Hey I like these man...but theres just something missing....They seem a bit "flat" idk if that the right word but maybe try some highlights? oh and washes will definately add some depth! that might be what Im thinking is missing but i do like em and would love to see more! keep em rolling :)

that's the same thing I was thinking

Cheers guys :tu: I do use washes for the dark green and the yellow, its the teal-ish colour that I can't seem to match up. I've had many recommendations for a black and a brown wash, so I might get them soon. Highlights I'm weak at so I need practise in that art.

Again, thanks B)

And I did highlighting on the cape, which I thought looked good

I can see your painting is improving, keep it up. The captain has much more depth then your previous marines.

A little piece of advice to add some more depth: Try leaving a little blkac line showing on place where armour over laps. For example, look at the feet.

something is wrong here...Hubernator, you have a LOT of posts, yet this painting definitely is not what I would expect of you. The base paint jobs are good, but the lack of highlights and decent washes is really messing with me. Oh well, thing are looking ok...just work on you highlights and shadows. That, and please work on your marines' eyes, they're terribly flat!

I'm rubbish with eyes hence why they look so flat to you. Honestly, I have tried. Highlighting it's a similar story.

I have lots of posts because when I first joined the site I was sorta adamant to poke my face in everywhere to make my presence known ;)

To make they eyes of your marine lesss 'flat': start with a dark colour, then paint over this with a light colour leaving some of the previous coat in the recesses and finally, paint a dot of white in the far corner to represent reflection. Never tried this myself, but it does work. Good luck with your eyes :D

Do you mind If I asked, what are the three main colours you used? (greed, light blue and yellow?) I wanna have a try at this scheme for something... ;)

Cheers dude :)

EDIT: Just compared your captain with one of your earlier models... Much better! :verymad:

EDIT 2: Oh btw, what brushes do you use? For the eyes I'd recommend the GW fine detail one :)

EDIT 3: ... oh, I forgot... :)

@JT874: Yeah I remember seeing a tutorial on the old GW site before it was revamped. I think I've got that somewhere.

@Metcalfedan: The colours are my mix of green, a lighter shade of Hawk Turquoise and yellow. The green is about 3-4 parts of Formula P3 Gnarloc Green and 2 part Hawk Turquoise. The lighter shade is 1-1 Hawk Turquoise to Skull White. Yellow is Golden yellow down, the Sunshine Yellow on top. I'll be interested to see any results :D

PS: Hope you liked the metallic guy I did :)

Cool, I don't quite have all of those colours but I'm going to have a go with what I have, and try to make it resemble your guys as close as possible:) cheers.

Oh and that metallic guy is nice! Would you mind if I put a picture or two on my website?

I know this sounds stupid but.. When mixing your paint what kind of amounts do you use, for example 1-1 hawk turquiose and skull white, how much is each '1' roughly? ta :)

By one I mean one part. So if say you had a smallish brush and you wanted to make the light turquoise, you dip it in the turquoise first then put down on a mixing palette (of sorts). Then you clean the brush and dip it about the same amount in the white and mix together. I've found though ot get the colour I want I get the base colour then mix in the next one until it's the right shade.

Oh and anyone trying to make such a scheme and not using the P3 paint, I think DA Green won't exactly be a good match :P

yep. definately. you should use the Badab black wash. it'll make your models look very much better. and then, those paint jobs will look like they deserve ;P

nice models, even without the washes.

You might want to(at least, i want you to)freehand somthing on the front of the banner, like the chapter icon or a mural of some kind, instead of trying to encourage you fellow brother marines with a large patch of the chapter colour, you catch my meaning??

Ah yes, you've picked up the banner. Yes, I have a good reason for it's blankness. You see, I don't game much :D And I haven't won a match yet. So, when I win a match properly and failry against someone, I will (try to) paint it to show my glorious victory ;) Until then, it'll remain blank.
