++// 2015 Augustus' Arena \\++ EVENT ENDED

Recommended Posts

Time for another WIP, and another call for advice from my honoured brethren of the Bolter and Chainsword. Alaric Tyr is, as a few may remember, one of the last Terran Captains to survive the purge (such as it was) of the Terran Raven Guard, a purge which saw the greater majority of the Terran legionnaires exiled from the Legion under Shade Lord Arkhas Fal. Tyr's position is a strange one, as he escaped exile from the Legion by dint of being stationed too far afield to meet the muster called by Corax for the purpose of casting out the Terran legionnaires, and by the time he rejoined the rest of the Legion, the Legion was commanded to deploy to Istvaan, and those few Terrans remaining were allowed to remain out of necessity, being deployed instead in the first waves alongside their erstwhile Lycaean brothers to the surface of Istvaan.

So Tyr resents his own Legion for casting his kind out, and is aware that his continued command is a function of purest exigency- the Legion needs warriors to fight at Istvaan, regardless of their heritage. Were it not for the outbreak of the Heresy, he too would have been declared exile with his Terran brothers. He holds rank still - and commands both Terran and Lycaeans under the same company banner - yet he is very much a relic of a past with which the Legion, and the Primarch, have severed all ties.

To this end, I wanted to represent a sense of fatalism and mourning with Alaric Tyr; both mourning for those who are lost at Istvaan, but also - and maybe more importantly from Tyr's point of view - mourning for those who were in his eyes wrongfully cast out for committing no crime other than being of the old Xeric temperament, those who will never again fight as part of the XIX Legion, and could very well - for all he knows - already have fallen to the madness gripping the galaxy at the Heresy's outbreak. From this sense of loss and isolation comes a very fatalistic world-view. As much as Tyr remains committed to his own Legion brothers in the wake of the Drop Site Massacre, and will do all in his power to secure his brothers' escape from the planet, he must be aware that he is living on borrowed time; ultimately he's a Legionnaire whose own Legion no longer wants him, and there may be very little left for him to do other than to fight and die amidst the ash dunes of Istvaan, seeking death with honour, rather than to survive and meet the ignominious fate which surely awaits him; exile and ostracism.

So my thinking would be that he would have chosen to keep his armour jet-black, both to represent mourning and as a subtle way of distancing himself from Legion command, with whom he no longer sees eye-to-eye and is now primarily composed of Lycaeans. He'd maybe even allow the ash-grey taint of the dust of Istvaan to permanently mark his armour, as a callback to the ancient heraldry of the Terran XIXth. It would also rather cleverly tie into the eventual colour scheme of the Chapter which would one day bear Tyr's own name.

Alternatively, I could keep his armour in line with RG command heraldry - black lower limbs, white helm, torso and arms. Any thoughts? I am leaning towards the all-black route for the reasons I've explained above, but would welcome any thoughts.

As he is now, prior to black washes:

Last Dread is finished

And that finishes the Talon as well as the challenge

I really wanted the Relic to be as different as possible from the other Dreads for fluff reasons. I hope that comes across in the painting more than just the amount of decorations and "trophies".

mourning can be over the top or very subtle. It depends the route you chose to go. I almost feel like he should keep his same armor but maybe wear a regular helm to remember a time when he wad a part of the raven guard and now what the legion has become.

Dosjetka challenge to paint a Imperial Fist Sergant, which I ended up making as my first blood counter has now been completed.

I never expsected bitz order to arrive as soon & just with this week not being to busy.  I've also needed to get a object painted up for a Tale of x gamer type thing & this has help me add it in.  While general gaming, this is being aim as my first blood counter, which really help during a recent hard fought game.

I've been a bad boy and haven't updated anything for a week but I have not been idle. I actually rescuplted and repainted Uzas' cloak, finished painting Cyrion, build and completed Talos, and started working on Xarl. So here's a huge update of all that I've done in the past week:

Uzas' new cloak (more cloak WIP pics here and more finished pics here):

Allright ladies and gentlemen: the last week of the first poule of challenges has started! Some in the Arena have already finished their challenge and there's even a suuuper early finish of a third poule participant (more on those later). That in itself is awesome, but there's still plenty of Frater who have yet to finish -myself included-, and some even who have yet to begin work on their challenge! :tongue.:

With only one week left, it's going to be tight. So plan your hobby time accordingly, it is still possible to prove yourself worthy of the Arena. For those who do not make it, the Mea Culpa banner awaits....! :biggrin.:

UPDATED TO THIS POINT!

As always, please check the second post, hyperlinked above, and if there's anything that I've missed, please PM me. :tu:

Question for the brethren. Can a completiom date be changed after it has been accepted?

NO! The whole idea of the event is set your own deadline as the main part of accepting a challenge. It's your choice which deadline you choose, but if set, the deadline is chiseled in plascrete!!!

@200plus: congratulations on a stunning completion, mate. Those three contemptors are very characterful, and you've done an excellent job basing them and making them look different, but still unified. Great job!

@Insane Psychopath: My felicitations on a very early third poule completion, buddy! That's one cool looking Iron Warrior. If you want, I'll add you to the list of Completions of the first poule. It'll allow you to challenge an additional frater and accept another challenge (which would be cool as we have several Frater still waiting at being challenged.). :tu:

@Red Skullz: Congrats to you too, mate. A very nice, grimy DKoK squad and transport right there. Nice weathering all round, and as I said earlier, I like that you went with a white base colour. :tu:

ONE WEEK LEFT FOR THE MARCH 15th DEADLINE POULE!!!

Thanks & yes if that ok?

For future challenge.  Need to see as April/May usely busy time of year for me.  I am hoping to get a week off next week & aim to get a new Predator battle tank to my Iron Warriors before all that happen :D

But I will issue a challenge

I, Insane Psychopath, challenge Master pendragon to build, paint, and base a converted unit of Chaos Space Marine Chosen. If they accepts and completes the challenge, eternal glory will be there. If they accepts and fails, s/he shall wear the badge of shame until Midsummer.

This is the first time this event is run, and there's some smoothing out of the format we'll do at the end - hopefully with some feedback from you, the participants. 200plus has asked me if he could challenge someone new and I'm going to allow this: Dosjetka is still waiting for a challnge!!

I, Kongou, accept the challenge set to me by Insane Psychopath, and vow that I will finish building, painting, and basing a unit of converted Chaos Space Marine Chosen before April 19th. Completion will earn me eternal glory, while failure shall yield me shame until Midsummer.

Mutilators WIP. Fluff will be in my Siege Makers thread.

Hey Beachymike123, interesting conversions! It seems like you do a different color scheme for each Mutilator. I'm curious about your plans and how the guys will turn out.

I myself am still waiting for parts to arrive, but that's ok since I'm also pretty busy right now. But I hope to start working on my Dreadnoughts soon.
