Hi all. I'm oldschoolsoviet, and I've been lurking for a few months, enjoying the material on show, and generally settling back into the hobby after a 15 year hiatus.

As the title says, I'm mostly working on a Traitor WE force, ignoring the GW aspects of late, and adding a dash of the RoC days. My armies are for fun, for the enjoyment of creating them, rather than being designed for the tabletop. I'm certainly not the best painter or modeller around, and the few ideas I have are typically born from desperation rather than genius, but I try......

Anyhoo, some Scars to begin...

A small collection from the end days of 2nd Ed/start of 3rd, found in the loft, requiring some finishing and my force as of January. Completed the remainder by March, shown here.

http://i50.tinypic.com/2882mbc.jpg

I imagined them as a LRDG-style force, initially bought during the Codex/Biker army arguments, and I sided with the "fully mechanised" and Codex adherence angle rather than the "bikes, bikes, bikes and NO devs" tirade. You'll have noticed the subtle change to the chapter icon just to be safe from certain types of players..... :smile.:

I'll return to them later, seeing as I've somehow purchased enough for a full company over the months, and hopefully with better results after the practice with the other lot.....

It all started with this:

http://i46.tinypic.com/9a7fgi.jpg

A little mock-up of bits for fun, and reawakened my dreams of a WE force. eBay called, and selling my old stuff (Biel-Tan force, un-Khorneate Chaos) started a purchasing frenzy. While the concept morphed into something practical, the sprues started building up......

He was soon joined by these:

http://i47.tinypic.com/313hz7s.jpg

And soon I had cases galore:

Any feedback or C&C, feel free, and I'll continue with where I'm at tomorrow. Looking at setting up a proper photo light box, and waiting on something better than my Vita's cam.

In the meantime, I am curious to see if my links work, and whether pics of certain Chaos-y things are allowed with the PA emphasis ?

Cheers. I'll need to go back and make them a tad more tribal, but it's a good base for now.

On we go.....

Brother Cestus surveyed the scene ahead, the thin line of his squad resolutely holding back the rabid pack of Bezerkers crashing into them. At his side, the barked orders of Vet.Sgt Fumir pierced the din of clashing armour, the thud of bolters and the whine of chain-axe grinding ceremite. A struggle that continued a millennia-old war.

Then it caught Cestus' eye. A blue plume, flanked by the heretic's bronzed headress, pacing beyond the melee. It moved gracefully, he thought, unlike the frenzied actions of the rest, mesmerizing and puzzling in equal measure. Still it stayed to the rear, not committing to the fight beforehand, remaining elusive......behaviour unsuited to the blood-mad horde.

The sudden roar focused Cestus to the task at hand, instinctively raising his bolter to parry the chainsword blade destined for his head, caught unawares by the rampaging heretic, the sharp squeal as teeth bit into the bolter casing. Twisting his weapon, Cestus used the Bezerker's momentum to deftly sidestep left, discarding the bolter now rendered useless, and resolved the situation with a burst from his pistol, three rounds piercing its chesplate, silencing the guttural cries. Commited now, Cestus' senses alerted, he spun back to his left, pistol clutched in readiness, anticipating the next attack.

There lay Fumir, his neck mantle torn and ripped, the distinctive two-teeth pattern of a chain-axe blow fouling the proud armour. Twisting his neck further, he gazed upon the despicable scene before him. Crouched, no, poised in the dust, Fumir's head cradled in its hands, the bulk of armour masked beneath a heavy cloak, littered with chain and skull, a crimson glisten to the ornate chain-axe laying by the side. Slowing raising its head, the distinctive curve of the Corvus helm became apparent, runic script glittering along the muzzle, adorned with the proud blume plume witnessed before, transfixing Cestus with its empty gaze.....

"One attack. One swift blow." Cestus pondered, "was all it took ?"

A shout from a fellow brother caught Cestus' ear. Glancing back to his right, he could see the favourable outcome, as the Astartes finished what remained of the heretics' bloodlust. His eyes darted back to his pistol's aim, only to despair, at the vacant, blood-stained dust in front, Fumir's corpse the only trace of the mysterious traitor.......

A bit of fluff for this lil' kitbash. I pondered the idea of a WE that DID concern himself from where the skulls came from, only targeting officers and those worthy to be considered trophies, almost Predator-like, or an anti-Khârn. Distrusted by other WEs, a lone figure, possibly forcing Ld tests rules-wise as they squabble at his participation. Figured I'd go for Mk6 because you never really see many, the Dev legs reinforcing the idea, along with the bunny ears creating a jackal-like head.

A couple of basic WE pics:

Lighting isn't fantastic, but I wanted them to be rather static, to differentiate between the standard WEs and the Bezerkers, along with ensuring they had bolters ala 'the good ol' days'. There are 'Teeth' in the pipeline too...... I was never too happy with the P.Fist leader though, so I set about aquiring some bits from a FW Mk5 Heresy squad (for some Scar Stenguard) and cobbled together this chappie:

Kroot accessories are great for CSM. :)

Well, that'll do for now, but I'll leave a tease for the next idea:

Yep, a WE Techmarine.

Figured the FF/HB would need someone to maintain them, along with the vehicles and weaponry, but how to fit him in.

Background for the model was that he was a freebie bundled into a carry case I bought, along with four Servitors, minus their weapon arms. Now I could've paid for the case outright by reselling them, but a devious plan was forming......

Havocs.

Servitors typically carry heavy weapons anyway, but a Havoc squad geared with specials, led by a tank-hunting Techmarine, engaging at close-quarters ? That'd work. So I bought a few extras to bulk up to the fluffy eight:

http://i40.tinypic.com/wssqk6.jpg

An old sorceror as a familiar of sorts, a DM tech-priest, and thon BFM pilot fella as a trophy-collecting Macbeth to form a retinue. Next came the ingenious part:

http://i40.tinypic.com/3325xfs.jpg

Took some Beastmen arms, trimmed off the fur/weapons, and melded them with spare meltas and flamers, perfect for tank-hunting through rubble-strewn streets. A rough WIP shot:

http://i40.tinypic.com/2lxuk9w.jpg

And eventually the fluff came together. Davok "the Havoc" Tamerian, a slightly unhinged WE Techmarine, with links to the Dark Mechanicus. who missed the Seige at Terra, but was instrumental in organising the withdrawal of Traitor Titan Legions after Horus' death. Spending a great time with Titans and their scale unhinged something in his mind, so while his brethren kill for blood and skulls, Davok worships Khorne with the carcasses of Rhinos, Predators, Raiders, Russes etc (unsuccesfully though !) and the mutilation of the machine spirits. Some say that his great quest is to offer the head of the Great Machine Spirit/God/Void Dragon of Mars, although whether this is actually feasible is up for debate, certainly as a Reaver Titan is his current goal.... :)

And that's me up-to-date for now. Currently working on some Beastmen skirmishers, before getting back into the WE themselves.

Any C&C or feedback welcomed.

Well, currently finishing up my Beastmen, and my new camera arrived, so I've been mucking about with a few shots:

Much improved. And just for fun, here's how much I have for the Scars (mainly because I was checking if I had everything I wanted !):

Next up ? Probably the Havocs, maybe a chain axe tactical squad. Hmmm, decisions.....

 • 3 weeks later...

Well, after a short GTA sabbatical, I finally got around to finishing the Beastmen, few chainswords and bolt pistols throughout.

I'll post the addy, rather than the pic in order to avoid the wrath of mod types:

http://i43.tinypic.com/x22t20.jpg

So, back to the case of bits, and onto the controversial Havocs/Teeth.

http://i44.tinypic.com/2zrdv8g.jpg

There's 3 HBs, 2 MLs, and sole Las and AC. A decent enough mix for anti-infantry or anti-tank if run as a 5 man squad in game terms. Looking at bunny ears for a few different helms, and certain poses for the sarge and AC fella, but we'll see where my mood takes me. Hopefully have some progress through the weekend.

Just a quick WIP update, seeing as GTA has gobbled up most of my free time.

http://i43.tinypic.com/2m7urky.jpg

Messy, but functional.

http://i41.tinypic.com/16783r4.jpg

Close up of the ML lads, and a new beaky type helm in the rear. I'll have to rethink my initial reluctance to use WFB helms....

http://i43.tinypic.com/mcdpc5.jpg

My 'chaplain', another cheap eBay bargin (sans axe) rescued with a simple blood goblet from a WFB Skeleton trumpet top and axe grip. Something I was playing around with due to problems....

http://i41.tinypic.com/2w1y64x.jpg

Now, I'm happy with the sarge, but bunny ears are getting in the way for the Las fella (and AC), limiting his pose to a wayward glance, or requiring a different helm. As for the HBs......

*sigh*

The default arm poses are awful, just terrible to get right/looking decent. So I switched to bolter arms, and I'm still not happy. Firing arm is okay, but I'm still working on the aiming/holding side. I'm even considering going the whole hog and trying to shoulder-mount them, but then the ammo belt becomes an issue...... :wallbash:

Almost going in circles, and looking for examples/input from elsewhere. Any ideas, because I've a Jugg-Lord waiting in the wings y'know ? :laugh.:

Why not give him a front-to-back crest instead then? Or even a front-to-back brush crest like the ones in the Sternguard box?

Silver Fang & Kierdale : Cheers fellas.

Major_Gilbear : I suppose I'm hung up on bunny ears, the epitome of WE's for me. Trying to keep the standard design throughout my troops, and possibly using WFB/bare heads for bezerkers. FW kit heads are split between eventual Raptors and a bolter squad.

We'll see where I end up over the weekend.......perhaps even the Skullcrusher heads I've just remembered about !

Compared to the inspirational madness shown by Heinrich, Dan the Demon, BCK, Kraut and many others ?

I feel amateurish in comparison. :blush.:

I'm good at ideas, but the execution isn't always perfect as my hacked up thumbs will attest to. This smiley needs a bandage >>>

Some quick and messy pics:

http://i41.tinypic.com/oivlsz.jpg

Slow progress thanks to work, but taking shape. Happily sorted the heads out, and sorted out the future Bezerkers at the same time. Just about enough bunny ears to go round.

http://i40.tinypic.com/1zr1jxg.jpg

The dreaded HBs. :( Best of a bad selection of choices, in mounting them as boltguns. Cut out the rear, adding in the firing hand, a nice choppy axe head, and a mace belt loop as a gunsight. Three of these with slight variation, and a few tiny skulls to add later perhaps. Next pic shows the solution.....

http://i41.tinypic.com/2rqglme.jpg

There's a little notch behind the ammo feed, and it's almost in the right position for arm spacing. Few minor cuts, and I'm still hovering over whether to cut the hands for a true right-angle finish. Definitely been enough hassle so far.

Anyways, been busy purchasing bitz galore, with WFB Marauder Horseman heads and special Bolters for White Scar Sternguard, along with some (very cheap) Ogre Kingdoms sprues for decorating the Khornate tanks, as well as a few special bits to replace my WS Captain. About 3 weeks off over the festive season, so hopefully I'll be able to knuckle down.

Ahhh. Time for a break, and conjure up some bloodthirsty ideas. ;) Juggerlord for starters, along with the possibility of a Cygor purchase for conversion. I don't feel that a kitbashed Herald will suffice.

Small, but evergrowing. Need to finish up that LR, and tidy up the accompanying salvaged armour too, Vindi, Pred and a few Rhinos in store. It never ends, does it ?

C&C welcome.
