They were already forced to alter some of the models (Confessor, Abaddon) to have different heads. They still ship with the original heads as a bonus, but do not advertise that fact and do not show the pictures of the options. That was directly caused by GW legal actions.

I'm very surprised these guys are still putting out miniatures that come so close to GW's without them getting a ton of C&D's and more.

I'm trying not to pee all over the things that they do, I'm actually quite a big fan of the Chem Dog guys and some of the vehicles that they do (The Hive Runner in particular), it's just that a lot of it really starts to cross the line. The Tau are a great example of this, as mentioned above, they're fairly unique to GW and yet they've taken huge liberties on design and naming. That 'Ethereal' may as well be a direct clone of a GW product, from the shape of the face and the nostril gap in the centre of the face, to the architecture of the plating and the shape of the staff.

And yet they'd actually have to go to court and prove that they and they alone hold the right to exactly that shape. I know that people like to talk about legal action, but things like shapes are hard to actually trademark worldwide and different jurisdictions have different views on exactly what can. The Chapterhouse suit showed that in the US, the shape of the Marine pauldron is not trademarkable. You also tend to have to allege and have proof that there is damage to the value of your trademark, and that must be something that is based on the laws of the jurisdiction the suit is filed in.

Also, a C&D is effectively the legal threat before a suit is started and holds no legal standing in at least a US jurisdiction - almost anyone can send one of those out - model makers could even send C&Ds to GW for making a model that is similar/identical enough to trigger a suit, even if GW originally produced the artwork that is the basis of the model. It's a tool of notification or intimidation, not something that forces compliance. A C&D letter from a company/individual is very different from getting an actual C&D letter/order from a legal authority, which does generally hold a requirement of compliance (often temporary).

'Are the "Nuns with Guns" or "Etheral" concept truly distinct enough to actually constitute infringement if too similar?' is really a question only a legal court could decide.

What I know is that I can determine my own line that I'm not willing to actually buy across and I don't know that these do cross it, but I'm not the legal authority to actually determine whether something violates the law where it is produced or sold, nor am I the legal representative to argue that something does or doesn't violate the same in said jurisdiction.

Yeah even with the annoying combat heel's and corset cleavage the quality is too good not to pass up. I'll probably be getting a 10 woman squad at the very least.

Raging heroes did a whole range of Nuns with Gunz just fine. I think it depends on how close to GWs actual models they come in looks.

The 40k fluff explained to an outsider:

Some space elves got really into drugs and sex and a big scary monster got born that ate them.
A space wizard got beaten up by a guy who said he was his friend but wasn't and now he's on a life support machine and people worship him because he was super awesome.
Now there are giant men with rocket launcher machine guns and 4 hearts and are really super awesome who beat up everything.
Also there's a bunch of aliens but they don't really do anything and aren't as cool as the rocket machine gun super men, so who cares?

On the other hand, I think the reason why many female models are oversexualized is because of the materials used (mainly thinking about resin here) and the size in which they are produced (easier to give very noticeble boobs to a model than try to define other feminine features, I guess?). GW's plastic probably allows for more definition in their models so they can work on finer details.

You need some exaggeration to gender a 25mm figure, but the sheer level of over the top sexual dimorphism you get in miniatures design is ridiculous. GW is far from the worst, Privateer Press and Infinity are obsessed with giving women legs with similar width to their guns/swords while the men's biceps have similar diameters to the women's waists.

None of that excuses cleavage on armour. At best you can justify minor booblate with that excuse. If they want to sell models with cleavage they could design original characters with a reason to have cleavage.

But it makes sense that a guardswoman's armor doesn't make her body shape as defined as say, for example, an Inquisitor who chooses to have her armor tailored in a way that accentuates her curves.

One Inquisitor in ornate feminine armour is a character trait, when they're all like that its just un-originality.

Which is why I kind of like how they kept Lelith Hesperax in the silly thong but gave the other wyches more to wear.

Just do what I did with my Magos model who had exposed flesh, I painted it black and it looks like a body glove.

The old 'Keulla the Vile' trick?

Still gives you metal bustiers.

40k is always ridiculous but its best when its inventive ridicularity not an unoriginal pandering form of ridiculousness.

Oh boy, I've started a mess here...

FWIW, my big problem with the cleavage on these Sisters is entirely based on context. I have zero problem with sexy models (provided they're done well). I don't mind impractical armour (again, provided it's done well). I don't even mind cleavage on armour, depending on who's wearing it (a particularly flamboyant Inquisitor, a Chaos character etc are all fair game). It's literally just on Sisters that it gets my goat. The Sororitas power armour design is IMO pretty much perfect as is, even if the official miniatures aren't. The armoured bustier and the like are silly, but they work. And even with the sexualized elements to their design, the fact they're more or less completely armoured (heads aside, which is just a scifi/fantasy thing regardless of gender) gives them some unique identity. Like, it's sexy armour that is definitely armour. Giving them cleavage windows, IMO, ruins that.

So TLDR: Any other "sexy" 40K model = good (provided it's done well). Sexy Sisters = bad. Not because of prudishness, but just out of respect for the (IMO brilliant) canonical designs.

With that, I think this particular issue can go to bed now. Please ensure it stays that way lest you join it - this topic should be focusing on the new releases. Thanks.

Would be a little difficult because WGE is located in russia. Same could be said of several other things that they have such as their entire "Greater Good" line.

The details in the render and that model look pretty sharp and well done. The scarring detail on the face is very nice, but I do find the gap between the collar (rebreather hoses?) and the corset style armor jarring, even if the material beneath is an armored bodyglove/undersuit. It seems like a strange place to put a gap in the armor.

They were already forced to alter the Confessor and Abaddon sculpts (to make different heads and not advertise the GW-like ones, though they still include them for free).

From their facebook page:

"Backpack, hands and head are separate. There are more heads in the sisters' set so you have an option to assemble some versions without a helmet. Set consists of one SUPERIA with sword, one with standard and eight regular sisters.
We plan to make an entire line of these models and also sets of backpacks and alternative helmets."

Sounds like maybe not completely every model will have a headless option, I've got mine ordered and they are usually pretty fast on shipping so I'll have detail pics of the sprues up somewhere in the B&C soon.
