Update on my army pr. 29/6/13.

Im quite proud of this force, as it represents my first real army...

Most of the time I get tired after a unit or two - but not with these!

Counting up, there are

30 Veterans

2 Rapier Laser Destroyers

2 Contemptor Dreads

3 Skyhunter Jetbikes

10 Cataphractii terminators

1 Praetor on Jetbike

1 Chaplin

1 Librarian

1 Legion Champion

Things im considering buying :

The Praetor kit

3 Rhinos

.. Some 20 more marines. ^^

It looks fantastic in the black with the red weapons, and the DA symbol on top suits it perfectly

Thanks you! I found it hard to balance how many DA bits i should add, but in the end KISS was the best approach. Tho i cannot wait to see the contrast on the figs when i add decals and bases.

On another note, i have some better pictures comming up - but my USB has gone on a trip to mordor...so it will be a few more hours before a decent update.

And sadly i wont be able to paint very much till wednesday. And there ill be reading my new codex and fiddle with all the new goodies that GW has released ^^

Top stuff! I particularly like the rich red. Good use of the small Dark Angel bits to make them unique too. Captain Semper's right, you should do more.

Next on the bench... im considering using Mk2 with the DA veteran sprue - result can be seen below. Comments? Do the heavy Mk2 armor look to out of place on a robed marine or?

Im thinking off white robes, red decals, white shoulder pads, rest as the terminators.

Looks amazing, and you should totally do it. I had been considering going for another Legion for my Pre-Heresy army, as I hate painting black, but your models really do the Legion justice, and the red breaks things up a lot.

I am a big fan of the MKIII for the HH DA as it just looks so "knightly".

Personally I would stay with a hessian look robe so a bleached bone colouring. I only put a hood on one of my guys so I did not hit too much of a problem with mine.

I agree the black is hard to balance, and im properbly goint to try and do fine highlights with a grey.

It looks great, as do your 'nators!

Brother Elmo has some neat versions of vets with FW bits if you are keen to look..

Marks II and III are my favourites and I love robed Dark Angels so I think they look perfect!

Haha, i have a folder where i save inspiration - and its pretty much only the pictures in that thread. Its what convinced me to go for pre heresy DA!

I just gotta figure out how to add power weapons to the sgt.

Bleached bone colouring was the idea aswell, i did consider green but it would darken the model to much i think.

In the meantime, i have till wednesday to prepare 30+ marines for priming.

Last note - thank you all for the encouraging words, they make me work so much harder :)

The sword on mine was taken from the RW extras sprue. I cut off the hand from the arm, cut off the hand from the MK3 arm and replaced it with the sword hand. A bit of filling and all done. I seem to remember I had to alter the shoulder to get a better arm position but I can't remember exactly (getting old)

Well well well...I got my stuff from Wayland, and being as smart as i am - i forgot to order the grey primer. So no post heresy terminators for me till i get that.

 

Wich means - More Preheresy stuff! And quite possibly some Ravenwing.. ^^

 

Im currently basing the 5 Cataphractii terminators, and will start basecoating the 20 normal marines that i have ready.

 

Anyhow pictureless update - im cruel

So, they are actually done. I wont have any decals till next time i order from FW, so thats that.

 

Its late but i wanted to upload some pictures anyway!

 

I first wanted to use resin bases, but to my horror i only ordered 4 of them, and they are now goin to belial and my knights..

 

So old school cork and grass bases.

Cool beans. The claws model in particular is awesome.

 

Thank you! I really liked the effect aswell, and it was fairly stright forward.

I almost prefere the dark images... so many things that i need to fix on those.

The painting quality is just top notch - you have captured perfectly the grim determination of the 1st Legion... and those bases? Wow just wow!
