Soldier of Dorn

Recommended Posts

I'll give it a little twist but consider it used. msn-wink.giftongue.png

Change it?!?! Precious Rippan's name?

...

Probably for the best. :P

Lol ... The Right Honourable Rev'rend Rip (who's gonna dare say he's not honourable) and Rev'rend Tear are two brothers who found the calling late on in life. There are quite a few rather interesting rumours about what they did before the light of The Emperor guided them towards the most holy work of The Rev'rends. Whenever asked they just snigger and wink at each other.

First off, congratulations to Uveron for being our first completion! Those scouts look brilliant, mate! (By the by, didja ever manage to fix that heavy bolter barrel on the Baal Pred fixed? Just curious...)

Thanks! I had planned to respond to this post but not got around to it!

I added Green stuff to the Bolter Barrel and then will try drilling them out again soon!

I, Augustus b'Raass, vow on the honour of the Emperor, Dorn and my humble self to paint at least a five-man unit of Space Marine Devastators with a Veteran Sergeant, two Graviton Cannons-and-Graviton Amplifiers, and an Armourium Cherub for 150 points before the end of this month. Failure will damn me to complete this unit at a later date. msn-wink.giftongue.png

Think I'm going to spend the rest of the month kitbashing stuff ready to have a choice as to what to paint up next month.

I really want to get cracking with some DW but don't want to just do characters which I tend to do. So I need to finish off converting up the Stalker bolters I've started. I also want to have a play around with ideas for the younger Inquisior and finish off his 3 Servitors with plasma cannons. Lol ... Did I really get a £35 kit to kitbash 60 points worth of models?

@Augustus: These Knights will be from House Ærthegn, more specifically from my own clan the "Dvar Mævex", who are a neutral/renegade marauding/pirate who know no master. They are basically red and black and will be having trophies of enemy Knights and skulls etc. My finished Cerastus-Styrix is on page 3 of my plog which will give you an idea of where I am going.

Now I just have to wait for the base coat to fully dry before I get this guy done.

Loveing it! I think the Masters of the Chapter models are fantastic!

What have you done with the rest of the model?

So it would seem my personal theme for this event has been experimenting in everything from my modeling to my painting. In following that trend I did a couple more "firsts" on the seekers.

First I took my first real stab at OSL on the backpack light of my comms specialist. When I say my first stab at OSL I mean I something besides plasma/volkite coils and on those I've never extended the light beyond the sides of the weapon. So with all that said I could really use some input from some of you more veteran painters. I know I still need to do a little work to the light itself it still needs a highlight or two but I'm more refering to the actual "glow" on the side of his helmet etc.

For some reason it just feels a little off to me I'm not sure why what do you guys think? The second "first" is I just got my grubby lil mitts on a set of "rust" weathering powders which I plan to use a lot and I'm going to pick up some more colors today. I'm really happy with the effect this stuff has aside from the fact I think I did the colors in the opposite order from what I should have does anyone have any tips or tricks for working with this stuff?

Any input you guys have would be greatly appreciated

I think once the light source is obvious it will make more sense to the eyes. Right now you know where the lights coming from but it's actually darker than the effect area.

Lol ... I'm no expert but that's what my eyes are tellin me. ;)

@Aug: Heavy Weapon Specialist (Grav Cannon) -Crassus Haelson

@Pyro: The skull marking on the marine is superb! Are you sure you don't have a little bit of VIIIth legion blood in you? :P I don't think there's anything 'wrong' with the OSL persay, but perhaps it's due to having a green OSL on a green armour? That's my opinion at least. Might have worked a bit better with a contrasting colour. But I think at the very least you should lighten it up a bit towards where it's coming from, as SW1 has suggested. Bases are looking good though :)

@ Aquilanus & Aeternas: Awesome names. They've been recorded and slightly 40K-ified. ;)

@Pyro: I agree with Aeternas about your presumed VIII blood (seriously, those terror markings look great) and the light. I think your armour is supposed to be black, no? Or green? In any case, I thinkthe light itself could do with some lighter colours to make it 'pop', and to show where the glow is coming from. Also, light doesn't bend around corners, so the top edge of the signum, the one facing forward, should not have glow on it. But that's the only thing I can think of that is truly 'wrong' with the OSL. I seriously think that if you lighten up the light itself, it'll look far more realistic and those little bendy-lighty details won't be noticed anymore.

@ SW1, Aeternas, and Augustus thank you all very much I really appreciate the feedback I'm gonna do a little work on the actual light once I get home and go over some of the wonky spots where the light wouldn't actually be :D As for the mention the VIIIth it's funny you guys would mention that as both of you guys' night lords are part of what has inspired me to build some of my own. Since I'm planning on building army's with/for my daughter's and they'll both be playing loyalists with sisters allies I think it's high time I finally scratch that itch and build some propper traitors. And since I can't ever make up my mind on anything I'm gonna go with World Eaters Night Lords and Death Guard so I'll be doing a little bit of each of those legions here and there to mix things up a bit.

My weekly update is early. I finally got the drop pod finished. I went over the top on the weathering, but for a tin can burning through the atmosphere, crashing to the ground, I think it'should suitable. There are some places that need some more wash, but I'm done fooling with this one for now.

@ codyrstuart thanks man that's sorta what I'm gonna try to do on it I was going to tonight but I got sidetracked lol imagine that. Your drop pod looks awesome man I'd definitely say it was worth the hassle.

@ my purple pink and gold wearing brethren I was having a rummage through old bits and pieces today and I found some treasures.

The odds of me building any kakophani any time soon are about the same as the odds of me taking up the jazz flute. But since I know some of you are in your lists I thought I'd see if any of you can use them if so shoot me a pm

Just wondering if what I want to do will be allowed? I'm trying to get as many different chapters pads out of the pads in my collection as possible. To visually work out what I have I want to get them painted up before working out who's getting what weapon load outs.

So would I be allowed to get the pads painted up without vowing any models? Then once I work out who's having what weapons/model I can vow the models.

@ SW1: as this is a hobby challenge, focussed on productivity and quality and not a competition thing, I'd find it hard to believe that that would not be allowed.

Hey guys, I made the Devastators and they're ready for their first coat of primer.

This guys still needs a name, though, so if Brother Androcles, deusmex, mactire, lionofjudah, or Player 404 would be so kind to name him, I'd be thrilled!

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/Devastator%20XI%20spotter%20WIP_zpslf4cs6fv.jpgHe's meant to be the spotter of the Devastator's first combat squad. He's bareheaded because he just put his helmet down. Yes, it makes him more vulnerable and yes, his helmet's suit would probably give him data - but there's nothing like measuring the atmosphere with your own senses when it comes to spotting for a heavy weapon (just don't mind that these guys are close range spray and pray guns wink.png )

The other guys who already have names are:

Veteran sergeant - Jahan Hothgar - Dosjetka
