I'm planning to do genestealers in an Alien-inspired color scheme. Current plan is to use Eschin Grey for the skin, Skavenblight Dinge for carapace and claws, and Nuln Oil Gloss to finish and shade. I'm considering that Eschin Grey might be better for the carapace and Mechanicus Standard Grey for the skin, depending on how dark the Nuln Oil Gloss makes them.

You could also approach this from the Prometheus movies

No. Those movies were terrible, and don't live up to the legacy of the first two at all. Alien is my single favorite movie, followed by the first Terminator, then Aliens and Terminator 2, in that order.

Aliens is my wife's favorite movie.  Stop giving her ideas.  She is going to read this and demand I do it!

Your wife has excellent taste. You made good decisions. :biggrin.:

On the topic of Alien-themed Genestealer paint jobs, if my Cults didn't already have a color scheme, I'd do that. Because that would be awesome, almost better than the "hiding in shadows" scheme I've got going on right now.

Just published a double-sized "Artistic Content" article!

Artistic Content #41 & #42: Incendiary Crater Scratch Build, Biological Ooze, & A Meteorite!  Check out a unique and original terrain build for a scorched crater.  Stay for the Meteorite and ooze.  This is yet another homage to the horror and sci-fiction films that shaped our imaginations.

Hopefully this jump-starts your imagination for the weekend!  If not, there is a lot more coming as I get all caught up on articles.  Painting has dominated my time and life for the last few days.  The reveal of the arctic battlefield and the weapons facility is close at hand!

On the topic of Alien colour schemes, while not a Xenos the glossy black I use for my Slaanesh Daemons certainly does the trick.

KzNbHh2l.jpg

It's as easy as it gets. Chaos Black -> heavy application of 'Ardcoat.

Think Abaddon Black would work?

Uh ... yeah that's what it actually is. :D I keep forgetting that the spray and the brush on paint have different names even though it's basically the same paint lol

Colour out of Space, or?

Edit: Ha, I didn't even know there was a recent movie until just now. May have to check that out. Meant the original Lovecraft work, not the movie.

Happy Friday!

I am pleased to announce that I have started revealing my arctic battlefield.  Come see if it lives up to the hype.  I have uploaded 4 videos that total over an hour for your viewing enjoyment.

I will be unboxing all the terrain, game mats, and other goodies that sponsors have graciously sent to help make this battlefield a reality over the weekend.  I give my initial impressions and also talk a bit about what I look for in a game mat.  So far I have only revealed the arctic game mat and almost all of my scratch built terrain.  There are still quite a few more surprises left for me to share!  You will be getting sneak peeks of several upcoming projects and artistic content.

Come see all the progress and how the battlefield comes together, here on my YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkvoqqfcJ_TTaVv0G8oAM5A

Feel free to critique away, as video editing is by far my least favorite thing ever.  I try to avoid it like a Nurgle plague, or the Coronavirus <same thing?>.

I can give you world-class photography and articles, but videos are not my niche and I know it.  But it is a necessary aspect <dare I say evil>, so I suffer through video encoding for "the greater good".

Happy Saturday Night!

I have just posted 3 more videos to my Youtube channel consisting of unboxing, initial impressions, and general info in how I intend to use them.  Features terrain from GAMEMAT.EU  & Death Ray Designs.  Another hour's worth of videos in total.

Check it out and let me know what you thought.  Worst case you get to see me fumble with and play with slime.  Should be entertaining.

Additionally, I published another artistic content article on a "arctic sensor balloon".  This really turned out well and adds a little more arctic vibe to the ever expanding terrain collection.

Happy Monday!

Just published two more "Artistic Content" articles!

The first article showcases how i achieve color matching with my arctic battlefield (game mat).  There was a slight bluish hue that made my baking soda white bases "pop" way too much.

See how I fixed that, here: https://overwhelmingodds40k.com/artistic-content-44-color-matching-bases-to-battlefields/

The second article features the finalized signs, placards, and piping labels for all my terrain.  There is a file to download everything you see for your own use.  Sharing is caring!

Friendship, forever, here: https://overwhelmingodds40k.com/artistic-content-45-nuclear-weapons-facilities-arctic-battlefield-warning-signs-piping-labels-hazard-placards/

I am slowly but surely making my way through all the content and articles I need to do.  There will be military "heavy" articles soon, I promise!  It is my niche after all!

Two more articles for you today.  These are reviews and build "photo logs" of two Death Ray Design terrain kits.  They are both exceptional kits and I take them to the next level with some modding.  Come check out two more additions to my arctic battlefield.  You will be inspired and motivated to make some terrain!

Laser Perimeter/Fence, here: https://overwhelmingodds40k.com/artistic-content-46-death-ray-designs-rapid-vanguard-aerials-defensive-laser-perimeter/

Laser Isotope Separation/Centrifuge Hybrid, here: https://overwhelmingodds40k.com/artistic-content-47-death-ray-designs-double-reactor-uranium-235-238-centrifuge/

The arctic battlefield is in it's final stage of completion now!  Just a few more awesome projects to finish up.  There will be about 3 to 5 more surprises before I am done!  The wife made a few requests for terrain that I have to accomplish.  She is really involved in this project, since it has so many elements she loves from horror and sci-fi movies. Happy wife, happy life...

3 more articles inbound!  More to follow.  I have been crazy busy finishing up this arctic nuclear weapons facility battlefield.  But it is really coming together now.  Come see the results of the amazing amount of passion being poured into this project!

First up is the finished terrain from Death Ray Designs!  All painted and ready to go.  This terrain is AWESOME!  Come see how I modded it for the look I wanted.

Laser Isotope Separator and Laser Perimeter Fence <How cool does that sound?> https://overwhelmingodds40k.com/artistic-content-48-death-ray-designs-painted-double-reactor-aerials/

Next up is my "Reactor Pool" and underground reactor.  I will let the article and photos elaborate more.

Come take your last swim, here: https://overwhelmingodds40k.com/artistic-content-49-reactor-pool/

Last up is an article generated off of a thread here.  I requested ideas for how to use a laser bouncing off mirrors in a battle.  Here is a result from that thread!

This was all thanks to Astral Arcane.  Make sure to thank him for the amazing idea if you find the content enjoyable and inspirational!

"Mortal Wound Party", and everyone is invited to the Laser Rave: https://overwhelmingodds40k.com/artistic-narrative-content-50-lasers/

I would post pictures of the result, but I don't want to ruin the surprise.  This idea worked out flawlessly!  You have to see it to believe it!

Happy Thursday!

Here is the first of many articles for today!  I know I have been publishing a massive amount of artistic content, but don't worry, the other types of articles are coming.  There was just a ton of projects that I wanted to share.  I am trying to get to the last part of my 10 part series on "Warhammer 40K vs Modern Military" today.  I wanted to finish up my Death Company Intercessors for that article.  I will be building a pure Death Company list for the next battle and battle report. A very fluffy, but effective list!

Day One of the Quarantine.

What better way to kick off isolation, than by publishing the finale to my 10-part "Warhammer 40K vs. Modern Military" series.  I go "cradle to grave" building a list, breaking down the mission, and building a Concept of Operation (CONOP) for my forces.  But, it isn't all strategy and analysis, oh no, having FUN is the priority this time.  I build an almost pure Death Company list and it has no Smash Captain!  It is super fluffy and narrative.  Come see the evolution and intent behind this Black Rage meat grinder!

Black Rage and Red Thirst, here: https://overwhelmingodds40k.com/modern-military-vs-warhammer-40k-practical-application-part-10/

The battle is imminent and the battle reports will follow shortly after that.  Stay safe out there everyone!  Don't forget I am still taking requests for content.  Anything I can do to help even a single person pass the time right now is worth it in my book.

Keep Calm and Black Rage!

Good stuff! I like the paint job on the Mawloc, too - looks great, and the green in the mandibles really stands out in a good way.

Kain Mor,

I just published an article for you where I take a look at the Thunderbolt Heavy Fighter and evaluate it.  I give my opinion and share my experiences with similar flyers.  I also breakdown it's capabilities and role.  If you ever thought about purchasing this beautiful model, or using it in a list, this is the article for you!

It is just like a real P-47 Thunderbolt, and I love that aircraft!  Check out info on that here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_P-47_Thunderbolt

Read my article here: https://overwhelmingodds40k.com/thunderbolt-heavy-fighter-unit-analysis/

Maybe the background info sparks your interest further in this awesome model.  Maybe my article helps.  Either way, great suggestion Kain Mor and thanks for reading!

It has finally begun!

No, not my quarantine...My Grey Knight army!  Come see the first unit that will be built and painted.  You know what should be first.  Yeah, that's right, the Nemesis Dreadknight!

See the un-boxing and piece by piece review of this incredible kit from PUPPETSWAR!  I even have almost all the weapon options (minus the Heavy Incinerator, because it does not fit the role I want for my Dreadknight)

I start my custom Grey Knights army, here: https://overwhelmingodds40k.com/building-a-new-army-grey-knights-nemesis-dreadknight/

I hope you enjoy all the content and there is even more inbound.  If you have requests for content, suggestions, or just want to see a specific type of content, let me know.  I am here for you!   I should be able to get a battle in tomorrow, maybe two!  Battle reports will follow after that shortly!  I want to push battle reports more often for everyone.  I am lucky enough to be able to get some battles in.

Happy Wednesday!

Today's article takes a look at the craters from GAMEMAT.EU.  I was really surprised at how functional these are, not just as craters, but as small lakes and pools!  Come see what they offer to your battlefield, here: https://overwhelmingodds40k.com/gamemat-eu-craters-un-boxing-review/

Going to finally get my 1st arctic battle in today!  Wish me luck!  It is going to be a bloodbath thanks to the 5 battlefield effects everyone voted on!  Death Company is going to need to pass A LOT of "feel no pain" saves against all the mortal wounds inflicted each turn!  I will get the battle report out ASAP afterwards.
