else? Of course the master himself Dan Abnett has not had much in releases recently, there was the Ghosts prequal which was only a short novel a while back, but since then, again no word on what he's dong next? Would love to know what Guy Haley is working on next? As well as john French? Im hoping he's working on his inquisition series, as they were, for me fantastic! Anyone know what Mike Brooks is working on? I was expecting at least some more Primarch books by now and the Dawn of Fire series seems to be whimpering away somewhat. Honestly I don't know what to look forward to anymore! I have kept a load of money aside for the usual ''surprise here are 3 limited editions by Black libraries top author's coming this Saturday'' aaaaannddddd................nothing. Oh there was the limited edition of The wolftime (no internal art, maps or anything to justify its price) Oh there was the rerelease of Mcneils Mechanicus trilogy (again no internal art, maps or anything to justify the price tag) and yet the Ravenor series is printed one book at a time instead of a trilogy like this?? If anyone could shed some light on just golly gee is going on with this publisher that be great. P.S. Sorry for my rant i'm just super frustrated with the lack of communication.
  9. This is exactly what I want. I could not agree more! I think John French is a strong contender, he has expressed how he likes writing about them in seminars. I think Rob sanders could do a good job as the Primarch novella by him 'The serpent beneath' was a stand out novella from that anthology. However the big BUT shall we say, was that his 40k alpha legion novel 'Sons of the hydra' was for me very lacklustre.
  10. I hope the Sanguinius and Horus show down will be from other perspectives to give it more gravitas, but I feel that the scene, will need to go into Sanguinius's thoughts for all the precursor set ups that have been laid down in previous HH books in particular 'Ruinstorm'. The chink in the armour has already been placed with Russ (so a repeat of this just cheapens everything) so I feel the chink in the armour from Sanguinius could be more metaphorical in nature. Also the description's around Sanguinius are very spiritual in nature, I feel there is a lot of potential here, as well as the fact that both Sanguinius and Horus were very close which in itself will create some implications. As to Vulkan i'm really hoping we get to see him do something pretty epic, he really needs some spotlight if you ask me.
  11. I for one would like BL to take some big steps to change the old fluff. I for one would be down with the Khan being killed (as long as it is done very well and he goes out bloody). However, my 40k white scars lore is lacking somewhat, does the khans disappearance reflect much or referred much in current white scars culture at all?
  12. With the arrival of Corswains dark angels i'm very much looking forward to seeing where this goes. Back in Chris Wraights 'Wolf King' did not Russ form an alliance with some dark angels forts. I was wondering whatever happened to that story line thread?
  13. This has been a truly fascinating thread. To weigh in here with a lot less words, this for me is by far my favourite Siege of Terra novel. I thought Dan nailed every single element of this book. There was so much rich content that I need to read it all again. Mind-blowingly brilliant! I would put it up there with 'know no fear' and 'Legion' as one of Dan's best HH contributions.
  14. So I finished this today and I must say 'this is exactly what I needed since Pariah'. I have been hoping for something of this nature for so long and now we are finally getting it. Chris Wraight was the absolute best choice to start this off with his amazing world building and perfect tone setting for this series. I cant wait to get stuck into the anthology 'No Good Men' to delve even more.
