@GrandMagnus

Thank you. It is mostly patience and practice, though the right tools help to make things easier.

@TerraZero20

Thanks, the pictures in the first post are actually the closest colour-wise, to how they look in reality, the later pics came out a bit too bright.

@Lexingtom

Thank you.

Progress is still rather slow, but with the ETL here I hope I can up the pace a bit.

I Ashmantle rise to the challenge of E TENEBRAE LUX and vow to complete One Assault Squad, consisting of 5 Marines, 2 armed with Flamers, one a Veteran Sergeant armed with Thunderhammer and Combat Shield from Codex: Space Marines of total value of 140 points on or before August 1st, 2015. Success will bring eternal glory to the Salamanders Chapter of the Adeptus Astartes and failure will doom me to bear the Badge of the Oathbreaker until the year-end.

Unto the anvil, brothers!

Picture to follow as soon as I can manage.

As you can see I started work on a Sergeant, since I am out of running legs (I used the last pair on my conversion of Pellas Mir'san), I am attempting to convert a pair using a part from the vehicle sprue as a base.

The Thunderhammer is originally from the Vanguard kit, with the lower part of the handle cut off and replaced by a brass rod covered in green suff.

Not yet sure what I will be doing for the pommel, I am leaning to something similar to Coteaz' hammer, but if you have a suggestion I would love to hear it.

Work on the Flamers continues:

That's it for the moment.

C&C welcome as always.

Again, your green stuff'in skills make me jealous because this is what I want my Salamanders to look like, but I've usually failed pretty hard trying to do the GS myself.  Usually ends up too thick in most spots.

Keep going on the 5 man squad though, because at the end it will look amazing!

For the hammer, I'd suggest having a dragon tooth at the end.  Might not be 100% practical, but would be a good sharp edge to stab into someone on a back swing.

@Acez

Thank you, I like the idea for the hammer, I will see if I can make it work. Please do keep trying!

@GrandMagnus

Thanks.

The Sergeants legs slowly take shape.

gallery_68666_10834_252071.jpg

A bit more ornamentation for the second flamer.

gallery_68666_10834_126959.jpg

Some progress on the hammer, the other side of the head is still bare.

gallery_68666_10834_481339.jpg

This dragon got some scales.

gallery_68666_10834_77868.jpg

The chainswords pommel got some filigree added.

C&C welome.

Wow, no kidding this is some amazing sculpting work! I'm happy when I can just get my green stuff to fill gaps or hold my magnets. This is grade A self-made conversion work, here! biggrin.png

@eetdestroyer

All signs point to normal, unaugmented human msn-wink.gif

@Charlo

Thank you.

@Vel'Cona

Thanks. As I mentioned earlier, patience and practice can go a long way. I imagine filling gaps is where most of us started with their green stuff work.

@One-eye

Thank you.

@Bloodbath

Thanks. Wait, you mean that isn't how it works normaly? msn-wink.gif

Progress! Still far slower than I would like, but at least it's there...

Still pondering if I should do the greaves as mk iv or mk vi.

The foundation for the dragontooth is done, as well as the flame ornament on the head. I might have to revisit the flame on the other side, it's a bit flat in comparison.

C&C welcome.

When people work with green stuff tools do they use any liquid to reduce the friction between the tool and green stuff? I just lick the tip of the tool every now and again.

@HardCoil

Thank you.

@Zeller

I just use water. In general I have yet to hear from someone not using some kind of liquid when working with green stuff, though if they use some other, less sticky kind of putty they may not need to use anything of the kind.

Small update:

The hammer nears completion.

gallery_68666_10834_146913.jpg

The pommel still needs some more work.

I built the foundation for the combat shield, represented by two small shields mounted on his forearms:

gallery_68666_10834_92791.jpg

gallery_68666_10834_10072.jpg

I also added some ornamentation to the armor on the elbows, not sure yet if that will stay, get reworked or completely removed...

Quite far from being done yet, but it is a start.

C&C welcome as always.

For the moment updates will probably continue to be small and slow, since I have to wait for the green stuff to cure before I can work further unless I want to risk messing up and having to re-do previously done stuff.

Progress on the sergeants legs and one of the shields:

gallery_68666_10834_78785.jpg

gallery_68666_10834_10756.jpg

Not much else to say at the moment... lots of little corrections to be done once the green stuff is fully cured. I might add a piece of salamander hide like the one one of the flamer equipped marines has.

C&C welcome as always.

Thank you.

Another small update:

gallery_68666_10834_91909.jpg

Not much to say at the moment, I built the foundation for the salamander hide, which will get another layer on top, before I will add the scales.

Currently trying to decide what kind of details to add to the ablative armor plates on the legs. Anyone got a suggestion?

And another little experiment:

A possible helmet for the sergeant, inspired by one of the artworks from Greyall, still very much wip.

Progress, slow but it is there:

gallery_68666_10834_299475.jpg

Added scales to the piece of hide and dragonheads to the elbow armour.

gallery_68666_10834_38676.jpg

Smoothed out the faceplate, currently trying to decide if I should add little flames coming out of the space between the faceplate and the pipes. Something like the flames in this post.

C&C welcome as always.
