Ok here goes my main ideas for my Chapter:

Battle-Brother Tral, 3rd Company of the White Ravens

Origins

The White Ravens Chapter was created sometime during M.39, in the time of the 24th Founding. Their current official goal is to guard the south-western borders against xenos and Chaos incursions. They have fought alongside many Astartes Chapters and Imperial Guard Regiments, operating on battlefields both near and far in the name of the Imperium.

Homeworld

The homeworld of the White Ravens is Voxen, a Hive World in the Strakos system. It has been noted that the Voxii have a high level of technology.

The Voxii take great pride in their war traditions and are trained from a very early age in the different aspects of Imperial warfare. As this is a warrrior society, many regiments are raised from Voxen. Approximately 50% of children are recruited into the off-world regiments, 25% are recruited into the planets Planetary Defence Forces and the remaining 25% are the workers, miners, slaves and other people that inhabit the Hives and the many mining colonies of the Durkas Mountains. Very little citizens make their way up to the higher echelons of the Voxii society, which is governed by a handful of merchant lords and mine owners.

Most of the planet's surface is covered in volcanoes and high mountain ranges. Hive cities are situated on the high-altitude plateau called Sea of Strakos and the mining colonies are situated all over the mountains, linked together by underground tunnels.

Once every two decades, during the Raven Trials held by Raven Priests, potential Astartes are assembled before the Raven's Canyon, the only safe way to the White Raven's fortress-monastary. Only the very best are selected and so the Chapter's number of new recruits is quite small, as not all aspirants survive the ardous trials.

Beliefs

- White Ravens strive to regain the genetical purity of their gene-seed

- notion of self-sacrifice is omnipresent in the Chapter teachings and traditions

- believe that they are tainted until they regain genetical purity

- only very few White Ravens have regained genetical purity through experimentation by the Chapter Raven Priests

- Raven Druids are the equivalent of the Wolf Priests of the Space Wolves Chapter, only they are not Chaplains but Librarians

- The Raven Priests are in charge of the Chapter's archives, as well as their spiritual duties

- believe that Corax and his Sons failed their duty at the battle of Istvaan V and that he is responsble for their tainted gene-seed

- each time a Marine dies, his gene-seed is taken to the Apothecarion and is used to try experiments on, so each death contributes to helping them regain genetical purity. (Note: they do not throw away their lives for no reason though!)

Combat Doctrine

- use thunder hammers extensively

- prefer close combat and face-to-face encounters with the enemy rather than ranged warfare

- dislike stealth and concealment

- use jump packs and Land Speeders extensively => brings them quicker into contact with the enemy and adds fast moving support that other vehicles cannot match

- will refuse to fight alongside the Raven Guard and any other of their successor Chapters

Organisation

- have no veteran company => veterans remain within the companies

- all veterans have TDA, except veteran sergeants leading tactical, devastator, assault and scout squads

- not many veterans => recent Chapter and not much TDA (approx. 40 suits)

- 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Companies->Battle Companies; 5th and 6th->Tactical Reserve; 7th and 8th->Assault Reserve; 9th->Devastator Reserve; 10th->nono-combat Recruitment Company

- Companies have differing numbers

- each Company has a different symbol, not a shoulder-pad trim colour

Gene-seed

"The degeneration of the Raven Guard gene-seed means several of the unique organs of the Space Marines no longer work properly or no longer grow. Raven Guard do not have the Mucranoid or Betcher's Gland. The Melanchromic Organ has a unique mutation that causes the skin of the Space Marine to grow paler. Eventually each Marine's skin becomes pure white while their hair and eyes darken, becoming black as coal." Dataslate Lexicanum

As descendants of the Raven Guard and fellow sons of Corax, the White Ravens share the most of the same flaws in their gene-seed, though they have tried to purify there gene-seed, with some minor successes. One of these small changes was their hair colour, which does not turn jet-black as the Marine gets older, but instead keeps the aspirant's original hair colour. This purification quest was predominantly caused by the shame of the Astartes of the White Ravens in having the same physical features as their founding Chapter.

Battlecry

"Only in Death will we find purity! To Death and beyond!"

That's all for the mo. Fell free to add ideas and add feedback!

Thanks,

Just a couple concerns,

first, I don't think any SM chapter refuse to fight along side others, but I may be wrong.

second, you have no scouts?

First, I don't think refusal to operate would happen in any over way, but it might still happen.

Think about the Templars refusing to fight alongside a Chapter noted for Librarians.

Second, I think he means no Scout Company.

For example, I have created IA's that don't have Scouts undertaking combat ops. but acting more like squires would.

That, or perhaps each Company keeps the humans it recruits?

I'm a bit unsure of the methods of warfare. The corruption of the geneseed of the Raven Guard (And successors) means that recruitment rate is slowed, making it hard to replace the losses that a brash, in-your-face combat style would engender.

I'm not advocating abandoning this idea, but it might require a good deal of thought and explanation.

Refuses to fight alongside other Raven Guard successors? I wonder how the White Ravens would react to my Purity-driven Red Lords?

Sounds pretty good overall - a disillusioned, bitter chapter that almost resents it's own existence and fights boldly almost in spite of the degraded gene-line it came from... Fun stuff.

Looking forward to seeing this one come together.

Actually, I just forgot to mention the Scout Company. There was supposed to be one, but I forgot to put it down. But now, I'll use your idea Captain Juarez and the Scouts are recruited by each company on their own and are raised in the same company.

As for the combat doctrine, each time a Marine dies, his gene-seed is taken to the Apothecarion and is used to try experiments on, so each death contributes to helping them regain genetical purity. (Note: they do not throw away their lives for no reason though!)

Red Lords? Could I have a link to your IA for them?

Thanks for your help chaps!

Thanks for that Ace! I'll give it a read and tell you what I think of it. :P I don't know if you remember but this is my IA from a few months ago (when the challenge started) and I've just revived it with new stuff added on/taken off.

Well, I thank you very much Juarez! Great idea! (Btw, do you have an IA?)

Well...the Chapter is under-size. And yes, they will have differing numbers. The Battle Companies recruit and train their novices all on their own. The Tactical Reserve Companies recruit all other recruits and then disperse them into each of the other Reserve Companies (e.g. the ones who show a excel at CC will go into the Assault Reserves, the ones who excel at ranged warfare go into the Dev. Reserve and the rest stay within the Tactical Reserves).

Maybe you could have an extra "training company" who ply the stars for recruits, instead of each recruiting their own?

But, wouldn't that be like a Scout Company?

Edit: I've added the Chapter colour scheme at the top. Tell me what you think!

No, because it would still be a non-combat Company - So, you would cycle in Veterans from other Companies to train the 'neophytes' in Ship-to-Ship or Hand-to-Hand and once their training cycle is done they return to their parent Company.

But instead of being based on your homeworld, have like a specialised roving Battlebarge that seeks out recruits.

For the scheme, the colours work well together although I'm not a fan of quartering!

Hm...ok. Good idea. I'll add it in a second. Thanks again Juarez!

To paint a quatered colour scheme is a pain in the  but I like it too :P

Indeed, I remember the name. So far the new version seems rather better than the old one. I'm looking forward to seeing the IA put together!

Colour scheme's cool too. I anticipated them to be white and red, rather than grey, but it still looks cool. :)

Thanks chaps! I don’t like the combination of white and red, it’s too bright (you may say “Yeah, but the yellow of the Imperial Fists is bright too!” but I think yellow armour is fine)

The grey is to represent the mountains of Voxen and the red is for the volcanoes/magma that powers the Chapter forges and most of the planet.
