Hi There!

Just posting some pictures on my current project.

The painting is not up to the highest standard but it works for me

Some pictures might be a little bit dodgy...

Please feel free to comment :)

:P :P B) Win...ultra win. Where'd the spiky bits all over the tank come from? And the shield? And the whooping stick? And the shoulder armor sawblade trim thingies? My one note of criticism: that is a really long banner pole.

Phenomenal. The poses, the kitbashing/converting, the highlighting, the battle damage and weathering... All phenomenal. This is how I imagine all Space Marines, as unrepentant bringers of death and destruction. You, sir, have made my day. Your army is iconic and, for me, unforgettable.

Hot damn! I have seen some mighty nice Flesh Tearers armies before. I have even seen some that are better painted.

But I have seen none that I like better than these.

With regard to the Blood God, Khorne needs to get on his knees and beg these guys for lessons in baddassery. There is a new Blood God in town, and his name is Arne.

OK, I don't wanna rain on your parade, but I will  Everyone gave you praise, I will spice it up with a little critique :(

These models are really awesome when it comes to the whole theme idea, posing, kitbashing etc, they look like a bunch of real mean mothers :) But one thing you could try to improve is the brushwork itself - it is a bit sloppy here and there, the red elements have smears of black and the other way around; the blue eyes could use some "lensing", as they are the focal point of every mini, standing out of the black-red mass like this.

Also the metal elements could use a little more careful shading and highlighting, with deeper shades and brighter, more crisp highlights, as without it they tend to look aluminium-dull.

Third and the last thing - battle damage and weathering. Now these are pretty tricky things to do and the "less is more" rule pretty often applies here; such extent of battle damage at first sight makes the models look not weathered and realistic, but just sloppy. Remember the scale - when a hard surface scratches on some concrete, rocks or even combat blades, the scratches will be relatively small and subtle, while on your models it looks like the paint was not scratched but peeled in places. Also the rust needs to be subtle to look good, it's much better to build up the rusting effect with several layers of very thin wash than with one thicker one because of the tidemarks - one thicker layer doesn't look like a rust buildup but like someone just painted the area rusty brown. The same rusty brown caked on the minis... Well I suppose your goal was to make it look like splashes of mud or dried blood, but honestly my first thought was "someone was throwing feces at them" :) Especially that you weather their torsos and shoulder pads with it, but not the legs, which should be first to get caked with mud, come to think about it. And if it was supposed to be dried blood - well the colour is not exactly right, dried blood is more blackish-dark red than rusty brown.

Honestly this amount of battle damage and weathering rather spoiled the overall good effect of your army instead of helping.

All of the above does not mean that I necessarily can do better, mind you, I'm criticizing as a viewer, not as a painter. Well, maybe as a viewer with some painting experience and real lots of theory absorbed :)

Now hate me and kill me :)

Well maybe they've been fighting the evil monkey-people of Simianus Tertius?

Lovely models, my only criticism is I always picture these insane warriors as having quite a few bullet holes in their armour. As they charge in there're going to take a lot of fire, and not all weapons make little scratches!

A simple way of doing this (I found) was to drill a small hole with a hobby drill, then drill again with a drill bit roughly 1/2 times bigger. Then make lots of little scratches around the edge of the hole with a small knife.

The chaos helm on Gabriel Seth looks far better than the bare face. Is his normal head separate, or did you cut it off?

I have to disagree with you there brother ovis, i think the weathering is fine, if you look at the size of the scratches compared to the size of the models weapons then it's just right, bare in mind it is the 40k universe, and not based on real life. I also dont see the sloppiness that you mentioned, to me the paint job looks pretty spot on, it gives a real gritty feel and fits the Flesh Tearers prefectly, and coupled with the conversions he's done makes a perfect looking force IMO. I think it's just a matter of taste :)

I think it's just a matter of taste :ermm:

I agree with this statement.

These models looks great and the weathering matches the ferocity I think the OP was trying to imbue for the most part, however I'm torn from a fluff stand point of any Astartes would actually let their blessed power armor and sacred bolters become so battle worn. Rust doesn't just form in over the course of one battle, and I feel like a big part of Astartes life is tending to their gear. As such, though I love the artists who pull off the wonderful rusting effects on Space Marines, their gear and their vehicles, I just find it a tad unfluffy.

The Tech Adepts would never give a tank their blessing looking like that. The best way for me to except rust on Space Marines - because I'm maybe a fluff nazi - is to picture a long drawn out war in which the unit(s) are stuck cut off from the main support of their Chapter and/or Imperial forces. I prefer subtle damage that represents perhaps one battle or so in which case the Marines have had time to clean up.

Like I said, I love these guys I just cringe to think that any Astartes would let their equipment come to such a state. Fluff aside, painting technique of course varies, so yes this can be partly a matter of taste. Not that Ovis doesn't bring up some good constructive criticism. I especially think he makes a good point about using washes for the rust so it doesn't just seem very solid in which it's more obvious on the large scraped areas of the vehicles. I'd say the rust build up would be more solid at one point and less so as it runs.

Nice looking army. Your close enough for this to work BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!!!!!

Thanks! :)

I was very close to collect a Korne army instead ... It is sort of a tribute to the blood god ;P

Awesome work man. Paint job is crisp. You've got the battle damage and the rust...

Now wheres the blood?..... .___.

Seriously, just a little blood here and there would add a whole nother level to your army.

Thanks!

The Spikes and shield are parts from the deaf dread and the killa kanz... the whooping stick (Blood champion?) are a club from the lizardmen. the shoulder armour trim are from regular chainswords :)

And yea the banner pole is a bit long now that youve mentioned it :)

Awesome! How did you make those chainsaw blades on their shoulderpads?

Thanks man!

The are just cut and trimmed of from the regulare spacemarine chainswords :)
