Thanks, you two. Here´s the first character I painted up for the Fifth Company:

Chaplain Tarkys Kaprellian, the Redeemer - named by Dosjetka

II Tactical Squad

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/WP_20151227_027_zpskzohwpqn.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/WP_20151227_005_zpsxwp0xdd5.jpg

Veteran sergeant - Bernad Jakin - MrBear
A former breacher, Sergeant Jakin of II Squad has kept his breacher shield. He brings it to war when up-and-close fighting is expected, and has a reputation in Fifth Company as a cunning strategist, as well as a mean fighter. Jakin scratches close combat kill markings on the inside of his shield each campaign, a habit he has picked up from brother Valgraf.
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/WP_20151227_023_zpsv18oicyj.jpg

Comms specialist - Kilian Miattas - HellChyld
As a communications specialist and spotter for the heavy weapons operator, brother Miattas performs a pivotal role in II Squad. Known for his expressive nature, he is sometimes berated by sergeant Jakin for cluttering the squads vox link with overtly descriptive chatter.
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/WP_20151227_013_zpscfyg8ps8.jpg

Heavy Weapon Specialist (Lascannon) - Hartwin Wolv - Teetengee
An expert marksman, brother Wolv rose through the ranks of Fifth Company to become a Devastator within three decades. He was chosen by Jakin to bolster II Squad's anti-armour role. http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/WP_20151227_016_zpsuf5ovqrs.jpg

Battle Brother - Odram Valgraf - Apologist
Brother Valgraf is young, ambitious, and displays a stoic aggression. These traits has led him to specialize in void warfare, for which he is sometimes called upon by the company´s command. His armour, including the anvillus pattern backpack, reflects his specialty.
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/WP_20151227_010_zpsdgp7bjkt.jpg

Battle Brother - Ernust Konad - codyrstuart
A former sergeant, Konad failed to complete his vow of killing 100 greenskins in a day during the Ortan Crusade of 987.M40. Instead of the pain glove, Konad chose to serve for a decade as a brother-of-the-line, as punitive action. During this time, he fulfilled a pivotal role as counselor to Sergeant Jakin and the other members. His stony friendship with Brother Valgraf is the source of camaraderie within the squad.

I hope you like them. Thanks for looking. Feedback always welcome. :smile.:

Oh that's awesome. That head look's great on him and the leg swap works really well

Chers brother. Yeah it's a nifty, simple little conversion that worked out pretty well. He's done great in battle too - last week he smacked a full squad of Dark Elder Reaver Jerbikes who hadn't seen him lurking around the corner. ;)

The question that come with every IF thread: how do you get your yellow? Lovely models, by the way.

My Imperial Fists painting recipe can be found here, but the short version is:

  • Prime white.
  • Basecoat yellow areas with GW Averland Sunset.
  • Shade yellow with a 1:1 mix of GW Averland Sunset and VMA Hull Red (upwards zenithal spray with the airbrush does the trick)
  • Bring the yellow back up again with a light downwards zenithal spray of GW Averland Sunset
  • Gloss Varnish all over.
  • Add decals, after which I spray the decals with Gloss Varnish for added strength.
  • 'Blackline' the yellow areas with GW Agrax Earthshade Gloss.
  • Edge highlight yellow areas with 1:1 mix of GW Averland Sunset and GW Yriel Yellow
  • Satin Varnish all over.

Fantastic work

Thanks, buddy! Your Psychopomps are an inspiration. Not to these IFs specifically, but the detail you put in every single miniature has. :)

Another squad in my 1250 points tournament army, one of two devastator squads. These guys come equipped standard with flak missiles.

IX Devastator Squadhttp://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/WP_20160104_021_zpsrxr2aier.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/WP_20160104_020_zpscpct78wd.jpg

Veteran sergeant - Erhard Zeikfried - SanguiniusReborn

A proud but practical officer, Brother Sergeant Zeikfried is known among his brothers as stern but just. He is known among his brothers in Fifth Company for his joviality and camaraderie when accepting victory, and his dedication to those under his command. Although difficult to truly anger, though, he sometimes berates those under his command for the slightest deviations from the codex, in order to keep them focussed during longer missions.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/WP_20160104_028_zpsnwthpfip.jpg

Vexilarius - Lukas Mondez GrandMagnus

Brother Mondez earned the honour of carrying a squad's banner after spotting a band of flanking Ork specialists and rigging the trench -which they were going to use to cover their approach- with melta charges, thereby saving his brothers from injury, possible death, and failing their mission.
EDIT: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO In my haste to correct the lack of the Squad's Roman Numeral, I've put the IX transfer on upside-down!!!! DOOH! I'll need to correct that asap. Sorry, GrandMagnus!!!
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/WP_20160104_025_zpscpu7emci.jpg

Heavy Weapon Specialist (Lascannon) - Ventsel Svatopluk - Quixus
A newer addition to IX Squad, Brother Svatopluk is an ace sniper and eager for kills. He has, however, a propensity of choosing individual targets of opportunity over tactically more advantageous targets, which led Sergeant Zeikfried to ask Brother Iscarion to keep a close eye on him.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/WP_20160104_022_zpskvjegcf9.jpg

Heavy Weapon Specialist (Lascannon) - Theodus Iscarion - jifel

Iscarion is a stalwart warrior who has been in IX Squad for four decades. He has taken up the informal role of tutor to Brother Svatopluk, and his calming presence has saved the squad in many dire situations.
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/WP_20160104_034_zps5g9o4wd8.jpg

Battle Brother - Tevi Kozlov, callsign "Goat" - jimbo13

Called 'goat', by his brothers, Brother Tozlov earned his callsign after mimicking the sound a particularly panicked cultist warrior made in its last moments, during the Althovian Punishment crusade.

Fantastic!

I love the story you are adding for each guy. Its not a huge amount but its evocative and adds so much depth to the collection.

The Gold Standard.

Thank you, mate! That's very high praise. Writing a tiny bit of fluff about each guy is really a rewarding experience, and gives a very lively final aspect of the process of creating these miniatures. :tu:

As someone who lacks inspiration for poses, this thread is a gold mine. Thanks for updating it.

I'm glad you recognize the effort. Posing is super important to me - I always use myself as a guideline for poses - feeling if something works or not, and if a pose is balanced. :tu:

Awesome work as always!

Cheers, buddy!

Man, the decals are flawless (even the upside down one).  I am clearly doing something wrong or don't have the patience of Job.

On poses: have you ever actually posed the model yourself?  It may seem strange to do, but if it's not "natural" IRL, then it may look off on the model.  Although I'm sure people get into all sorts of weird positions in battle, as a snapshot moment I find it helps.  Sometimes.

Hi Race, thanks again for your interest!

About the transfers: the trick is to first gloss varnish the surface, then put tiny cuts along the sides of the transfers to help them 'fold' around the shoulder pads. The you grab the transfer with a pair of pliers, wet them until the transfer gets loose, then hold the transfer to a paper towel to suck the water away, then dab it with a brush drenched in Micro Sol decal softener. After 30 seconds, apply the transfer, using a brush and a sharp knife edge to put them in position. Then lightly stroke the transfer with a brush so all water is gone underneath it, and then dab it with a paper towel. Then spray gloss varnish over it to seal it. DONE! I usually spray Satin Varnish over completely finished models too.

About the poses, yeah, I almost always pose myself for each and every miniature. I have a background in theater and martial arts, so I´m pretty aware of my own body pose and balance. It helps a lot when posing miniatures realistically. Sometimes you see other pp´s mini´s and you see the pose they wanted to convey, but they failed because it doesn´t look right. Contemptors are a good example of this. People tend to pose their legs way too straight, or their abdominals in an awkward position. The trick is to have the pelvis and abdomen almost align perfectly vertically, and bend the knees a bit more than you think is natural.

EDIT: more detail in the transfer application process. Plus a notice that the upside down transfer has been corrected ;)

Scout Captain Kirdel Tion
Scout Captain Tion of 10th company is a legend among his subordinates, who operates from the shadows in the field as he does during operations. If the mission requires it, however, he personally oversees specialist long range shooting operations, for his strategic timing is rivalled only by that of a few Company Captains.http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/WP_20160108_018_zpsmmnm2ldm.jpg

I Scout Squad

Sergeant - Hradin Voroka - Kelborn
Voroka is agile, resourceful, and has a tactical mind that is perfect for covert operations. He therefore was never inducted into any of the Chapter´s Battle companies, but remained in the Scout Company and dedicated his duties to training initiates.
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/WP_20160108_029_zpsoiwrwxa7.jpg

Heavy Weapons Specialist - Metzger Anderr - SalvationOfReason
Anderr is a recent addition to I Scout Squad, having only recently graduated from the initiation trials of the Imperial Fists. His propensity for heavy weapons became apparent quite early in the trials, and he was allowed to specialise sooner than others. His future as a true brother in one of the battle companies is all but guaranteed.
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/WP_20160108_037_zpseruggtf5.jpg

Comms Specialist - Anselm Cynebalt - kobrakei
Cynebalt's is a comms specialist against his will. After repeated signs of individualism, Captain Tion ordered him to a serve a five year penitent duty, so as to teach Cynebalt to operate as part of a team.
This guys is a nifty conversion, if I may say so myself. His left arm is a scout combat knife arm and shoulder, with a Scions hand with communicator, of which the cable is connected to the body on the back with a simple blob of milliput. The right arm is a scout bolt pistol arm and shoulder, with a BaC bolter and hand. The antennae are from mechanicum kits, which I got from KrautScientist. Thank buddy!

Battle Brother - Gerbern Meinrad Alpharaz
II Scout Squad's former comms specialist, Meinrad reluctantly accepted his return to a duty as a brother initiate. His is now dedicated to show sergeant Voroka that despite his skill as a specialist, he is able to perform regular duties still.

Battle Brother - Albert Trum Midnight Runner
A taciturn scout, initiate Trum has consistently shown his skill as a scout and his mastery of all scout operations. He has recently conveyed his desire to serve as a scout sergeant in the near future. Sergeant Voroka deemed speaking about desire as an unwanted sign of ambition, and reminded Trum that patience is a trait he still needs to learn before he´ll truly be ready as a scout sergeant.

VI Tactical Squad :Troops:

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/WP_20160208_008_zpsn3ldhsns.jpg

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/WP_20160208_009_zpseemncdaq.jpg

Veteran sergeant - Johannu Ermik - hushrong

A blood-sworn gang-brother to Sergeant Kolan of IV Squad, having led a short life of crime and violence before being inducted into the Chapter, Sergeant Johannu Ermik is one of the most steadfast adherents to the Imperial Creed of Fifth Company. He leads his squad with zeal, and inspires his battle brothers with frequent Echlessiarchical litanies. His perceived quiet demeanor betray a deep faith in the Emperor's will, and he is being watched by Chaplain Kaprellian for his qualities in inspiring the men under his command. Ermik´s squad suffered casualties during the last campaign, and has been supplemented with two additions recently.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/WP_20160208_022_zpswhhbi4cx.jpg

Comms specialist - Adolar Notker - Nemac Vradon

Specialist Notker has served sergeant Ermik for six decades. He has copied his strong belief in the Creed, and always carries a copy of Chaplain Kaprellion's latest sermon with him. He sees his duty as a comms officer as a sacred task laid out for him by the Emperor´s will.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/WP_20160208_010_zpsp90b6weh.jpg

Heavy Weapon Specialist (Lascannon) - Fridrik Kolnar thamier

A former scout sniper, Specialist Kolnar combines the fervour of specialist Notker with the steadfastness of Sergeant Ermik. Outside daily training rituals or combat, during the 15 minutes of daily free time, Kolnar seeks out Notker to engage him in religious polemic. They share a bond which the seal by ritually writing Kaprellian's sermons on parchment and carrying it with them in battle. http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/WP_20160208_019_zpsr4vlky03.jpg

Battle Brother - Nikolowz Leofstan - TDF

Brother Leofstan is a recent addition to IV Squad, having been assigned to the squad from one of the reserve companies to replace recent losses. Leofstan is a marksman, and has had part of his cranium replaced with a bionic implant to enhance his vision and targeting abilities. The implant affected his personality, making him more calculating and efficient in carrying out his duties, but making him less in touch with his fellow Astartes. Although his skills are appreciated by his brothers, he is still getting used to Ermik´s leadership style.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/WP_20160208_016_zpsq3endmra.jpg

Battle Brother - Drakkarus Vorn Dragonlover

Having recently completed his initiation trials, Brother Vorn´s service with VI Squad is his first as a true Astartes. He has been  welcomed by his brothers, but still feels the need to prove himself as a recent inductee. Recent actions have shown him to be competitive with the other recent addition to VI squad, Brother Leofstan. As such, further psycho-indoctrination might be deemed neccesary.

Tactical squad is looking great... I've not 40k'd in a real long time but... don't tactical squads have 10 dudes??

Just kidding

Battle brother Leofstan is my fav of this group, especially dig the double axe on one shoulder and double grenades in the other! This guys here to party!

Haha, thanks. And about the numbers: not if you shoot half of them. ;) Attrition was high among the Imperial Fists during the 32nd Millenium, which is the period I'm basing my Fists on.

II Scout Squad

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/WP_20170321_004_zpsakologz4.jpg

Sergeant - Alexos Travier AlphariusOmegon108

Wielding his ancient bolter, Sergeant Travier is a drill sergeant if ever there was one. He requires his recruits to perform to perfection, or else. He has not shunned from putting initiates not fully astartes in a pain glove.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/WP_20170321_017_zpstfgpgt4l.jpg

Heavy Weapons Specialist - Lavin Onikron - GREY88

Onikron showed an aptitude for heavy weapons specialisation early on, but his sly nature made him less fit to wield a heavy bolter. Blowing up a renegade Rhino with a full complement of traitors is amongst track record.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/b95e56a2-4176-47f7-bde1-14d59427ade5_zpsg501ubcj.jpg

Comms Specialist - Genart Faskrim disease

A comms specialist, Faskrim acts as spotter for his gang-brother Lavin. The two are inseparable, which is both a blessing and a curse to the squad. The master of recruits is considering whether to field them in the same squad when they pass the initiation trials.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/WP_20170321_011_zpsnxpmmya5.jpg

Battle Brother - Valik Akhedes Argent aquila

Brother Akhedes is a man-of-the-line. He is dedicated, motivated, and his wit are a great source of squad morale.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d185/mkruijff/Imperial%20Fists/WP_20170321_008_zpsls1sy5hg.jpg

Battle Brother - Wern Harzug Thrillhouse

A thrill-seeker, Brother Harzog can always be relied upon to volunteer for single-man operations.
