UPDATED LIST FURTHER DOWN THIS PAGE. Keeping for completeness and seeing the list evolution if anyone else has a similar idea or concept in the future.

So I am looking to get this force purchased in one fell swoop. We play fairly tough lists locally but I’ve never really been able to work out mechanicum. Looking for any input at all. One of the other ideas I was floating around was to drop some castellax for some adeusecularis in triaros and a macroarid but I don’t think it really fits the theme.

At, you have no scoring units at all so I would say swap the vorax (they die to a strong wind) or a unit of castallax, for either tech thralls or thallax, thallax would fit your theme better but are expensive themselves , thralls don’t fit the theme as well but are cheaper and could be converted into clock work men to suit it abit more.

The list looks pretty good, although I don't think the single domitar will give you much mileage on the table, I would suggest dropping it and taking a bigger unit of vorax. You have 2 units of darkfire castellax and 2 thanatars, which is quite a bit of long range firepower, I would consider dropping 1 thanatar and making your mauler cannon castellax units bigger, they are going to be the core of the army driving forwards with Scoria. I would also swap the multi-melta castellax for mauler bolt cannons. Dropping 1 thanatar also means you have fewer backfield units to babysit with the magos dominus. You could also make the magos dominus much cheaper, his primary function will be to give cortex control to the darkfire castellax.

The list looks quite similar to my regular 3k list, although I tend to group the Castellax into two larger squads typically - and you might want to consider that, or split into three units instead of four. I tend to think that makes them more survivable (and they're already tough!) - but I appreciate you might want more flexibility in running with smaller units. I also tend to run an additional Magos - to deny potential bonus VPs and for healing purposes - but it's a reasonable investment to make them 'tough', and I'm not sure their damage output will always match up to what they'd cost or typically accompany (either Castellax or Thanatars, in most cases). May just be something to consider!

As others have pointed out, you'd ideally want scoring units - whether in the form of Thralls or Thallax. Either can work well depending on whether you're wanting to stick with the theme (or fit them within that) - but it probably adds further versatility rather than relying on denying the opponent scoring instead. I've mixed and matched before - so this might be to taste or what you envisage their role being.

You might find the Domitar or Vorax easiest to swap to accommodate any changes you might wish to make - again, as others have mentioned - although Vorax are solid against certain lists (Troop-heavy potentially), and the Domitar could 'partner' the Homonculex, so this may just fit within your theme too. You may also consider looking to run the Vulturax individually rather than paired for versatility.

Either way - it's a great theme, and have fun trying out different variations!

Thanks everyone for the feedback, I’ve adjusted a little and tried to take on board the feedback and came up with this. I added an extra dominus but thought keeping on with the array would be useful for battle repairs. I really like thallax but I’m not sure what the best load out would be to support here. Figured a second wave rending assault might be best but I’m just theory hammering here.

Unsure about the castallax composition but keen to see how bigger squads go.

Figured two big thralls should cover obj missions easy enough and I’m sure there can be some conversion to represent the pure thought upgrade. I was keen on the vorax but it seems they might be a little underwhelming so thought the ursarax might be a bit of fun instead.

Seperate the vultarax and added a third thanatar because I clearly hate having friends. Don’t think there’s much more to say on that.

Like the new list it has a lot of power but can hold objectives to, ive never used ursarax so can’t comment on them, if you can I would recommend trying to convert on on the thanatars into a cynis, with the double shot, 8 blast plasma shots will ruin anyone’s day even if it is short range.
