Vengance from the Shadows

Hey guys, so long time no update. I'm glad to see that people have been enjoying it and (hopefully) used this as inspiration. I have seen those Anvil Indusry models, at first I thought they were awesome, but the more I looked the more I saw the same problems you all have. They are clunky, and just a bit to much. There are still good ideas, ones to be taken and incorporated but I doubt I will every use those models.

So for the Alpha Legion..... I have (once again) changed my mind. I want to do something else, it's sort of a carry on of this idea. But a different Legion, the XIX legion. Alongside the Alpha Legion, the Raven Guard are my first love. Similar operus mondi, although more direct and slightly less convulted, less human agents, I see them as more military intelligence, to the Alpha Legion secret service.

So the idea, it's something I have been thinking about for a while. Now, I dislike Deliverance Lost, the change in law is not my favourite part of the series, but it does allow for my idea. I don't think Corax is an idiot (as much as DL would have us believe), the Alpha Legions capabilities have been shown to him, how can he ignore what they can do. But he has a war to fight, and not enough men to throw at it. He also has a dislike for the Terrans of his legions, and those he had to free in order to fight his war of liberation against the tech guild. So what if he takes a group of warriors, Terrans, killers, broken survivors of Isstvan, those lost to the curse of the gene seed, and some of the more psychotic of his experiments, pulled together to work as a strike team. Unified by their shared legacy and tactics, their aim is to strike back at the Alpha Legion, and any other traitor that stands in their way. They don't have the network of the Alpha Legion but they do have contacts in the Imperial Army and Mechanicum. They are the spec op strike team striking from darkness. They are the fire to burn the hydras head.

Well that's the idea, a mix of Alpha Legion and Raven Guard. I have some background planned, they can link with my Mechanicum and Imperial Army as well. Here's slow progress in my first strike squad.

I have experimented with plastics for the Mark VI, and to try and make a specialist Mark VI helm. I plan to use a mix of armour from II through VI.

I love the concept you're going for here. I didn't really like DL either, but this has got legs...

That Iron Hands head looks great on the guy in the middle. Almost like a proto-Beakie helmet. And, as ever, I love your conversion work. The extra bits are perfect too... I love the silencers...

I love this idea.

Cheers :)

Raven Guard striking back at the Alpha Legion with a smidge of their own tactics is nothing but justice. Pure, sweet, throat-slit-from-the-shadows justice.

I like the marine in the middle.

The Alpha Legion's hubris needs to be punished!

Cheers mate, I didn't mind the Alpha Legion attack on Deliverance in DL, I can even forget the poor characters, I just wish they kept the genetics as a :cuss up instead of foul play

Demon2027 what kit is that straight arm holding the bolter from??? I wanna pick a few up :)

Do you mean the Headhunter from page 3? I believe it was from the mark IV despoiler squad, but tbh my bits box is quite large and unorganised so I could be wrong.

Ok, still not set up in my new room, and living out of boxes but I have built another 3 Rookery Brothers for the first strike team. I have decided to go with a PotL force, with Verterans as troops. Fits my idea well, especially as the Vets can with infiltrate or take the Darkwing. Will then leave the elites as Mor Deythan squads and contemptors, for which I might make my own sub pattern. I am also planning some Deliverers, but I am not sure on them just yet.

Sgt in the middle, armed simply with a Gladius, another vet brother, and a heavy weapon expert in modified Mark III.

I like the idea of using tribal art on future models, but being English, I fancy going with a more Saxon style. Now this brings them closer to how I see the Space Wolves so I won't push it to far, but I think it can work. There are some similarities, and I hope they keep the bit of background were the Raptors were used to overrun an enemy fortress and the Space Wolves witnessed but kept silent due to their own legion monsters.

Oh man, they look killer! Love the Raven Skull on the HB marine! You think about using the destroyer's Rad Missle Launcher as a Variant HB? I know I am :p

Tribal signs, I'd say keep to the Mor Deythan or Dark Furies if you don't want to have them everywhere since they were the closest ones to Corax. And it seems that the Tribal markings were a Deliverance thing not so much a Terran thing? I don't even know anymore... Doesn't help that the FW art of Corax has his armor with the markings on it.

You could go full Space Wolf but with Ravens on them too. So, literal Crows Feet charms, Plumage Capes or Kamas, Deliverance Slave/Prisoner Tattoos, runes and other markings, etc.

I'd like to see and RG force painted like they were coming out of a thick, dense fog. So White-gray at the front fading to a black near the back with smoke swirls on the transitional areas.

If you think you could pull it off, I think these marines would fit the bill.

Thanks, I hadn't though about using the destroyer rad launcher, quite a good idea getting that heavy bolter in a position I liked was a pain, and I had to shave down the mark III arm to make it fit.

Yeah I will only use markings for specialist units such as Delivers and Dark Furries. Mor Deythan I'm not sure, I may hold back to see what FW do, I'm guessing I may be in for a wait, I think RG will be the last to get anything from the Istvaan trilogy. Also with the Dark Furries I want to try and use the Night Raptor helms, wings cut off, the deamon style toned down, making them like dark Angels (from mythology, not the first legion). The idea is in my head, just unsure how to bring it to life.

I like your idea regarding painting, I was going to use grey/silver as a base with black washes to darken it, lik I gave done before, but if I experiment with grey shades I can possibly get an effect like you suggest. For metals they will be dark, with a harshish, grey edge. Power weapons I want to try and do something like those shown as used by the Alpha Legion in Extermination.

Glad I gave you some ideas! :p

You could do your power weapons like Sockwithaticket. Ie: the weapons blade is a dark color nearing black with only the edges being a brighter color : http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/240799-crimson-tears-occasional-allies-update-151014/?p=3716981

I think your idea for a scheme would come out rather nice. maybe try mixing some black into the silver base color to get a really dark silver from the start?

Metals you could try for a black nickel or black chrome effect?

That is very close to how I want to do my power weapons, thanks, had given me a great idea.

Nickel is a good idea, maybe add a little gold to the initial silver then darken it, then a sharp highlight. Would give some variation. Non power blades will just be blackened steel.

The last 4 members of the squad:

And them all together

The group are equipped with a variety of armour types, along with some personal modifications. Most are armed with Tigrus bolters due to the more compact nature of this model, however Vox Brother Botolf does hold a modified Umbra Ferrox bolter probally produced on Kiavahr. Each squad member is well equipped, carrying more ammo and grenades then standard practice, allowing the squad to operate without supply for long periods of time.
