  1. Well, the claw is certainly a lot worse if you need to roll a 63 on a d6 to hit. As for the lascannon, if it came out at the same time as the codex, you would think was an actual design choice by GW as part of its philosophy that "Emperor's Children can't be shooty". Fortunately, though, its just a typo - though I'm sure it will trigger some people's PTSD. @Slaanbull - good luck on your tourney and getting your models ready for it. Not sure if my defiler fits on a 160mm base - I was hoping to pick one up to find out, but both they and the new defiler were sold out in the short time that passed before I realised the preorders were up. So it will have to remain baseless for now.
  2. As always, love to read about your games. You seem inordinantly blessed with chill and pleasant opponents - which may say as much about your own temperament as theirs. If the C'tan is accurate the model the player used, it makes sense it ate your maulers, as that's the specifically anti-vehicle C'tan. As well, if the character you took out is the new destroyer cult special character, kuddos on doing so - that guy is a beast (at least per his datasheet - haven't faced him on the table).
  3. While I wasn't able to snag the new defiler model when it went on preorder, I'm looking forward to fielding my previous kitbash in my EC list, where it will give me some much needed firepower. Don't currently have all the options modelled, so for now it will be the battlecannon, excrutiator, lascannon and heavy missile build (I also have the autocannon + the flail and baleflamer [but not at the same time for those 2 as its currently built]). I plan to build another twin lascannon and twin autocannon, a differently mounted baleflamer, a different set of excrutiators (for now I'll be using a combibolter for such, but I want something that looks punchier) and a pair of magna cutters, but those can wait - that will give it all the options but the ectoplasm, which really isn't something I can easily do given the existing model so am content with not having for that particular model. Also sold out are 160mm bases, so I was unable to pick one of those up either for my existing, currently baseless, defiler. Probably pick up 2 when they become available, as I'm thinking of building a 3rd defiler (as I'll be getting the GW one when they restock) out of the the AoS Glutos kit as per @Valkyrion's excellent idea. In the meantime, I've finished doing the capes for my third squad of new model noise marines, and am waiting for the snow to finally go away (winter still isn't fully gone here) so that I can prime and then base coat those and my 2 5-man infractor squads. I also really need to get to painting my second new model noise marine squads - I kind of stalled out on the second guy when I noticed I had gotten the orange on the cape different from the first model I did. Think I figured out how I should have painted it, so will get back on that as soon as can pick up a brush rather than playing computer games.
  4. Yeah, those faces are great, even if they took you far less time than they would for TC or myself. While I think they might look better oriented the other direction, I don't feel whatever difference that might make warrants repainting them, as they do look very nice. As for more obliterators, I suspect that if you intend to keep playing the new detachment you will want at least another squad, as they seem the best target for the detachment's uppy-downy effects. Obliterators are kind of weird, conversion wise - unless one is very familiar with the models, conversions to them are very difficult to pick out. When I posted my own converted, generally folks didn't notice the difference until I called it out and/or put them next to my unconverted models. I guess its because they are monstrosities with ridiculous amounts of random guns, and outside of drastic conversions that's what they will look like after the changes as well - personally, its the head swap that I find the most noticeable for mine, as the bare versus helmeted head is comparatively noticeable. I suspect that I only noticed your change because the attention I gave my own in converting them. BTW, I look forward to seeing any more that you might do, and feel free to use (or modify) my arm/head swap conversions. And I do remember that FW armour, though I was more familiar with the imperial version, as I wasn't into chaos until well later. Never had any of either, though - just aware of it through GW photos and the FW website. And I go remember having to pay points for it (and that it degraded stun to shaken on the vehicle damage chart) - I scratch built some of my own for one of my 3rd/4th ed. sisters rhinos/immolators.
  5. Welcome! Though I'm by far more of a modeller (and painter) than a player, I've really enjoyed the 10th games that I have played. Here's hoping that 11th ed. will make the game even better. I hope you enjoy it as well, and I look forward to you sharing your work.
  6. Those are all really nice, @WhoMeYesYou - I've merged them all into one thread for ease of reference and response.
  7. Those look great, though some thoughts on the rhinos. a) I feel the heads in the cupolas (particularly the one on the right) look a bit unfinished. Maybe do the cabling/tubes in another colour? A blue-grey like GW's The Fang might look nice. b) I don't know if the back hatches on the rhinos are glued down, but if not I feel that the mask symbol would look better oriented the other direction (so, looking back, rather than forward). c) I like the "spaced armour" and doors on the right rhino - those 3d prints? Your oblits are surprisingly colourful, but they look really nice. The yellow-brown basing is a great choice, as it provides a nice warm contrast to all that cold metal. I assume you converted the blue one, as I remember the shoulder gun normally being on the other side and the ammo can having a different front. If you want to build more and make them look different, sawing off the arms and swapping them between models can look quite effective (though that will likely require that you replace the power cords), as can head swaps with different models (the heads from the hellbrute kit work well).
  8. Deployment zones do seem to be quite a bit smaller (about 25%, though usuable space will be even less diagonal deployments), with what looks like a 30" no man's zone - depending on the reserve rules (and whether rapid ingress exists and under what limitations), I feel that means that more is going to end up in reserves. That said, if you need to come in within 6" of the board edge without negative consequences, that means that the defiler won't be a wanting to do that, as its base is about 6.5" wide. Yeah, I can see how mutilators are a particularly good fit for Iron Warriors in terms of aethetics. I don't dislike that look, its just kind of "meh" for me - and yes, they are a huge improvement over the old ones, which were arguably GW's ugliest model when they were released and have only gotten worse with time. And yes, they seem like the natural place to put Kravek, so if you plan on fielding him it makes sense you would want them as well. And yes, the mortal wound thing is for the unit so affects characters, but I also think its only for models that themselves get within 1" (before pile ins), so much of the time I think its unlikely to get it to trigger on more than a couple of models, except for short charge distances and/or large accessible unit frontages. I think you hit the nail on the head as to why I don't plan to get any with your comments regarding possessed - they largely do fill the same role, and I much prefer the aesthetic of the possessed for my army and really like the models I've painted and converted, so would rather just continue to play those.
  9. Thanks, @W.A.Rorie, @The Pounder, @BrotherCaptainArkhan, @Rusted Boltgun, @Brother Christopher and @Bonehead - I'm glad you all like it. BrotherCaptainArkhan, I agree - I'm really happy how I was able to update the old kit while still keeping it still looking like the old model. At first I was concerned about how high up the "box" that the cuppola rests on was, as I had to boost it even higher than it sat on the old model to get the geometries to work, but at the end of the day I think that helped preserve the old school look. I was also considering not putting on the front shield/dozer for the same reason, but happily I think my build both fits the old look and the new, so I'm happy with it. Rusted Boltgun, the cardboard template was indeed a big help - cutting the thicker card that I used for the spars is a bit of a pain, and being able to have a consistent yardstick made out of a stiff but more cutable material was a huge help in getting them to have close to the same shape (some additional shaving was required, particularly the pieces that weren't cut from the edge of the plasticard sheet). I like the contrast between the multiple rivets on the hull and the fewer rivets on the plow, though logically the distribution should be reversed and I'll probably try it that way should I chaosify and 40k-ize the 30K model. Brother Christopher, I don't think the build itself is particularly impressive, as its a pretty simple shape. That said, I think its pretty effective in kind of a brutal way, which is fitting for the model even if the thickness at the bottom doesn't make much practical sense. I had planned to put "teeth" at the bottom, as I had the IG/AM bulldozer sitting on my desk the whole time (and had originally considered simply modifying one of those - happy I didn't, as that would have been both more difficult and less effective, I think) but as I got to the end of the build, I decided I didn't have any good plans for getting the right shape to the teeth (and lacked the energy to try) and thinking it looked fine without, I decided not to. Maybe something for me to try for the 30K model. Bonehead, you had posted in my Heretic Astartes forum thread. Unfortunately, there isn't really a good way to get wider audience feedback (from folks like Brother Christopher, who isn't yet an chaos collector) while also not hollowing out participation in the army subforum. As such, I kind of try to ride both horses by posting it in both. Not the ideal answer to that dilemma, but the best I can come up with. Regardless, I appreciate both feebacks.
  10. Thanks, @Bonehead! Someday, I hope to have 3 vindicators (this one, a regular one, and a 30K one) and look forward to seeing them all side by side and painted.
  11. Looking forward to seeing your work! Maybe 3rd times the charm for Call to Arms?
  12. That's super clean green stuff molding - fantastic work. Straps are also super crisp. Plus, nice work on those shield notches - much cleaner and more even than my own attempts at same, despite being far smaller in scale (mine were on my knight gatling cannon shields). Seems like we had similar weekends - both working on projects that were time consuming, unsatisfying to do, but with which we are happy with the results. And you should totally go chaos - we know you like the aesthetic, you already have the purple... plus, free tentacles!
  13. Looking good! I was thinking for your "non-kroot", you might want to do them in red urban camo (so, urban camo, but reds, brown and black rather than gray, blue and black) to help them look more infiltratey.
  14. Love your plague marines, Norman - they really pop. If I were to quibble, I do think you should go brighter blue on the plasma coils.
  15. Your night lords are gorgeous - so many thoughtful details, like the skulls on the saturnine termies.
