Index Traitoris: Brazen Warriors

The Colossus

Recommended Posts

So, with the advent of Dark Vengeance, I am re-starting my Chaos army, and after dabbling with painting Alpha Legion and Word Bearer test models, I've returned to my Brazen Warriors. However, I want a clean slate, and I've altered the colour scheme slightly (from brass to gold, it less of a pain to paint, and isn't as close to firestorm40k's Legion of Taurus), so I'm effectively starting from scratch on the painting side of things. Fluffwise, I've had this written down and kicking around for ages now, I'd like some feedback pleaseeee! smile.gif

Index Traitoris- The Brazen Warriors

Legion of Origin: Iron Warriors
Primarch: Perturabo
Colours: Gold with silver trim, and black shoulderpads.
Specialisation: Siege Assault, Daemonmancy
Chaos God of Allegiance: Undivided
Daemon World: Collosintium

Background:
The Brazen Warriors fight very much as the Iron Warriors, save they have forged many Daemonic pacts, and are wont to summon hordes of Daemons to aid them, whilst using cultists and renegade guardsmen as cannon fodder.

They are warped warriors who simply exist to cast down fortifications.

Collosintium:
Ruler: The Brazen Council, a collection of Chaos Warlords and Sorcerers.

Points of Interest: The Dead Quarter, where the buildings are made of the dead bodies of the Brazen Warrior's foes, and their tormented ghosts wander, shackled forever to the whim of the Wraith Sorcerors. The main fortress and barracks of the Brazen Warriors is located here.

Bio: The planet operates as a mockery of a living planet, save everything, down to the smallest insect, is a daemonically possessed brass and iron construct. The populace (still human, at least as far as you can be on a Daemon World) eke out a living in continually building greater and more warped fortifications, in a vain attempt to gain favour with the ruling Chaos Space Marines. Those who survive the gruelling challenges are eligible to be considered for a place amongst the Brazen Warriors themselves.

Personae

Warsmith-Apostle Drax: leader of the Brazen Claws, his size and bulk is such that his armour has been modified from a combination of power and terminator armour.

Buriaak N'Gasta: Tzeentch Daemon Prince, leads his warband of Possessed Marines.

Meltorx: a former techmarine turned Warsmith interred in a dread, who went crazy before his interment. Has mechadendrites instead of arms.

Sorceror-Scholar Memnon Heraclea, the Red Son of the Corvidae: an extremely gifted Thousand Son, his skill has begun to rival Ahriman's himself. Sometime ally of the Brazen Warriors.

Sagan’s Siege Breakers: Khornate, insane chainaxe wielding, partially armoured maniacs, who are always first into a breach.

Nytar’s Ironmen: Chaos Space Marines who are heavily modified with bionics, much of it poorly maintained, making them slower in combat, but able to take far more punishment than the average warrior.

Many thanks in advance smile.gif

Ught oh, that looks real similar to my Brazen Bulls chapter of CSM, and you say this has been kicking around in your head for ages? Well it looks like you had it first, besides I was going to change my paint scheme anyways. Good luck to you sir.

Ain't no reason y'all can't have both color schemes. I was thinking of just trying fluff for a warband called the "Massacre" once upon a time. Now there's the Crimson Slaughter. What makes the difference is the fluff, style and flavor of your warband. Are they tragic heroes, born murderers, survivors or opportunists? What makes them who they are? Is it just their colors? Brazen can be anywhere from "bronze-like" to "very bold". Maybe to make you comfortable, change the color scheme and style them around straightforward tactics of rushing headlong into the enemy and beating the snot out of them face to face. Or give them a styled tactic of two probing groups that reach back to a massive mob of slaves, armor and Marines that has a bull's-head shape to the formation with a heavy mix of bronze and other colored armor. Like mix-n-match black and bronze armor.

@Brother Aramos- Ah I didn't mean to make you change it- many warbands have similar to identical colour schemes- similar to what Kol said.

Anyway, I'm resurrecting this from the grave, as I'm fluff-storming and I wanted some feedback on this- I've altered some stuff. I mainly need ideas for a battle cry, I was thinking a variation of "Iron within, Iron without" but I can't find one that fits...

Warband Name

Brazen Warriors

Origins

In the wake of the Horus Heresy, many of the Iron Warriors on garrison duty throughout the Imperium were left behind in the dash to the Eye of Terror. One such group, numbering some two hundred were members of the Twelfth Grand Company, a company specialising in siege assault with jump pack equipped infantry, and utterly loyal to the Emperor. Their leader was an Iron Warrior known as Erasmus Drax, a skilled Warsmith, whose large bulk required his power armour to be modified with parts from Terminator armour. He was unusually possessed of a particularly fiery oratory, and at the close of the Horus Heresy he managed to persuade the warriors under his command that Perturabo had betrayed them. Hunted by the Imperium during the Scouring, they resolved to pursue Perturabo to the Eye of Terror to bring him to account, and to prove their loyalty to the Emperor. It is unsure what happened in their pursuit, but emerging from the Eye of Terror close to the end of M34, it was apparent that their sojourn had changed them.

Later History

The former Iron Warriors that returned were anything but loyal Imperials- they consorted with Daemons and embarked on a campaign of terror. It was clear that they had been bolstered by other Chaos Space Marines, and their estimated strength numbered in the thousands. Notable battles include the Siege of Hurspear’s Landing, and the Taking of Sextus Hive.

Home World

Collosintium:

Ruler: The Brazen Council, a collection of Chaos Space Marines, comprised of three permanent members, Lord Chrossos, the Master of Skulls, Sorceror Khalid Change-seeker and Warsmith Drax, along with a revolving cast of ten Brazen Warriors, who are chosen through Warp rituals, and similar to the warrior lodges, have no notions of rank once elected. These ten serve a thirteen year term, unless slain during their service.

Those who survive the gruelling challenges are eligible to be considered for a place amongst the Brazen Warriors themselves.

Beliefs

As a warband they follow Chaos Undivided but individual marines are free to worship the Dark Gods as they please, and have a particular hatred for Imperial Astartes and Iron Warriors Chaos Space Marines.

Combat Doctrine

The Brazen Warriors fight very much as the Iron Warriors, save they have forged many Daemonic pacts, and are wont to summon hordes of Daemons to aid them, whilst using cultists and renegade guardsmen as cannon fodder. Being a former siege assault company, they possess many Raptors.

Organisation

Little traditional organisation remains, instead, favour with the Chaos Gods, and brute strength and charisma determines rank. Possess many Daemonancers.

Gene-seed

Predominantly Iron Warriors- mutated by exposure to the warp.

Battle-cry

-

Color Scheme

Gold, with silver trim and black shoulderpads, a reversal of the Iron Warriors scheme

Cool background so far, go for it, any conversions planned allready?

Cheers,

Yeah, Drax is gonna be converted with terminator bits, and I'm thinking combining possessed arms with bolters to give regular CSMs an obliterator-esque look- harking back to the idea that Iron Warriors can "morph" weapons.

So, my third refinement is here, I'm still unsure on the battle-cry, and I've altered the background for the Brazen Council. I also want some more ideas for their Later History, what sort of things might be good to include?

Collosintium:

Ruler: The Brazen Council. None are sure who the Brazen Council are, or rather, were. All that remains are thirteen plinths, covered with writhing faces of not entirely natural flesh from which emanates disembodied screams and keening moans, which are scribed onto the frequently still-living bodies of humans by nine bound Horrors of Tzeentch.

How about "Death to the Betrayers" for the battle cry?

Also, I'm debating on expanding upon the two battles I've mentioned, as I want to do some Death Guard (Sons of Mortis, a DIY warband of the Death Guard that I've yet to fluff out) and some Red Corsairs. This would allow me to add allies (not like in the BRB, but in universe!) for each battle, and give me a chance to work on other things. Would these be better as a brief synopsis, a pov story, or just a detailed Imperium style account?

So, now to resurrect this from the grave, like a zombie blessed by Papa Nurgle. Hopefully this is my final refinement, it's definitely turning into a labour of love.

Personae

Warsmith-Apostle Drax: leader of the Brazen Warriors, his size and bulk is such that his armour has been modified from a combination of power and terminator armour.

Captain Bastiaros, the Warknight: A former Iron Warriors Captain, he now runs the day to day affairs of the company, leading them in battle. His body was marred in battle with the Ultramarines during the Scouring and has bionics replacing much of his body. Devoted to Khorne. Wields a warped sword.

The Nephilite: His origins within the warband are unclear, but he is a devotee of Slaanesh, and his lower body is long and serpentine. His face is ritually scared, emulating that of Lucius of the Emperor’s Children, whilst what remains of his armour is carved with the writhing faces of the damned. Wields a rapier.

Bubulous, Plague-Apothechary: A former apothechary, he now seeks to spread disease, not cure it. His bloated mass is a familiar sight upon the battlefield, more diseased flesh than armour, and carries a mighty rusted axe.

Sorceror-Scholar Memnon Heraclea, the Red Son of the Corvidae: an extremely gifted Thousand Son, his skill has begun to rival Ahriman's himself, such is his favour with Tzeentch. Now a member of the Brazen Warriors.

Meltorx: a former techmarine turned Warsmith interred in a dreadnought, who went crazy before his interment. Has mechadendrites instead of arms.

Sagan’s Siege Breakers: The first breach assault squad. Khornate, insane chainaxe wielding, partially armoured maniacs, who are always first into a breach.

Nytar’s Ironmen: Chaos Space Marines who carry massive shields, gifting them with greater protection in the heat of battle. They use their shields as weapons in the midst of combat. Nytar himself carries a Chaos-forged sword and a combi-melta, and is heavily augmented with bionics.
